I believe the C&O line form Manistee to Traverse City was removed in the 80s. Great Lake Central does go up there but they use the former PRR tracks from Cadillac. Some of the old C&O tracks are still used in town.

Not many engines used oscillating cylinders.

It is with the oscillating cylinders. I have a Mamod steam engine that runs on G track like that.

The air compressor is for working brakes. Most are straight air. When there is air pressure the brakes are on. Real trains have air tanks on each car and a triple valve that sets the brakes when the train line air pressure drops. Which also sets emergency brakes when the cars separate.

This is near Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. A private 1:8 scale railroad with approximately 5 miles, 8 km, of track. I have many more clips on my channel.

I had another time two deer ran across the track less than 15 feet from me. I didn't see them until they were crossing due to terrain and vegetation. It started me.

Maybe I'll get up there this year. The power car that's in front of the tender looks like it may have been built by using a Ride Trains MMC Chassis.

The last time I was up there I met a couple of guys who had a home built locomotive that was remote controlled they were from Jenison Michigan. I thought that they were geniuses because they came up with a handheld remote control lol

Evenings were always busy at Plaster Creek. With up to three road trains leaving east, hostlers moving locomotives at the engine house and yard crews. I was down there recently, and I saw Y290, Y297, and M326 yarding their train not too bad.

The yard is still in use but much less activity. The Locomotive shop is no longer servicing engines. The yardmaster is now remote from Rougmere in Detroit.

I don’t remember. This is all the video I have of this special move and it was 35 years ago. I didn’t remember the ride. I did remember going in the cab of the locomotive and someone asking “Where is the steering wheel.” Lol

It is amazing to see how far couplers move up and down. And they do bang at times.

I saw a photo of the first eastbound at New Buffalo. I remember when they started running to Grand Rapids, but it was before I started taking videos.

The Pere Marquette departs Chicago at 6:30 and arrives in Grand Rapids about 11:00 PM.

@@steamlogger so I could technically take the train to Grand Rapids and then walk the rest of the way to White Creek!
