American in Thailand
Thailand
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 ต.ค. 2021
I am an American now retired with my wife in the Seka district of Bueng Kan, Thailand. You can check out our entire home build from start to finish. As we head towards our third year in the home, watch all of the outdoor garden and decorations that we are constantly adding. As well as repairs, some travel, and just daily life in Thailand.

It was great to finally visit you guys and see your beautiful home after watching it being built.
Thanks Gary. Thanks for stopping by!
wow its hard to believe it's been 3 years. You both look great and your house and yard still look beautiful! I love the music too! well, I survived another summer in Laguna Beach Ruby's ! now we are slowing down. Glad you and your wife are doing well and you are enjoying your retirement!
Thanks Debbie! When are you planning to stop working?
@@americaninthailand8760 I am not sure. I need to make an appointment with my financial person. I still like parts of the job. working with our team members, and it gives me something to do. Maybe I will do something parttime for awhile and then retire.
Greg, Garden looks great and is filling in nicely. Looks to me that your original concrete pour did not include appropriate expansion joints, which likely helped 5:07 the cracking, although concrete does indeed crack. You could patch the concrete and power wash it to get rid of the black mold. That’s a good cheap option. Stamped concrete is also a good option. We had it done on our driveway in Redondo Beach (with proper expansions joints) and after 13 years no cracks. The one item to consider is that the paint and finish coat they put on top of the stamped concrete will wear away over time. So requires some resealing repainting, which is an added expense. Would love to see the stamped concrete when you are done. I’m sure it will look great! Good luck and on 3 yrs in Thailand. I’m 3 months the into my retirement in Chiang Mai. So far so good!
Thanks Mark. You are correct, no expansion joints done at all. I have noticed living here that if you don`t ask for specific things, they will never mention them to you. I plan on using a bleach solution and getting a power washer later to attack the mold. Spending up to 15,000 USD for the stamped concrete will kill many vacation plans.
@@americaninthailand8760 good luck Greg.
Awesome update and a super cool video, as Always 👌👍😍 (Love the subtle mention of the 💉💉sham and 🙏🙏🙏for this year)
Thanks for noticing that!
@@americaninthailand8760 You bet! 😆👍
Wow, 3 years in Thailand, awesome wife, abeautiful house and garden
Thank you!
Very informative. The question I cannot get answered is the following. I have logged into the SSN Website and seen the projected amounts based on when I apply for benefits. But the thing that caused concerns is the phrase "based on your current continuing earnings projections...." So if I have retired early in my mid 50s, is that amount I see the bare minimum I will receive or will that amount start to shrink as I'm no longer contributing to SS. If it is to shrink, and I'm not returning to work ever again, how do I calculate what that reduction will be, come time I'm eligible to collect? Thanks!
I am fairly certain that amount you see now stops to grow once you stop working, and then stays fixed. But each month after the age of 62 you hold off on taking it, it increases slightly. For me, each month it went up about $15 a month after age 62.

The tree- you can buy it from them and then cut it down, that’s what I did. The stamped concrete will need rubber expansion joints which you don’t have at the min, also add grip sand to the finish or you will be on your ass in no time.
Yes on the tree issue. I was not going to reveal it on that video. But he already has mentioned 4,000 baht. I was shocked it was so low.
Very nice! I really love what you have done with that back yard ...My idea of lower maintenance yet interesting yard!. I was wondering in the end of the video with the google map overhead shot....What is all the greenery back from your property & some across the street? Rubber Trees? Just curious...Thanks & Congratulations it looks like a happy life you have there with your wife
Yes, mostly rubber trees all around us. Rock landscaping is vital here, unless you want to work your ass off all day. Thanks for the nice comments.
Looking good as Usual
Thanks!
Nice job Greg. Jet wash is what you need. A nice stress relieving day every 6 months. 2500 baht instead of 250,000.
I prefer the 250K
Another nice video. Yes, I watched the SS video earlier this year, and I'll be giving you a call in about a year!
You got it!
Looking very good 👍👍👌👌
I appreciate the comments!
Great video Greg! Nice drone footage as well!
Thanks Kenny!
Place loooks great as usual
Thanks Bill!
Must have been that magic puff I had here in this time in Nakhon Sawan (The Heavenly City) about an hour ago that sparked my psychic abilities thinking about you and your channel. I just checked and you magically appear. If you have too much rain please send it my way as before everywhere I travel to the rain stops.
I will do a rain dance. Hope it helps.
What, no comments????
Awesome!
This rocks!
Yep... particularly if the box said "Accessories Included" there were items removed by a previous shopper who had helped themselves and then put the box back on the shelf. Been burned at Home Depot once for that so now check everything before purchase. For most items I buy here in Thailand, though, the store employee will open the box for us to verify all is well before we even head to checkout.
I learned the hard way!
very cool about the "village" for the workers. nice of you to allow for that... also a sense of security for any stored supplies
For sure!
Thanks for the recommendation... just subscribed and looking forward to learning more from your efforts. Best of days for you and yours!
Thanks!
Yummy
One of my favorites!
Looking Good
Thanks!
I love Thai coconut, sweeter and aromatic!

