Rocky Mountain Disc filters first cleaning _ Review Part2
มุมมอง 503ปีที่แล้ว
Rocky Mountain Disc filters first cleaning review. The water looked pretty dirty as you can see from the video. I paid my own money for these and is just my honest off the cuff opinion. I installed them on March 29. This is after they ran for 8 days in my sump. Current Pump is a Vectra L2 running at 65-75% depending on time of day. 50% of the water is diverted to a Redsea Filter roller. You can...

Yo cousin👋
Great vid. Did they effect your skimmer?
No, didn't notice any difference between the two.
Overpriced.
Ozone is definitely a premium piece of equipment. You figure ozone generator unit is $279.99 and if you add a dryer Ozotech IQ-20 Air $700. With that said a lot of detail, and higher end pump (Sicce SK 200 Skimmer Pump $55) should be taken into account. Economy, inflation and base material cost going up are also another factor. Haven't seen a cheaper ozone unit with even close to the same quality. The hobby in general is just insane now 😞
@@Trickmanii the mutiny reactor is $700 without the ozone machine itself or the pump. Ridiculously overpriced. I bought one on e-bay a few years ago for $150 and it still works fine. Very basic piece of equipment. and yes everything in the hobby has gone through the roof. Crazy.
@@PawleyWalnuts Out of curiosity what are the reactors on ebay going for now? Georeef has one for $500 without the carbon stage. They add $180 for the carbon component. It's expensive but I don't think they are ripping anyone off for the quality you get. I will say everything I own from Avast marine has been well thought out and good quality. Although not cheap in price. Thanks for checking out the video. Wish the hobby prices would come down for sure.
@@Trickmanii bought mine a few years ago. Have not looked.
Speaking as a reefer who values slow-flow filtration, and despises 1) the process of bleaching and drying filter socks and 2) the thought of basically needing a “subscription” to continuously buying rolls for a filter roller, I have two of these and love them. My water is crystal clear. They barely let any detritus through to build up in my sump. They catch tons of stuff. I clean them out a couple times a week, and the process is so much better than rotating a set of a half dozen filter socks. This is just me personally, but I think the hobby has gone way too deep into the “my filtration flow should be insanely high” territory. There are a lot of benefits to slower filtration speed. I have a WaterBox 4820 and run a Neptune COR-15 return pump at 50% strength. Nice and easy. Doesn’t tear up the pump, and lets all my biomedia and my skimmer really act on all the yuck that passes through the sump. Not sure what my turnover rate of water is, but it’s not high, and my tank has remained pristine despite a relatively high bioload. However, the company should be advising reefers about the flow rate issue, as everyone has different setups and preferences and opinions on filtration speed.
I believe in slower filtration too but you clean couple of times a week? do they clog so easily?
@@drukkosz2196 The only way to not clean twice a week, is to run a roller mat. If you’re running socks or filter cartridges, you can’t let them go a whole week, even if they don’t fully clog. All that waste is breaking down every 72 hours and leeching dissolved rotten nutrients back into your water. You have to export those nutrients every 72 hours, or you’ll make your tank sick over the long term.
Those are sand filters for irrigation. I would not think they would work for an aquarium. Similar filters are available online for $13-$55. Looks like they took one of those and put it in a clear tube and charged$130
Why would it not work? What’s the difference between this and, say, a 200 micron mesh filter sock?
@@kalamazoo_reefer the disks are designed to be under pressure and from my perspective have less usable filter area. IMO these filter disks would clogged much faster than a sock. If you look at these filters being used in irrigation they have an automatic cleaning function once they get clogged and will do a back flush to clean themselves. Plus you can buy these for $13-$55 online which is way less than $130. These are off the shelf technology that has been used for years in irrigation.
Great demonstration. Thanks for sharing this.
Great video did you cut the white tubing that feeds the Ro ?
The hard tubing inside the reactor going to the bottom has a small oval/ V cut that I cut out in it at the top to keep it from back siphoning. When you clean the reactor it is good to check that it hasn't been caked over. Worst case would be it would back siphon into your R/O top off water.
Great video. 2 questions. Fill tube did you just drill a hole to stop siphoning. Power cord what disconnect did you use I like that idea a lot. Thanks in advance
I used a razor blade and cut a U shape out. These are the connectors I used a.co/d/iqLXcGp and these to seal the wires a.co/d/gfsUSYf
I’ve got the 200 micron version. The lighter colored one is the 200 micron variety. I do like it. I think it can replace a filter sock. However, the flow is pretty slow through it. I had to turn my return pump way down. And frankly, I think that’s fine, because I’m not a believer in “faster = better” when it comes to filtration. But I bet a lot of people would be irked by needing to slow their primary pump to compensate.
Agreed but the flow speed is pretty dramatic.
Do you think that was more than a filter sox or about the same
Really hard to tell as they trap things so differently. I haven't used any filter socks in years and was just using cups.
Subscribed and looking forward to your review
Is it quiet?
Are you gone do a review video?
It is quiet and I plan to give them a couple more days to allow some build up. See what they pulled out of the water.
Do u still have this guy?
Sadly no, I lost him about a year ago.

I did until they jumped out recently.
