8 Days, 1 Typhoon, and Lots of Lemurs: A Japan Adventure Vlog
Summiting Mount Fuji - th-cam.com/video/9JLnEJJc7vM/w-d-xo.html
There are so many awesome things to do in Japan, and we had such a fantastic time last year, we knew we would be back at some point. We managed to make it happen this year somewhat last minute, when I realized we would have the opportunity to attempt to summit Mount Fuji. While Mount Fuji was my main goal for our trip to Japan, we managed to fit in a lot of other exciting things (like a Harry Potter tour in Tokyo and petting capybaras in Yokohama) as well. Below is our itinerary for 8 days in Japan:
Day 1 - Warner Bros Studio Tour - The Making of Harry Potter in Tokyo
Day 2 - Tokyo Disneyland
Day 3 - Tokyo DisneySea
Day 4 - Travel to the Fuji 5 Lakes Area, Explore Fuji-Q Highland, and the Fujiyama Tower
Day 5 - Summit Mount Fuji (in a typhoon)
Day 6 - Attempt to make it to Osaka, make it as far as Yokohama before the Shinkansens are shut down
Day 7 - Yokohama World Porters and Round 1 Arcade
Day 8 - Tokyo Joypolis and 2 animal cafes with ring-tailed lemurs, capybaras, and more

A Week in Japan - th-cam.com/video/kI1u2rg7vYs/w-d-xo.html After my first trip to Japan last year, I knew I would be back at some point to attempt to summit Mount Fuji. “Some point” fortunately was able to happen this year, when I realized somewhat last minute we would be able to fit in traveling to Japan while it was still climbing season, and Mount Fuji was still snowless. The Southeast is a well known for it’s variety of whitewater rivers, and the opportunities they provide for kayakers, canoers, rafters, and paddle boarders. One option is on the Broad River in Georgia, which is what I...

