Mazda3 Helipad Test / Koni Special Active + EBC Brakes
Mazda3 1.6 2006 driven on an abandoned helipad, testing how the car handles when getting close to the limit of grip.
The car felt stable and predictable at all times, even on the less than ideal surfaces. Compared to the original shock absorbers, there is less roll and pitch and the harsh imperfections of the surface feel less pronounced and the sharp sound and jolts which were present earlier are now not painful at all and they can't upset the car even when close to the limit.
Some of the roll is definitely caused by the tyres, their sidewall is flexing a bit more than ideal.

Nice surroundings but the road is really bad.
Yeah, it's not a road I'd normally drive on, and that's true for most people, the traffic is usually light for obvious reasons. I just wanted to test how the suspension handles it, and the scenery is beautiful.
Roll bars?
Rolllbars are stock, only the dampers were changed.
Thanks for the reply and videos. I’ll b adding these to my Miata NC in a couple weeks.
@@peternadeau9486 Good luck and have fun! The more I drive with this suspension the more I appreciate how it handles our quite bad roads even under extreme circumstances.

You found a very atmospheric abandoned helipad, the perfect spot to put your beloved car to the test! You also showcased amazing driving skills! Keep it up! The brakes performed well too!
what type of springs are used? :)
Stock springs, did not want to lower the car in a country where I can find roads like this.
@@AnneCaitlyn i am thinking about getting Special Actives for my Audi A3 Quattro (2010) here in Sweden, roads are pretty good in summer but pretty harsh in winter with packed snow and ice so I guess this type of shock absorbers would help 😁
@@steifan I think Koni made the Special Actives a bit stiffer than the previous version, the Koni FSD, but they are still more refined and composed over sharp bumps than the stock dampers. The sharp jolts are still audible, but they are not painful inside as before, the car feels a bit more premium now.
@@AnneCaitlyn great, thanks for the info. 👍
@@steifan I uploaded another video where I drive the car a little harder on an abandoned helipad: th-cam.com/video/LuOMIOE3Slk/w-d-xo.html
Probably found the cause, rear brake pads. As soon as I apply the brakes or handbrake a little, the rattle goes away. Leaving this video here, as it might be useful for someone else.
Amazing content! I totally immersed myself in the situation!
Very impressive! 😊👍
Köszönöm 🥹
