it's been 3 videos and like 6 hours of gameplay and i've yet to be convinced as to why any of the characters like eachother at all. every dialogue between them is either passive-agressive banter or a monologue about how they have vitiligo and how that's their whole character. and yet every other scene in this game you have to sit down with them and have them talk to you about their trauma without first doing the whole part where you have to actually write them so you can care about them in the first place. truly feels like a game written by narcissists.

I think that a visual novel play through would be much less unbearable. Today i realized that the trash talk is what is carrying this garbage.

I have mostly good memories of this game... but this game is, 14 some years later, very half-baked and kinda cringe to be honest. It's Silent Hill by way of a YA novel and it's tracking of the player's psychology is a decade behind Silent Hill 2 which kept all its tracking hidden from you and abstract. The ideas are the same, but SH2's a considerably less arbitrary and a lot more natural. The technical details hold up really well, lots of high resolution textures on the Wii and neat shader effects contribute to it's strictly PG-13 atmosphere, and that may sound like an insult but it's frankly not. I kind of like the restrained attitude the game has, but a lack of creativity hampers the more intense moments, especially because like every other game that claims to be tailored to you (oooooh~ oooh!~) it's like five swapped around assets and 2 or 3 slightly altered endings some of which just contradict everything you saw for the last 10 hours.

Very on brand for Konami to have the only SH game made after The Room that carries the spirit of the originals being made to the fucking Wii. At least they ported it to the PS2.