I bought this bag in a size Large as I'm just over 6ft and I have the same issue as you with the bag sitting too low when fully loaded, I'm going to order size small because I noticed medium drops too low for you, I think I'll have the same issue with the mediums well. Super useful video as you've helped me find the correct size, thank you. subbed.
Glad I could help! Let me know how the small works out for you, and thank you!
nice video! question, Do you hike down the same trail you came up? I saw some videos where they mention a different descending trail to avoid congestion. if so is it rocky going down? im climbing in july and was wondering about the difficulty on the rocky parts.
Thanks! The Yoshida Trail does have a different decent trail that avoids the technical rocky sections. The descent is wide double track, but it is a bit loose in some places.
Nice to see that you're living a very good life!👍
@@GoodBoyChevy I certainly try!
I enjoyed following your climb and commentary from the comfort of my chair. I climbed Fuji san at night back in 1996 from the Fujinomiya trail and luckily we had good weather although the temperature severely dropped at night. The view of the sunrise and the five lakes from the summit was awesome and have been lodged deep into my brain for all these years. I'm in my mid 60s now and my mountain climbing days are behind me now, but the spirit of Fuji san will remain in my heart forever. I hope that you can return to Japan again and experience climbing Mt.Fuji during better weather someday. Cheers and happy new year.🗻
@@GoodBoyChevy I bet that sunrise was amazing! Happy new year 🎉
Great video. I hope to climb Fuji in 2025.
Thank you, and good luck to you!
Wow! Impressive gear room...very organized!
Thanks! You should see it after I get home from a camping trip 😅
I'm only getting audio coming through in my left ear on my headphones
@@Lewini Oh, thanks for letting me know!
I own the Men's version of this backpack...it's one of the most all-around finest Daypacks I have ever owned. It is my "go-to" hiking Daypack. It's true that the Scree 32 is on the larger range of capacity for a Daypack...it shines by being a Daypack, but also large enough that if you had to make a planned, or unplanned, overnight camp...there is room in the pack to add in some extra gear for that. I do agree it may not afford enough room for a dead of winter overnight set of gear...but Spring, Summer, Autumn - no problem. Have you had a look at the Mystery Ranch Catalyst 26-liter? It is more streamlined on the exterior though, but an awesome Daypack for Urban / Travel / EDC...I also own one of those and that will be my intended use for it. Once I discovered Mystery Ranch, I never purchased a backpack from anyone else. The Scree 33 WAS re-designed catering more specifically to the Alpine climbing community, so the Scree 33 is no longer the great overall Daypack that the Scree 32 was. You can still find some Scree 32 packs on the 3rd party market, often discounted. Most all of my Mystery Ranch backpacks I was able to purchase 20% - 25% discounted.
@@YTusercomment Thanks for the info, I haven't tried the Catalyst 26. I ended up getting a Black Diamond Distance 22 and am pretty happy with it.
Cool video thanks. The most critical thing about tying a kayak to the roof of a car is bow and stern tie. The sides don't even matter. To tie where there is no tie point, tie a big knot in the rope and capture this by closing the hatch or the trunk lid. A better way would be to tie a knot around something like a stick that won't pull out. Trail runners would be good. When we were doing dinghy 'ops' in the Bahamas I brought along my hiking shoes (bigger trail runners). I got some flak because "Everyone just wears flip flops.' But after a few more involved hikes. Bring a small towel so you can dry off your feet or brush the sand off. I just used my socks. Keep them in a dry bag or a trash bag and your toes will be happy. And never forget to put sunscreen on the tops of your feet. For fears heights, spiders etc... I find learning really helps. I learned all about black widows and stopped jerking around. For heights remember Three Points of Contact. Once I learned to always make sure I had that covered I felt a lot better. In Japan I was working my way along the Dikiretto in Kamakochi. I took a photo between my legs but it really didn't capture the several hundred feet below my butt. When I was back at my teaching job in Los Angeles I would look up at the 25 story building next to the school yard and laugh. No way would I lean off the top of that, except that's exactly what I was doing in Japan. Except much higher. And of course climbing down is always more dangerous.
Thank you! Excellent point about the climb down being more dangerous, that's actually why I decided to not go all the way to the top. I felt relatively confident I could get up there just fine, it was coming back down that I was concerned about.
Sandals? You hike that terrain in sandals? We put our hiking boots in plastic bags. Made the hike way easier.
I'm pretty comfortable hiking mildly technical terrain in sandals, but not usually this lol. Hindsight being 20/20 I should've thrown my trail runners in a dry bag.
That was a tough climb in sandals, good job.dont worry about overcoming ya fear of heights, just control it.
Thank you, and good advice!
Nice video! I’m doing the same thing this upcoming winter; oh and you should wear sunglasses, so much UV reflection from the snow

We hiked Mt. Lyn Lowry up to the cross in July. I’m wondering how the area faired in the flooding? How about Waynesville and Sylva?
I'm not sure about that Waterrock Knob/Mount Lyn Lowry area, since the Parkway's been closed I haven't seen too much about how it's doing. I believe both Waynesville and Sylva were hit relatively hard unfortunately.

How long did it take you to complete the right loop? I'll be riding this at the end of Sep.
About 4 hours including breaks
Back in the mid 1980s I went fly fishing on Hazel Creek with friends, hiking miles up along it. On the 3rd day I walked back to Proctor to meet some other fisherman who were going to join us so I could lead them back to where the rest of us were camped. While waiting for them to arrive, a forest service pontoon boat pulled up with a couple in their mid 50's and one in their 80's. The older couple were the parents of the younger woman and had lived in Proctor before it was flooded. The older lady took me on a short walk around and pointed out things you'd never notice on your own. Such as where the town's baseball field had been. She pointed out how all the trees where the field once was were much smaller in diameter then the rest of the woods, obviously because there hadn't been any trees when they played ball there. She pointed out where the first base dugout had been, and said that's where her husband had proposed to her. :-) It was obviously a very memorable time for me!
Wow, what a great story!
Ya got to go….its amazing. Follow your dreams😊
