Shadywoods Back/Front Rig Switcheroo in Moho

Here's the easiest way to switch from back rig to front rig, by doing the good old switcheroo. When Frank disappears behind the sofa I'm switching him from back rig to front rig. I'm *not* doing all of the parts for this scene in one go this is just one of 47 scenes/shots from a 22-minute pilot. I rather first design and rig all characters for the whole episode first, then do almost all backgrounds, then I put the scenes together and animate them, so it's tough to give an estimate for creating one scene and its assets alone. I'd say creating one background takes about 1 day. Character rigging is about 1 day or less for each rig. And animating the whole scene is about one day or less. So this would be - if done in one go - about 5 days of work, which excludes the writing and studio recording work.

  • @kgeetvcartoons5861
    @kgeetvcartoons5861 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When you're animating and you switch from front to back view are you using a switch layer for the bodies? It's a technique I'm about to use. I'm redoing and upgrading my rigs and whole "360's" are a pain in the ass! 😅 Any advice would be helpful. I learn from you by the way. Great tutorials 👌🏽

    • @KilianMuster
      @KilianMuster หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, because that would make the rig just that much heavier and would unnecessarily complicate things and add more layers. It's just easier to have two rigs and set one to invisible. Why carry around the 'baggage' of an extra rig if you use the back rig in the rarest of cases? I also base my back rig on my front rig, by moving layers around and tweaking a few things. So if my front rig substantially gets altered, I will create a new back rig based on a copy of the new front rig. All that seems just more complicated if they're both in a switch layer.

    • @kgeetvcartoons5861
      @kgeetvcartoons5861 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @KilianMuster I was thinking about only using it for animation. Bringing it in only for that, but invisible and visible sounds good also! 👍🏽 Thanks for the response.

    • @KilianMuster
      @KilianMuster หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! The one course that really changed everything and where it clicked for me was this one from Bloopanimation (I think it was on sale and I got it for about 40 bucks or so): www.bloopanimation.com/moho-animation/ It's based on the Smith Micro version of Moho 13 (which kind of got nuked and Lost Marble based their later versions on the Smith Micro version 12.5), but it's still mostly valid and gives you instructions on everything from tracing to rigging, to animating, to head turns by a very professional animator. After doing that course I was able to basically pick up and figure out most of the stuff I saw elsewhere myself.

      @user-od9yb1th5u I usually don’t move chins (my ‘Mossbeard’ character doesn’t either). But if you want to move chins I’d recommend doing that with a smart bone. If you make the chin part of the switch layer for the mouth shapes, it’ll be a lot of work to modify all mouth shapes for a head turn. So better to just stretch the chin with a smart bone as needed.
