Schaller, who makes the original Floyd in their German factory, makes this own Lockmeister Tremolo. It can be ordered with like 5 different nut radiuses and 4 different bridge radiuses and different trem block sizes. Compound radius owners rejoice. But it’s spendy $$$ From what I have found Floyd’s all come 10” radius nut and 12” radius bridge. The Gotoh 1996 is 15.74” nut radius (400 mm) and 13.779” bridge radius (350 mm) Them metric manufacturing guys. lol. Seems weird but that’s what they list on their site. Almost makes me think they listed them backwards.
Found one for $ 600
I have a box of 80s Floyd nuts. OP isn't saying a thing about slot height differences of old 1980s, for example,Schaller R3 vs R4 vs Jackson R43 etc. They are all wildly inconsistent. By not mentioning any of this, this video is pretty worthless.
Great!
Are you selling this guitar? Im keen to purchase one
Im looking to buy this guitar. You selling?
Do you still have this guitar? Im looking to buy it
do you have a link to a picture of the excat bandit 112 that your using ? sounds killer
I was using a bugera lunchbox head back then. I dont remember exactly what model but it was boosted and had a eq in the loop.
sounds very cool , what cab are you using ?
1x12 with ev12l speaker
Why the Korean Title dude?
Sounds great dude! That amp is so versatile and killer!
That amp really impressed me
Looks and sounds great
does the kahler feel closer to a hard tail than a floyd rose ?
Yes
Which is better between this and black winter?
Personally I prefer the bw
Crappy)
Great job I'm waiting for my crackle paint to come in to get started on my guitar how long did you wait for clear coat to dry before you started sanding?
Kahlers are smooth. After playing on my Jeff Hanneman guitar it's very difficult to go back to the Floyd. Especially the easy string changes and the fact that I can just turn a screw and turn it into a fixed bridge.
That's a great way to show people how to swap a magnet incorrectly.
Do a video on it then. You retards are funny copied paf Gibson pups for how long and still sound like ass lmfao
@@cappy781...he did do a video on it. It's quick, concise, and also shows how backwards assed your way of doing it is th-cam.com/video/TpCGtc0fmuA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MfVpPi8fq_AhM6Hi
@@cappy781 YOu said to do a video. I did a video and posted it here. Why did you delete it?
I didn't delete anything dude. I really dont care about guitar shit anymore I jusr play and do bullshit stuff for a few friends
@@cappy781 Funny, since my reply with link doesn't seem to be there any more. But 25 years of manufacturing dozens of pickups on a daily basis, I'm pretty sure I know ho w magnets work. So here, I'll go ahead and post it again. th-cam.com/video/TpCGtc0fmuA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ygtL5aTfAWVNTeqi
Do you even realize that you're flipping the magnet out of phase when you have them connected to each other? They should NOT connect together, yet your video is instructing people to do so? If you are swapping magnets, and don't want them out of phase with each other, they should repel each other when you put one on top of the other. Opposites attract 🤦 ps .. You also don't need to remove the tape at all. After loosening the screws, just use needle nose pliers and pull the magnet out from the exposed side
I know what the fuck im doing
@@cappy781 ... Go back and re-watch your own video. You either don't understand polarity, or can't admit that you screwed up.
On a compound radius, wouldn't the arc continue to flatten with distance from the nut. If so, on a guitar with a 12"-16" neck radius, the bridge would be around 18".
Could you share the circuit diagram of your guitar pls? it would help me a lot.
Hey man I’ve experimented with some tubes after watching your video and talking to some guitar shops I had a couple questions. I have a tungsol 12ax7 in v1 electro harmonix 12au7 in v2 (recommended by a shop) and sovtek 5751 v3. I was told to go from lowest gain tubes in v1-2 but found the sovtek to not really make a difference. I did find the crunch channel to be quieter, the rhythm seems normal. I’m assuming something is interlaced somehow. Do you have similar issues? I’m liking the tone I have right now but might switch the tungsol with the electro. Power tubes not changed (jjel84)
Power tubes made a big difference when i had that amp. Gold lion power tubes really woke up the sound
@@cappy781 sweet, ya I’m planning on getting them and looking into rebiasing
Hey I know this video is 5 years old, but what’s your technique for putting in the Floyd posts? I drilled out for the big Gotoh posts and used a brass pin and an arbor press and cracked the body. Filled with wood glue and it’s a cheap body so I don’t really care, but would appreciate some tips for next time.
Unfortunately that shit can happen dude. I always try to stay away from those gotoh posts because they are huge. Schaller posts is what i did 90% of the time. I used a dril with a guide to keep the post holes straight and literally tapped them in with a brass hammer. If the holes you drilled are to tight that can cause the cracking also. You live and learn lol. I have done it also
When this guitar is fully upgraded (like the one in the video), can it rival some 2, 000 dollar-ish guitars?
I really liked the Extreme versions Pablo did. Especially the Extreme Warrior with the cutout sharfin inlays. I will own one of those some day.
That was one of the best guitars ive ever played.
