i was driving along in the northern area of the IOM and going down a very narrow country lane when I met a group of cyclists coming the other way. Going round a left hander, I almost collided with a group of cyclists coming up the hill. I braked hard and looked directly into the face of Mark Cavendish. He looked a bit miffed but I was so pleased that I hadn't wiped out Britain's great hero.

Spartacus was my hero. UNtil Peter Sagan. But Fabian was total class. I learned to stay seated and spin for power on climbs. His technique is the stuff of legends.
