Hey Hey What Can I Do Free Mandolin Lesson
Thank you!
Why not 8 string? Im confused?
@@pablo6305 I use the low C for lower chord voicings, 5 string chords, bass lines and reading cello scores.
Thanks for your terrific lesson
Glad someone is digging these. more coming
Thank you for this very helpful lesson!
I get the first three notes that you explained, and this might sound like a stupid question: Are the "second" phrases the same thing in different locations, or are you (a) playing them in a different location? and (b) different order? I'm kind of new to the mandolin and my ear doesn't pick things up very quickly. Thank you.
Wow this great
thank you! please keep these coming, I love them! some of the best and only dead/mandolin stuff around :)
Thank you.
thank you!
Very cool! thx for sharing
Awesome riffing before you get going, and great tone. There are a few things that i think are different as ive been learning this to cover it, but i dont want to be rude. Oh well, take no offense, but the first double stop is (i think) actually an octave. Open a with the fifth fret a. And some of the strums just hit single notes. So i have (A-a) (a) (A-a) - (A) (e) (A-e) - then the rest the same. As for the chord voicings, i am possibly hearing a high a in the F#m voicing and def think i hear a C# in the A chord. I like your way better, frankly, and may do it that way myself, but i have lowest to highest (C# f# C# a) (A E C# e) (A D A F#) (A E C# A) on the chords. I could be wrong on one of those, or I'm hearing overtones, or maybe theres two mandos? But i am def picking up the some of those notes from very close listening on headphones at slowed down speeds. I can hear the low As on the A chord and the middle C#... It makes it harder to play though, and less open sounding.

This is wonderful. Thank you! 🙏
could you please post some lessons on watchhouse songs?
Are you still with yarn? I saw you guys when you opened for Railroad Earth in Pennsylvania
No. I am currently a member of Dangermuffin. Our new record is coming out soon. It is a smoker.
This video just made my day! Thanks!
Cool. Keep an eye out for more.
I'm a beginner and I can't figure out your A and E(5) chords. What frets are you playing on those two cords? Sorry for the basic question but when I play it, it just doesn't sound quite right.
The A Chord is a bar shape G (2) D (2) A (4) E (5) the E Chords also utilizes a bar G (4) D (2) A (2) E (4) I may have used an open A G (6) D (2) A (0) E (0). Hope this helps
Thank you so much my friend. Great lesson.
One of the coolest mando lessons I’ve come across. I’m a guitar, banjo player picking up the mando.
Thanks brother
Awesome lesson, love Levon and love your mandolin!
A flat please!
damn good player thanks
Stella Blue is one of my daughters names, this is beautiful!!!
Thanks so much! Joined a led zep tribute band and I offered to learn this on the mandolin...granted, I do not know how to play a mando!! With lots of practice I hope to get it.
This is amazing. This is also one of the only videos I can find of someone playing an electric five string. I've read a lot of people saying its odd to try and incorporate the C string into playing. Do you feel that way?
There may be a learning curve but i think it is worth it. If you play other stringed instruments like tenor banjo or guitar it may make it easier. I love having access to the bass notes.
Great lesson. Wondering if you know of any good source for Dead mandolin tabs? Does not appear anything one thing out there (e.g., 1/2 Step, Help on the Way, Playin, TLEO, etc). Thanks.
Awesome. Thanks Andrew!
I want that first 2 licks before you said let's get going.... this kicked some serious ass....
Could you do Rosalie Mcfall? From The Dead?
wow!
Thanks for this video! I’ve been playing mandolin since February, mostly practicing just fiddle tunes. So it’s nice to branch out into something different. And what a song!
This tune is epic. Hope you are still picking!
@@andrewhendryx I most certainly am, Andrew! Thanks for your vids on Sugar Mag and (especially) China Cat Sunflower too. Makes me so happy to be able to pick along to the Dead tunes I love
Good job dude. Thanks!
Thank you so much!!!
It be nice if you showed how to play those damn chords!
this is helpful-ty much
Txs!
This is as good as a lesson gets. Many many many thanks.
where's the rest? gimme some verse / chorus examples. great video
Thanks for another awesome lesson Andrew. Do you think you could do a lesson on either Wharf Rat or Little Wing sometime? I've seen some really cool mando covers of them, but never a good explanation.
Do you do online lessons anywhere? Im loving this and your blues video. Ive done some of the artistworks and mandosecret lessons but i enjoy your style more.
Yes. I teach online lessons from my home studio. You can email me at andrewhendryxmusic@gmail.com
Love the vids man! Could you do a video for jackaroe by chance?
Sure. Great song. I’ll jam a long with a few versions and see what I come up with.
@@andrewhendryx awesome man looking forward to it
Thanks for the tutorials!
Can you post another video of a dead arrangement on the electric mando where you’re just playing sometime? I’ve watched your Stella blue so many times
Absolutely.
Awesome to see a new video! I really loved your lessons!
Thanks for the positive feedback. The video I posted sounded like I was playing my Collings through a Marshall amp so I reloaded it. Must have been a glitch. Hope this sounds better - Hendryx. ^To make an A Sus chord (G) 2 (D) 2 (A)5 (E)5
Thank you
Thanks for watching
This is the good shit dude! Nice mandolin!
Hi that was amazing! What kind of mandolin is that it sounds incredible. Did you use any guitar effects?
Thanks. It is a Steve Ryder 5 String electric mandolin. I am playing through a Polytone Mini Brute amp. It is a very flat sounding "jazz" amp. The delay is a a green Line 6 DL4 Delay pedal with a long delay time.
Great lesson, I was looking for the Band version with mandolin, which I prefer over Springsteen’s version.
I've seen Springsteen 36 times and the Band never - but Levon owned this. (In the slangy sense, not the legal sense).
Hey Andrew, your videos have been amazingly helpful. How would you feel about doing a Wharf Rat tutorial?
Going to finally get to this!
