yourcrawlspaceguys.com
Welcome to today's TH-cam video, where we dive into the world of shotcrete, an innovative construction technique used to repair and reinforce foundations. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore what shotcrete is, how it works, and showcase the expertise of Your Crawl Space Guys, a leading company specializing in foundation repairs. Whether you're a homeowner facing foundation issues or simply curious about this revolutionary repair method, this video will provide you with the knowledge you need to make informed decisions regarding your property's stability.
1.1 The Definition of Shotcrete:
Shotcrete is a construction material that involves a mixture of cement, aggregates, & water. What sets shotcrete apart is its application process, which utilizes a high-pressure pneumatic spraying nozzle to propel the mixture onto surfaces, creating a durable and robust foundation repair.
1.2 The Types of Shotcrete:
Shotcrete comes in two primary forms: wet-mix and dry-mix. Wet-mix shotcrete involves pre-blending all the ingredients before applying, while dry-mix shotcrete combines the components at the nozzle, offering greater flexibility in the field. Both types have their unique advantages, and we'll explore how Your Crawl Space Guys use them for foundation repairs.
1.3 Historical Significance and Applications:
Shotcrete's origins can be traced back to the early 20th century when it was first employed in tunnel construction. Today, this innovative material finds applications in various industries, such as building construction, infrastructure repairs, swimming pool construction, and, most importantly, foundation restoration.
2.1 Preliminary Assessments:
Before initiating any foundation repair project, Your Crawl Space Guys conduct a thorough assessment of the property. They identify the underlying issues causing the foundation problems, whether it's soil settlement, water damage, or structural weaknesses.
2.2 Site Preparation:
Proper site preparation is crucial for a successful shotcrete application. The team at Your Crawl Space Guys cleans the surface, removes any loose debris, and ensures a stable working environment before proceeding.
2.3 Mixing the Shotcrete:
Your Crawl Space Guys are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to mix the shotcrete accurately. The right blend of cement, aggregates, and water is prepared, adhering to industry standards to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
2.4 The Shotcrete Application:
With the mixture ready, the shotcrete application process begins. Highly skilled technicians at Your Crawl Space Guys use specialized spraying equipment to apply the shotcrete, precisely targeting the areas that require repair. The high velocity at which the material is sprayed ensures proper adhesion to the existing surface.
2.5 Curing Process:
After the shotcrete is applied, it undergoes a curing process to achieve its full strength and durability. Your Crawl Space Guys follow specific curing protocols to ensure the repair bonds effectively with the surrounding foundation.
2.6 Finishing Touches:
Once the shotcrete has cured, the team at Your Crawl Space Guys adds finishing touches to ensure the repaired area blends seamlessly with the rest of the foundation. This attention to detail results in a polished and aesthetically pleasing outcome.
3.1 The Importance of Professional Foundation Repair:
Foundation problems are serious issues that can compromise the structural integrity of your property. When dealing with foundation repair, it is essential to trust experts who have the knowledge, experience, and access to the right tools. Your Crawl Space Guys possess all these qualities and more.

The house appears to be sinking because you have a soils issue. There is an issue with the soil that is causing the house to sink or move laterally you’re trying to repair it as a construction defect it would appear. That will not work long-term the crack happened because the curtain wall sunk. reinforcing the existing curtain wall and amending the footing will only add more weight to the problematic soils.

Just a suggestion. Instead of a tapered wooden wedge that is impossible to properly fit between the top of the old footing and the plates. A nonshrink concrete grout would have been a beter solution.

Lisa, yes, foundation jobs are where we get the most return on investment in all honesty. But by pouring a new foundation and the partial dig out, we are completely changing the environment under homes from damp, tight spaces that smell of mildew and compromise the structural longevity of the home above. Sometimes people look at the price, get a few bids and decide to tear it down baby! But many times, these homes hold sentimental value and we want to help Oregonians and our Washington neighbors preserve their homes for many many decades to come. Pro Tip: There are some great 0% interest if paid in full unsecured finance options out there!

Hey why is clear plastic a bad thing? Like pros and cons

    • @yourcrawlspaceguys
      @yourcrawlspaceguys 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Matthew, clear plastic vapor barrier tends to have a slightly thicker membrane and folds differently than a typical black poly 6 mil. Pros would include esthetics (it just looks cleaner) and it is slightly thicker. We are happy to use either or, however the clear plastic unfolds awkwardly and is more labor intensive and therefore more expensive. We have found that in most every instance, the black 6 mil poly plastic vapor barrier is lasting as long as it claims and is more pleasant to install. Hope this helps!

Watched a guy do this to his own house years ago, but he didn't have the $$ to hire it out. The guy and a few friends dug each corner of the home out to 8 ft. (was a crawl) and supported the place on 6x6 timbers. Poured a proper footing and a week later installed block on each corner. (one corner per weekend) That part took another 2 months and a LOT of beer / pizza. At the 6 month mark they had closed in the other walls, except for what would become a Bilco door, which was left as a ramp because they were hand digging to make a full basement. Somewhere around the 9 month mark they poured a pad area for the furnace and well tank. They continued to dig intermittently over the winter and finally poured the floor about a year after starting. Recalling at the start they jig rigged all the plumbing on rubber hoses and bungee cords so they could jack the place level and raise it 6 inches to work. They even connected the sewer line with a section of tire tube so the guy could live in the house the whole time. Not a big house... maybe 1400 sq ft.
