Along with all the other themes in the film, i always interpreted Full metal jacket as the somewhat 'Anti-Disney' film. GRANTED i doubt it's Kubrick's intention to make a film that mocks a multimillion dollar juggernaut, but it has that feeling, at least in my opinion. From the little references to mickey in the film, there's also the fact most of the recruits in the fisrt half of the film were just young men. And what joker says in the scene with the interviews, he says 'i wanted to be the first kid on my block with a confirmed kill'. Notice that he says 'kid' instead of 'person' or 'guy'. Most young men view war as a sort of adventure or thrill, but it's all just a fantasy, a facade that they think about before reality hits them, they would kill an enemy that was probably younger than them, get killed by traps made by simple children's toys, such as with Crazy earl finding a booby trapped teddy bear. This film is essentially the death of innocence and the transition from Youth to adulthood.

Kubrick would move things in the same scenes on purpose to disorient the audience.

The Maltese Falcon has a similar style of layering plot elements in order to hide an inner truth. First time you watch it it comes off as a straight forward hardboiled detective story but it takes watching it a few times to understand the motivations of each character once you know who's lying and who's not. Great analysis.

I just got done watching this movie I know way late to the party. This break down was really good brought up stuff I did not even notice amazing job . I have to vent so the cop shoots a Innocent woman. Cross get to take his daughter and probably molest her ugh . Plus he gets away with murder and taking all that land from all those people. I guess the bad guy wins sometime this movie had me yelling at the tv in the end lol .

I think it's a slight failing on the part of Towne and Towne's uncredited partner Edward Taylor and Polanski and Nicholson and Paramount chief Robert Evans--who all influenced the script--that we all have to GUESS at the reasons for the various events in the story. I wish you would analyze "The Godfather." Parts 1 & 2.There are several weak points in the plot there; e.g. Why did Rocco Lampone go on a suicide mission to kill Hyman Roth? NO explanation for that. And also: Why isn't it made more clear who let the assassins into the Lake Tahoe compound? And why is it not made more clear that the cop who interrupted the murder of Frankie Five Angels was--contrary to everything the audience sees--actually playing a part in a con game to make Frankie decide to destroy Mike?

As much I felt about the tragic ending, it was not just Evelyn getting shot dead, but also Noah Cross taking Katherine with himself. I can't ever get away with the fact what Noah did to his 'first' daughter Evelyn when she was young. It makes the climax even more disturbing that Katherine is also of the same age, which Evelyn was, when she was abused by her father! Thus, the future of Katherine in Noah's hands creates more disturbance in our heads 💔