Wow a lot of work goes into having coconut water or shaved coconut!
It is quite the process!
Definitely a Thai staple food
For sure!

Awesome video! 🥥👍👏👏👏👏🥥 It's amazing to learn what you didn't know you wanted to know! 😄
Well crafted comment! 😎
That was a lot of ants!!!!! your garden and all your plants look great!
Thanks Debbie!
Where is all this rain everyone is talking about? Everywhere I have traveled as soon as I show up the rain stops. Finally saw rain again a few days ago for about two hours. If anyone would like my services pay my way and the rain will stop. NO JOKING ! I want rain! No more bird invasions lately? My biggest pest ants.
Two of the birds hit the windows and died. I think they were the two main nesters.
@@americaninthailand8760 Has your wife ever watched The Birds -Hitchcock ?

Thanks for the visit!
As usual place looks great !
Thanks!😎
Knee-high by the fourth of July farmers used to say about corn. Garden looks great, wish we had more rain in Chonburi, but have had some . Had more ant bites than scorpions, bees, or wasps growing up in AZ,. I don't like any ants to this day. Thanks for the update.
Thanks for the comments!
After a few years, it will be covered by trees!
Help block the sun!
Good work
Thank you!
Birds can be annoying sometimes.
Very true.
I have not signed up yet but I will. that was good information you talked about.
Great!
Was not aware of the "Proof of Life" form, but now I know. Thanks!
I sent you the form.
Pesky birds 🙄 Love the Coooool Google Earth! 👏👍
Thanks! My first try with that!
Great info. And yes, the SSA.gov site is awesome. Have had my account there for a few years and have ran various scenarios. I will be applying as I'm in the process of moving. I have yet to check and see if I can start the process early with a later effectivity date. Much like my employer requires me to start the process for retirement from the company 3-6 months before my retirement date. Also curious as to what questions they ask about prior marriage of over 10 years. I am divorced and she is now deceased.
I like your shirt!! I have several just like it! I hope there will still be money when I take may social security which could be in a few years as I am a few years after you. Thank for the info on social security sounds like a process!! we have been crazy busy at work Summer is here!
Have you signed up in the Social Security website to see what your benefits will be?
I filed at age sixty two because I was more or less already living here and really worried about not taking advantage of it early besides thankfully most of my income comes from Alaska where I worked for the state government. I have been keeping a budget now over forty years and everything is still on paper. You would be shocked how much you can save from having a budget of sorts. It sounds like I got lucky.
No kidding! When you actually see what your money is doing all the time, you get very protective of it.
I applied online when I hit 62 , did it three months in advance no phone call nothing ... I just got my Im alive form it comes around this time every year. I mailed it back and made a copy . You should not have those problems filing for whats due you ...
No phone call? Well looks like they added that later.
@@americaninthailand8760 no never spoke with anyone . Just filled out the information online and waited . I started 3 months before Im thinking . Check came right on time .
Wow that's a lot of rain!!
And it only just started!
Fantastic video!
Thanks. A very short one!
