Why doesn't Hamburg, Germany have trams? | #Tramburg
Hamburg is the largest German city to lack trams!
And that's actually a really odd thing. Frankfurt, Berlin, Cologne, Bremen - all of these places have robust tram networks.
However, Hamburg did once have a huge tram network - until it all closed down in 1978.
So what happened? Why did it happen? And what's the potential future of trams in Hamburg?
Let's cover it today, as we get into the ins, out, and desire to make Tramburg a reality again!

And we have always a Schienenersatzverkehr and it sucks...
What is it this time, 5 weeks of construction?
longest... for now ! the Paris line 15 should form a circular line of 75km around Paris with the first segment delivered next year, and the full line in 2031
Moskau Ringlinie ist länger - 57,5 km.
It's only Europe.
Hahaha and for real it’s the best one. Like in comparison to the s1 the u1 is almost never delayed 😂
Big note for americans: A lot of Americans have german immigrant ancestry. If your parents, grandparents or great-grandparents had german citizenship you automatically qualify for citizenship aswell.
This absolutely! And not just Americans - anyone with proveable German linkeage that goes back even a few generations. My husband, for example, qualifies under this
Assmanshausen is just a normal Name bruh… there isn’t something Dirty in it
It's more so dirty for the Englosh speakers. For something funny in German, may I suggest Darmstadt-Wixhausen?
@ what is about geilnau, kotzdorf and others ??
While i studied i lived at one end. Happened way ro often that i got drunk, fell asleep and woke up at the wrong end of the line -.-
Was für ein dirty Name oida das ist deutsch und hat nichts mit euren englischen Wörtern zu tun ihr pfeifen
Feucht, Leck, Busenbach. Alles lustiger als Assmannshausen das wie das Deutsche Ass betont wird. Also Ace, die Spielkarte. Hat nix mit dem Hintern zu tun.
Und was ist mit der Stadt in Österreich, die früher Fucking hieß?
@TFTSB es gibt noch so viele Beispiele 😁
With Junkies Smoking Crack in it as soon as you come near central station
Yo, thats the line I take to uni
Ich fahre da immer dran vorbei
Deutschland Hamburg beste stadt in Deutschland
Hope you get cured for your mental illness soon buddy
The A line in Los Angeles is 80km long.
Lol yesterday i had a dream of Hamburg and why they don't have trams. And now tris video is in my suggestion
Maybe it was meant to be lol
Having spent the past 15 years working in an office on the Stresemannstrasse, that would be soooo much improved by putting the tram back in. But I think the one thing that needs to be done first is to complete an Autobahn-Ring (ish), by improving the north-side connection between the A7 and the A1 (leading the A24). Too many lorries think they need to drive straight through the City rather than drive south through the Tunnel to the Horster Dreieck.
Ohlstedt REPRESENT 😎😎😎
A characteristic feature of Hamburg is that every line crosses the main station and every new line will also cross the main station. Unfortunately, a ring is missing and the old, dirty central station has the highest passenger volume in Germany.
Highest volume of degenerates as well. 😂
Well, there is the U3 Ring Line, but when that was built, Hamburg was a lot smaller. What you are referring to is presumably an outer ring line connecting e.g. Wedel, Pinneberg, Norderstedt, Ahrensburg and Barsbüttel
its great for travel I use it very often to go to the city
Norderstedt🎉🎉
Frequent is not quite the case here on the S2. And There's another S-Bahn Line from Lindau via Bregenz to Romanshorn in the Region, which also serves 3 countries.
Perhaps more commuter esque than traditionally S Bahn perhaps
@TFTSB Not really, the whole line is a single track and no one wants to invest into it. There are long distance trains every two hours as well as several freight trains taking up basically all the capacity. The line is operated by the Austrian ÖBB, and they have enough capacity for these trains. Because Lichtenstein isn't willing to pay to upgrade the line to make more frequent SBahn service possible, they don't really care that much about Liechtenstein's commuters and travellers. There are several bus lines, operating at quite high frequencies by Liechtenstein, which are quite well used. The Swiss and Austrian people don't really travel to Liechtenstein that often, so the Long Distance Trains are usually good enough to get between these countries. It would of course make sense to add a second track partially to make train crossings possible, but neither of the three country's interest is big enough to do that. Also, there was a referendum about the SBahn project FLACH (First Letters of the Countries) which was rejected.
@@jakobwinder3687 Is that what I've heard called "The S-Bahn Liechtenstein Project"?
@@TFTSB I think so. Or is it maybe an adaptation of the project?
If you wanna know more about public transport or especially plans for a new tram network in Hamburg leave me a mail address where I can send you some stuff. Oh and I live also in Stade too, so I hate the new S5 as well 😬
Absolutely! I actually have an official email - jamie@stuffweplay.com
As both Ends are in Schleswig Holstein, I don't know if it really is that suprising. It also is the slowest way to get from volksdorf to norderstedt, aside from walking, because of it snaking nature. The whole route is just weird, as it seems to want to take any station it can find.
I work at the Hamburger Hochbahn, and we still have some of the infrastructure of the Straßenbahn. Alltough because of historical means, it could still be partially be used. I also believe, we still have a frw wagons.
Wait wha, y'all still have a few wagens at the Hochbahn? I had no idea!
Da ist mein Herz
Munichs U6 line is quite long as well. It goes all the way from Garching, a town to North of the City to großhadern which way down in the Southwest.
I use this train every day it's so fun now to see it here🤣
I use it nearly every week. It didn't even cross my mind it might be the longest in Europe
My husband and I are leaving for ireland, i can get irish citizenship through decent, and he can get his citizenship after being a resident for 1 year.
Citizenship by descent is great if you can get it! My husband also qualifies for that here in Germany
YAS NORDERSTEDT MITTE
U1 ultras Langenhorn Nord! >_<
Jo im high sitting in my bed in Hamburg Germany. And suddenly I get a random ass short about this fcking railway. Wtf
A few more fun facts: - this train was used in the regular bases till 2021 - The very first S-Bahn had also a 3rd class - Speaking of 1. class/2. class one of the reason why there are no more is due to the hefty increase of the passengers
Yeah the S bahn Hamburg is a bit odd at times
But to Dodenhof in Ottersberg you can only drive with the Car or Bus
Ohlstedt is my stop i always enter there. damn 😂❤
u and me buddy ... 😂
Ich verlasse immer bei Hoisbüttel
I visited San Francisco over the summer, and the transit amazed me. BART is really fast, the streetcars and cable cars are fun to ride, and MUNI connects a lot of the city.
It's honestly a network I really appreciate, even after traveling all over
Nah einfach wohnort😂
Yes Berlin and the u7 ist the longes line
Rear boarding is sadly only common in bigger German cities…it always infuriates me so much when everyone has to board in the front
@@leDespicable Me too! It's just such an outdated requirement
The biggest subway line is in Bitterfeld 749 km
Ich bin aühanburger 😂😊
Norderstedt mitte mentioned yay
Yeah and its always late.
Lol einfach meine Heimatstadt