@@cappy781 Well, I now own it. A mini Pablo Santana Extreme Warrior in quicksilver. It's so much fun to play. Now on the lookout for the full sized one or the Extreme Death Angel.
Nice build...I totally get what you're saying about those guys being "nazis"...lmao
I have a Mullard 12Ax7 Should I pop it in?
Try it in the v1 socket
Cappy you play that thing just like George
Great video very informative. Please put more of them out there.
I think my tech matched the 10" radius of the nut, instead of the flatter part of the upper end of the neck, which is a 16". He did shim the a and b strings. It feels like the d and g strings are a little higher off the board than the rest of the strings. I am still trying to figure out what exactly is going on and how to fix it. If I get the E strings at the correct height, the D and G feel a little too high. Do I shim the E strings? That is a badass BC Rich.
Take all the shims off the floyd and start over. Usually i use 2 shims on the e strings 1 shim on the a/b strings. After you shim you probably going to have to adjust the string height and intonation a touch
If your fretboard has a compound radius then your saddle radius should be flatter by about almost 4 inches. if you have a 16 at the last fret then you need a about a 20 at the saddles.
I ll give you my zakk wylde les paul for your guitars with kahlers
Yamaha THR10 mk i ?
Yes the first edition of it.
I have to sand the nut bottoms down on almost all floyd locking nuts because the first fret sting action is so high. I just remove the nut, and use an extra course diamond knife sharpening stone. It takes a while, but it's worth it to me. I can't stand high strings at the nut.
Yup its a bitch lol
Do you use pedals here?
No that was the guitar plugged straight into the amp. Wish I kept that amp.
@@cappy781 thank you! Hi gain sound?
Not enough gain for modern metal but it does that hotrod Marshall tone of the 80s really good. I swapped the stock speaker for a greenback and it sounded great.
I’ve heard ppl say this is a super scooped pickup. Do you find it to be? Currently Ive got a JB and a distortion in my guitars but I’m thinking of trying one of these out or going back to the 59/custom.
Its scooped a bit but the low/high is really nice with the custom and custom 5. If you play a lot of palm muted chug stuff the custom is best.
Sick guitar. What locking nut size does it take?
R3
No..low action does not thin tone. My action on Low E is .05 Inches on high E .06 its the lowest of the low and no! it dont thin tone. Also pickup height should be around 1/8th in or .025 on height. This is how you get lowest action possible without buzz! Just saying bro. I own the same exact guitar and setup my high end Mayones Duvell Elite and Kiesel aries 7 the same. Have do so for 26 years. I get it though.. different strokes for different folks. Would have love to see an action ruler on the board plus a straight line on the fretboard to see how straight it was lol
For me personally I pick really hard and I should of explained this. I have customers that have super low action no fret buzz and i play it dosen't sound good customer plays it crushes.
Have you used peavey ultra plus 120?
What kind of cap did you use?
Did you boost the original ts-9?
No boost
It's a really heavy sound. It's the best. What guitar amp did you use?
Not a huge fan of the style, but love what this did to the gain structure itself. Some killer punch. Would love to have heard some more of the crunch channel, with the mids dialed in a bit more. I'm stunned you're getting tones like this out of that head, from a simple tube swap like that. I'm a 70's & 80's classic hard rock guy, and this sounds like it could crush those tones. Well done!
what speaker are you using the stock shitfield ? or a celestion ? im thinking celestion speaker it sounds good man. for sure.
1x12 cab with a greenback
@@cappy781 I replaced my speaker in my EVH iconic with a celestion 70th anniversary G12m and love it. I’ll do the same on my 6505+ and run both amps in mono. Should sound brutal!!! 🤘
Hell yea dude
Running this with a swollen pickle and tones rad
Dont know if your still active but im about to drop my j80c into a guitar and i measured it at 16.05 resistance instead of the purported 13.5 J90c listed as 15.95 I also took the cover off to fit a pickguard and both rows are flat chrome pole, later run after they stoped using adjustable screws. I think i have a transition period pickup. Still using the j80c sticker but the hotter wind. You have any measurements on either?
Im not making videos right now but still playing and fixing guitars. The usa Jackson pickups are completely different from imports. You have a import version. The usa version has a Jackson usa sticker and if you take the cover off the pole/screw pices are black. The imports got slug pices both coils
@cappy781 its the engraved jackson logo and white j80c sticker, 4 screw baseplate. Im only seeing the jackson usa sticker on the model 3-5s. My understanding was the pole peices changed in later runs to fix the airgap caused by the screwheads on the cover. I thought all j50-j80-j90 were usa.
I came with a similar tube result after test several types of tubes, 12ay7 on v3 and 12ax7's, killer tones on both channels
So the type is real!!!
Schaller now has the Lockmeister you can get a nut with 8, 10, 12, 14 or 16 inch radius and 10, 12, 14 or 16 for the bridge.
Yes I ended up with a project that was 10" Radius nut,12" radius Neck and 14" Radius trem bridge. FR is 10" and Gotoh is 14" Both trem and Nut. My assumption was all 12" so I redid the fretboard 12" and switched to a R2 which is 10"....
