In this video I will be taking a look at some of the essential items that I take every trip and why. The videos already out there particularly the BMC content touches on this nicely but I wanted to add my own spin on things and add a bit of clarity for those beginners just getting into the hobby. The Aonach Eagach Ridge - Grade 2 Scottish Scramble - Summer 2022

Brilliant video! I'd add Grindsbrook Clough to this list. It was my first scramble as an 18 year old keen hiker and is brilliant fun. Easy technical difficulty (grade 1 at the most) but just the right length and views backwards are stunning, as is the beautiful waterfall area you scramble up - would recommend even to experienced scramblers! I've done a couple of grade 2s now, and my next plan is Elbow Ridge as it looks incredibly fun. Also agree with your mindset about it being easy climbing without the technicalities of ropes. I'm a V5-V6 gym boulderer but not yet bothered to get into outdoor rope climning because it just seems like a bit of a "faff" to get into. Scrambling can be a great activity without the need for rope (in good conditions of course), and gives you the fun tactile feeling of bouldering, the excitement of exposure, without the need to faff about with gear.

Sadly 2 climbers died in an avalanche in wilderness gully Jan 1963. This together with another tragedy on Bleaklow in 1964 was instrumental in the Peak District Mountain Rescue becoming better organised.

Having done a bit in the peaks, it just doesn’t offer the same experience as climbing in Snowdonia. The difficulty in the peak climbs comes from wet, greasy, slippery, rock… not from massive exposure.. no sustained scrambling linking grade3 together.. head to the Ogwen valley and tackle the cneifion and link to dolmen ridge, then head back down the gribin ridge or devils kitchen to tackle Idwal buttress… and any number of routes up Tryfan.. don’t get me wrong, the peaks has its place for walking/fell running, but for a day of scrambling get in your car and drive a couple of hours.. good informative video though my friend… 👍🏻🕊️

I do get the Nalgene for winter camping but the lifestraw is like the worst filter on the market in my mind. I much prefer the platypus QuickDraw screwed onto a 750 ml pet bottle. The bottle goes into the recycling after each tour and fits much better into side pockets and is much lighter as well. Also you can keep the filter on your person in the cold to prevent it from freezing because it has caps on each end. Good video though :)

Great video mate. Ive recently put up some scrambling videos including aonach eagach and collies ledge in skye. I think the grade can be a bit biased towards verticality and in particular when I climbed Pinnacle Ridge in the lakes I found it pretty easy and would say I preffered it over Jacks rake - the tree section I was terrified. But maybe its about getting over your fear of heights.
