NORTH WOODS WALKS
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 ส.ค. 2014
After writing for 20 years about the natural (and hidden) wonders of Northern Maine in my popular guidebook, North Woods Walks, now I'm adding visuals to encourage everyone to get out and find their very own Happy Trail.
THE TRAILS OF MONT BE`LANGER
O...M...G...
I think my laptop hates me. But somebody up higher loves me a bit more and provided a MAJOR assist in getting this particular viddy out. Trust me; this should have come out a month ago, but everything that could go wrong...y'know?
Now that that's out of the way-I wasted no time in using my passport, and Quebec's Mont Be`langer was Number One on my list.
An awesome trip! You gotta get out there. There's several trails, one of which went right on the border, within feet of Amy and I when we bushwhacked Slidedown Mt.
But there will be a return visit, as my friend didn't get to see these Canadian sights as up close as I. The Slidedown Saga WILL return again, SUMMER 2025.
Until then . . .
Enjoy!

Gulf Hagas' Jaw-dropping Jaws
มุมมอง 5414 วันที่ผ่านมา
There's some jaws on that shark! Almost as deadly as the Jaws in Gulf Hagas, I reckon. It is (almost) the narrowest and gnarliest section of the gorge. At least, that's what they say. As long as I didn't do anything dumb, i.e., get waaay too close to the cliff edge, my worst enemy would be wet rocks. There were tons of them on that slippery day, so I was thankful for both my trekking poles. Had...
The Backdoor to Rainbow
มุมมอง 8321 วันที่ผ่านมา
A dog, a stream, and a rainbow. And a lean-to! I wanted a picture of Rainbow Lean-to with the stream in the foreground. I think everyone does; Rainbow is quite likely the most photogenic shelter on the entire Appalachian Trail, and has been that way for decades. Sadly, Maine has been in a bit of a drought in 2024, and while the shelter was its usual self, the stream left a bit to be desired, ph...

Traveler Pt. 1
มุมมอง 42หลายเดือนก่อน
With a total elevation gain of 3,700 feet, only 400 feet less than a climb of Katahdin, you could definitely say The Traveler is one whopper of a trail. It was so big, I had to cut it in half, and what remained I still had to trim down. Don't fret: Traveler Pt. 2 is coming soon. Enjoy! Kineo Kid
MOOSEHEAD'S BURNT JACKET...NO MORE?
มุมมอง 387หลายเดือนก่อน
Hey all: A large landowner on Burnt Jacket Mountain-the one in Beaver Cove, Maine-is taking steps to close all three trails on the mountain. That means the Blue Trail, the Green Trail, and the Red Trail, will be closed down permanently. In this video I talk about what, where & why. And plead with you all to help in any way you can. Enjoy! Not all trails are created equal...nor all hikers. My journey could have taken a far more drastic turn were it not for an intervention of sorts. The woods and its trails helped, but so did-do-the many travelers along my way. Enjoy! Kineo Kid
Will climbing Jackman's Slidedown Mountain be the death of me?
มุมมอง 1372 หลายเดือนก่อน
At last...Slidedown Mountain. My first view of Slidedown Mt. was from Sally Mt. All I could see was sheer cliffs. My second view of Slidedown was from MUCH closer...and it still had those cliffs, plus a boulder field at its base. I wanted to climb it in the worst way, but...things got in the way. I did contact the land manager, to see if there was any trail at all. Not so much, he replied. But ...
ENGULFED: The Deadly Beauty of Gulf Hagas!
มุมมอง 1682 หลายเดือนก่อน
How, exactly, does one have a 'different' hike in Gulf Hagas, you ask? By stretching the boundaries. By going where few have gone before. By daring to trod where the masses could never go. When I tell folks that I've done Gulf Hagas, I have to be specific: that I wasn't ON the trail-rather, I was IN the very bowels of the gorge. Like, up to my neck in water. "Oh, yeah," they'll respond. "We did...

Beautiful area ! Where is this located ?
@@pw7.088 on the Appalachian Trail, in Maine’s North Woods 🪵
it is always nice to be able to get out for a nice hike.
HELPING GET THE WORD OUT!
Same here. The Moosehead Regional Land Trust is doing all the heavy lifting at the moment...fingers crossed!

Croc on!
Love the waterfall shots! So no beach at the end of the unmarked side trail?
@amyniemczura-sowa7453 a shore, yes...just the water was a bit high
I just started "redlining" the Maine trails as well. Thanks for the great videos!
How many times can I hit the like button?
Love nature!!!

Waaay better than last time!!
Nice video! A colleague and I designed this trail about 20 years ago. Fun to see it again.
It's a wonderful trail, Steve!
@@NorthWoodsWalks Still hard to believe that I got paid to do that stuff!
“If you’re doing the great circle trail, just do all the loop de loops.”
Bestest quote ever!
Love this!
Me too!
I've been looking forward to doing this hike sometime this year. Waiting for the weather to get a little better. Thanks for sharing this hike in the snow.
You're welcome! Borestone's one of my faves.
Wow, was that the only sunny day in 2023?
It was sunny for 5 minutes LOL
Awesome, but be carful, thanks for posting.
Thanks, will do!
Uhm actually vaughn is my name❤😊
Almost 200 views...for most, that's not much...for me, it means everything and MEGA thanks to all who've watched!
Thanx for watching! I would like to add that the 7 Ponds mileage may not be what it seems. Meaning, I don't think that after the ford of Little Wilson, the next three ponds are all in a row. Rather, there's a split somewhere along the way. Long and short of it is, I don't want you thinking it's only another 0.2 from Rabbit to Savage's Mills, as the trail suggests. That may be the case, but I think not. If you've done the trail, by all means tell us in the comments below. Happy Hiking New Year, everyone & stay safe!
Love those buck hill views!
Better than i remembered
Wish I could hike this one every day! Can’t believe it was booted out of being a recommended hike in the Delorme!
ya what do they know??🤣
Only a small portion of west chairback pond visible… 6:12
yes not much to be seen...you should go when it's frozen! pretty cool
Is it possible to get there with a SUV (Honda Crv) ?
Hi! Sorry to be late w/replying...and I think so. The road(s) weren't too rough or pothole-y. And the CR-V has decent clearance. Have fun!
Never climbed in daylight
Oh you'll live :)
ENJOY! LIKE!! SUBSCRIBE!!! And get out there to see it for yourself!
Such a cool adventure. Fantastic trail and great views out there. You guys are a great team. Hiking with dogs is the best thing ;)
Thanx!

March 1st...can't wait!
@@NorthWoodsWalks trip of a lifetime, ill catch you out there! happy trails
