97-01 Mercury Mountaineer/Ford Explorer 5.0 How to change oil, air filter & check fluids walkthrough
In this video I will be showing you how I change my oil, check my other fluids and air filter. This is a how to do it but ALWAYS practice safety first, and I accept no responsibility for mistakes you make. You assume all risks if you do this yourself. Just a heads up, but if any questions feel free to ask.
What you will need:
Oil catch pan, funnel, filter wrench, a Jack, 2 Jack stands, a 1/4" drive ratchet, ratchet extension, 17mm socket, shop towels, oil, filter, possible air filter. Takes roughly 30 minutes to do with all the right tools.

1997-2001 Mercury Mountaineer/Explorer 5.0 Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement walkthrough

This is how to remove and change the camshaft position sensor for the 5.0 engines if you have the code P0340, part number is for BWD CSS149
Built 95 GT, insane burnout! This is entertaining!

Sorry about video quality, this video was shot when the first blackberrys came out many years ago when cameras weren't really at an all-time high lmao. He never really takes this 95GT out a lot or get on it which is why he has 4k miles on it in over 11 years but my bro was about to get new wheels & tires, so decided to have a lil fun on these ones before they got tossed. The main goal was to ca...

Tryin to speak and got interrupted lmao but I love my bros 95 mustang GT. This video is about 7 years old but he still owns this and has continued to build on it. This was also on my other channel but this is my main channel so I posted it on here and removed from there so it's not posted twice. I hope you all like it.

This video was helpful. I was able to change out the sensor without taking any of the coils out or even the bracket they are attached to. The only bolts I needed to remove were the 2 7/32 ones on the sensor.
No, you don't need to have the engine at top dead center to change the camshaft position sensor
Thank you for this video my good sir!
Finally, Thank you.
Hey what issues was y’all having with the car when this code popped up
Thank you awesome directions. I had no idea but 2 minutes of your video solved. Good luck with the channel.
Will a loose black battery cord make the battery weak or unable to charge
Very informative but... What does it mean if the 0340 code pops up twice
Excellent video! They just scanned my Explorer V8 5.0 and marked this sensor in the scanner, I have problems starting my truck and I was wondering how to change this camshaft sensor.
I thought that to change it you had to put the engine in top dead center but I see that it is only to remove the old one and put the new sensor. Thank you very much for your help, brother! Blessings!
Excellently done
I just did this on my '97 Mountaineer 5.0. I was able to get at the sensor just by removing the right (nearer the battery) coil pack, and then reaching down to the 5.5mm bolts with an extension. The only issue I had that might've been avoided by removing more stuff was the retaining tab on the electrical connector snapped as I depressed it with a screwdriver. Probably unavoidable, since that plastic gets pretty brittle after 26 years. Thanks, though, for pointing me in the right direction in general, and I ALWAYS appreciate it when folks tell you what wrenches/sockets are needed. It was a big help knowing I had to search out that 5.5mm ahead of time.
You are supposed to put a little oil on the gasket not the threads helps it slide around the metal so I doesn't grip and break seal from the oil filter itself helps it come off and not stick to the engine and cause problems that is why you are supposed to always talk to make sure the gas that comes off the engine so you don't put the new one on and have two gaskets on the between the engine and oil filter
Yep!!! the gasket is where you need it!!!
Ty for video, and ty for your Service!
Absolutely ty kindly for your comment as well! And I appreciate that too!
Calibración de bujías
Good job on thoroughly explaining and video recording this sensor replacement. I was hesitant to remove the coils and bracket and after two hours and bruised and bleeding backs of my hands put it back together to try another day. I don't have a 5.5 mm socket - just an old set of small ignition wrenches and it is impossible to use a wrench in that tight location. The plastic housing broke on the old sensor as I poked around at it so I put a piece of duct tape over the now open sensor and am currently driving the car as it is running fine but just shows the code for bad camshaft sensor.
I think you did a great job on the video. I have a family member that needs one put in. I was trying to see how much of a job it would be. Not super easy, but not to bad. Thanks for your time.
Ty kindly I appreciate you and glad it help you out!
What was the problem? To make you changes that ?? I have issue with my car the code p0340 camshaft position sensor a circuit bank
Thank you...the prior owner crossed thread or something....so you helped me
I'm glad I could thank you kindly
Hey smart guy maybe you should study alittle more about mechanic work before u make a TH-cam video thinking u know what your talking about but u dont and I bet it leaks oil out of the oil filter cause u never use a tool to put your oil filter on period. For all you people that watched. Don't follow this smart guys mechanic work that is wrong. Never use a tool to tighten your new oil filter cause it will ruin the seal on the motor for the oil filter and will always leak and lose oil pressure of course. Only hand tighten your new oil filter on till its snug and make sure u use the old oil to rub around the new oil filter rubber seal ring.
How many miles does your engine have? My 2001 Mercury Mountaineer has 241,000 and it still runs strong.
Mine had like 202k when I sold it. I had it for 30k miles with no issues, tbh I miss it sometimes.
@@superbeeflyyproductions9948 That 302 is a tough engine.
Thumbs up from Kingsport, Tennessee!
I appreciate you, ty kindly, I live in Myrtle!
@@superbeeflyyproductions9948 Myrtle is nice.
Thanks brother for the video. I have a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer with the 5.0L. It has 241,000 miles and still runs like new. I got in it today and it did not run smooth. I broke out my code reader and it showed this code that read the camshaft position sensor was bad. I appreciate the video a lot. I have the tools that I need in my box. Have a pleasant night. Absolutely no problem, I'm really glad I could help you! More videos coming soon just life can get in the way sometimes you know. Ty kindly!

Hi Great Video. Is the part number BWD CSS149 a Mercury or Ford Part number? Is this available at the local Auto Parts stores? Thanks very much for the help. Much appreciated. Bill

Be honest.. Who else was listening to this in their car and paused the video at 1:37 to see if they needed to pull off to the side of the road or if those sirens in the video?? 🙋 guilty
Lol epic, my bad I'm sorry about that 😂😂
Nah man, ain't your fault!
I honestly next time will let people know as I'm taking the video. I hate when music videos do that lol

Thanks for the video. What about the radiator fluid, where's the proper fill line? 🤔
Absolutely, and the reservoir which I pointed out for coolant actually is overflow for the radiator, the reservoir should have min and max level line. Never take a radiator cap off when a vehicle is or has been running recently. It will shoot out because of the heat of the fluid like a geyser and burn you, plus it's a lil sticky. Check the cap when the vehicle is cold and if the radiator looks low on coolant and if so top it off with your respective coolant. But keep your reservoir filled closer to the max line.
@@superbeeflyyproductions9948 yes sorry about that, that's what I was referring to the overflow reservoir. On my vehicle it's hard to tell where the line is. I have an 02 Ford Explorer. 🤔
@@verinb9 it might be on the side facing the front of vehicle or side facing the engine. I don't have the vehicle anymore but I'll do some research after work and give u a better answer
Thas watsup.. Shiid. I rather pay u to do the shiit for me

Absolutely, it's not as hard as they make it to seem most times. Thank you as well!
Thanks buddy!
Absolutely, no problem!
Next time try to put some clean oil on the rubber gasket.
Will do ty for the info
I'm glad i wasn't the only going huh????? Lol
Didn't show instruction on where to set the camshaft syncronized gear all sad
It's already set. You don't need to unless you're changing the synchro. It only fits correctly in one direction.
No, you don't need to have the engine at top dead center to change the camshaft position sensor

thank you. just got back from getting my smog, mechanic said camshaft needs to be changed. now got your video as a reference. First video. Great job.
