Bhurshing Mahadev (Or Bhureshwar Mahadev) temple is a spectacular temple built over a cliff in remembrance of local deity Bhur Singh and his sister Dahi Devi . The temple is situated in District Sirmaur of Himachal Pradesh at an elevation of 1870 meters above the sea level. There is something spiritual and divine about this place which you are bound to feel when you reach there. Except during the fair, the place has very less footfall throughout the year. The peace and serenity of this enchanting place is soul soothing.

The temple offers breathtaking view of Ghinni-Ghaad valley on the south side and churdhar peak range on the north side.
It is believed that Lord Shiva watched historic Mahabharata war from here.
This is the story of Bhur Singh and his sister Dehi Devi who belonged to a brahmin family in Panwa village. They were also known as Bhats who would perform various rituals such as invoking of God (Devta lagna). To the ill fate , the mother of Bhur singh died and his father re-married. The stepmother was harsh on Bhur Singh and his sister in the absence of their father from home. Once she sent Bhur Singh to graze cattles in forest and when he returned one calf was missing.So she punished him and said that he can enter the house only when he bring back the missing calf. Later at night when his father came to house to notice that his son Bhur singh has not arrived yet , he went to forest. And he found that his son Along with the calf were laying dead on the rock where the shrine exists today.
It is believed that if your coin throw sticks to the rock. You have a wish.
Later his sister Dehi Devi , who was arranged to get married to a one eyed man ( Kaana Kdo) committed suicide in mortification. Her doli happened to pass through the rock where Bhur Singh lay dead. She was deeply stricken with grief and she threw herself from doli and jumped from the top of the cliff.
Currently both are worshipped at Bhurshing temple (Bhureshwar mahadev temple ). And there is a river “Dahi Nadi” named after Dehi devi which is believed to originate from the point she landed after jumping off the cliff. Dahi river is a tributary of Ghaghar river. There are two poojari’s from Bhat family one each for Bhur singh and Dehi Devi.Every year a fair is organised here on 11th day (Ekadashi) after Diwali. People offer milk and ghee throughout the day. Later at night after dancing alone in the temple, the poojari of Dehi Devi jump onto a sloppy rock (on the edge of cliff ) .Some even claim that he sticks to the rock due to milk and ghee offered throughout that day by devotees.

HOW TO REACH BHURESHWAR MAHADEV TEMPLE :
It is situated on a 2-3km diversion road from Shimla - Dehradun State Highway (SH 2). The diversion is at Panwa which is around 8 KM from Sarahan (towards Solan) and 7Km from Naina Tikker (towards Dehradun). Click here to see on google maps. Coming from Chandigarh/Delhi side, you can reach Kumarhatti (on Chandigarh- Shimla route) and then take right towards Dehradun. From Panwa once can also do a short trek of 2KM to temple amidst pine trees and dense forest on well paved path.

There is no much eatery options available at temple (Just one tea and snacks shop - SHARMA DHABHA) and neither any accommodation, but we did camping at the Sharma Dhaba's Terrace after taking permission of the owner Vishal Sharma.
