    thank you! ive been desperate to hear commentary on this film that doesnt center around calling it one of the worst films of all time. this movie is incredible, even if i perhaps have an inflated view of that due to how dissenting an opinion it is. FYI you can still buy a hardcover of the entire prequel saga that's signed by Kelly and Weldele (the illustrator) AND it's only an edition of 500. It was made in 2007 and is still somehow in stock. The company doesnt produce anymore, theyre just selling existing stock, so the website is old and sketch (and the big phone number they say you can call to order sends you straight to a scam center) and also it's not on the catalog, it's only available through a specific link. But I ordered it hoping for the best and it seriously showed up a week later lmao, and it was an edition in the 200s so there's like half the stock left presumably. You can potentially find the link by googling "Southland Tales Prequel Saga Graphitti Hardcover" but I can also send it to you if you want it!

    • @screenjockeys
      @screenjockeys 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Holy shit, that's awesome about the signed, hardcover prequel - send me the link! And yes, I know exactly what you mean about having "an inflated view due to how dissenting an opinion it is." I was a late comer to this movie - I missed it in theaters - and never managed to see it on rental before it came out on I-Max. I finally managed to catch it for the first time at I-Max Mall of GA on that insane screen and it was amazing.... The bleacher seating shook when the Calvary charged at the beginning. I cant stress how cool seeing it in that environment was :) ... Since then I have seen it several times, and like it, but its not as good as seeing it at that theater :) ... I'll probably watch this new one when I get the opportunity. I will say when I saw the trailer, I thought it was a fan made/ joke, and had to go check to make sure it was real - so I dont have a lot of hope that it will be a great flick... lol

      @screenjockeys director wise, I know he's not really a helmsman for hire, but Terry Gilliam could evoke the beauty, grotesqueness and poetic quality that Ende felt was missing or toned down too much from the '80s movie. As could Jennifer Kent if given a sufficient budget.

    This is the most overrated twist ever. Now its a good movie, but the twist isnt earned at all. Compare with other twist movies, the audience is usually given clues to figure out the ending. The movie straight lies to you and at the end its like "just kidding". Its just like a " it was just a dream" ending.

    Saw this when it came out in a near-empty theater in the Beverly Center in LA. It was the only theater in the entire city where it was screening and I knew it wouldn't last more than a week there. I loved it for its incomprehensibility and rush of ideas and concepts that just appear out of nowhere and quickly disappear. It reminded me of the book the Sheep Look Up by John Brunner, which it may have been influenced by. I've seen it 3 times. The first time I thought it was genius, the second I thought it was totally stupid, the third, genius again.
