Nobu had so much potential, he was easily the toughest physical threat Matt faced and could have been a really interesting character and antagonist even in defenders if they had just done him and the hand justice
I realised that Daredevil has to think that he killed somebody and that somebody is Nobu, what isn't actually true, because like we see later, Stick is the one finishing Nobu for good.
Idk about it paying off. If I remember correctly, Claire said Matt cracked a rib during their fight, something that didn't happen the first time. The suit doesn't protect from punches (unless being struck on the helmet) it's for knives and small caliber rounds.
That’s the only time throughout the entire show that he actually killed someone, yeah I know stick finished him off but Matt full on intended for him to die there and he was obviously under the impression that he was dead
The moment I heard his voice, I knew what was going on, I got soo happy because I really loved him as a villain since episode 9, and when they mentioned inmortality in the Hand earlier in the show, I suspected about him, being an important member of the Hand, would of course have to be inmortal, just like Harold Meachum from the Iron Fist, Nobu is the kind of villain that you just expect the hero to have a good fight against, not straight up beaten up. One thing I also find incredibly badass is the fact that Nobu talks about him leaving scars on Daredevil, when Nobu has a full-body size reminder of how dangerous Daredevil can be.
He literally trains his boxing at the gym his father trained at in several episodes, he only learned a little bit of the other fighting styles from stick and primarily does boxing in his fight scenes, the flashy stuff is kept to a bare minimum mostly to show off that it’s part of daredevils character
Imagine a ninja assassin who kicked your ass, and nearly killed you the first time. So you had to set him on *FIRE* in order to beat him. Only for that motherfucker to come back from the *DEAD* to lay your ass out a second time. So you end up throwing his ass of a roof, but he *STILL* ain't dead yet until stick chops his goddamn head off. In my opinion Nobu was the best bad guy, because he was the only villain daredevil *HAD* to kill in order to defeat him. But he still didn't die. So Murdock needed help from both Elektra and Stick to finish the job. Fisk was good, but he doesn't hold a candle to Nobu Yoshioka. Fuck Alexandra and those other wimps, Nobu *WAS* the Hand.
I think these fight scenes accurately show many of the short comings of season 2 as a whole. After the Punisher arc concluded, the season took a turn for the worse. It wasn’t nearly as bad as the CW shows, but it kind of starting to veer in that direction with a little more goofy and comic booky story lines. And the fight scenes just don’t compare, especially the last rooftop one. It was clear that they tried to go for a “bigger is better” approach, but there are multiple instances where attacks aren’t even remotely close to connecting, and it just looks like the actors are nonsensically flipping and twirling about like it’s a CW show or the Star Wars Prequels. And there are so many ninjas that they could just overpower Electra with ease, but they have to go at her 2 at a time, for “reasons”, while the others just cautiously run at her before moving back like seagulls chasing waves. But regardless Season 3 more than delivered, with a well thought out, serious, and at times painful story that had actual themes and complex characters, and visceral, hard hitting action that looked like people actually trying to injure and kill each other rather than overly choreographed nonsense.
Season 3 does suffer from some phony-looking combat too though. Several clear misses in attacks, especially in the last DD vs Fisk fight. Even the 11 minute prison fight looks distractingly fake at points, at least for me. IMO Season 1 was the only season where the action looked consistently good/decent all throughout.
I guess it’s hard to write ninja story’s. Where they can flesh out the characters and make them feel realistic. Or maybe since the director or someone in charge said something on the lines of: “Asians don’t matter, they’re just there for the fights and then die, you see that in every ninja movie.” Don’t remember the exact words but if that’s the case then that could be one reason as to why the hand arc didn’t really live up to any other arcs.
Actually, in the star wars prequels, though the moves look flashy, their lightsabers are going for the opponent's head, it is rare that we get to see such errors in those movies.
Yep. It's a damn shame. To me the Hand died with Nobu. I didn't understand the Hand's motive in Defenders. And who the hell were those characters. Other than Elektra, most of them weren't even ACTUAL members in the comics. I was hoping to see Typhoid Mary and White Tiger, or Gorgon. But the ones in the show were a fucking joke.
Not in season 3 though, I’m pretty sure the building falling on him made him permanently lose some of his senses, like how he had to take his boots off to feel the vibrations in the ground when he didn’t in previous seasons and how he couldn’t do any of his flashy flips and kicks due to his injuries, he also lost his smell I believe unless he got that back after flushing the dry blood out of his nose I can’t remember off the top of my head
