This is little video i made of this remarkable building that is built in the middle of the river Don at Rotherham. It is Our Lady on the Bridge Chapel that dates back to medieval times, my thought on the building may sound strange however this does take anything away from the remarkable builders to build such a structure that has stood in the middle of the river for hundreds of year. I came across this amazing little building on a visit to Sheffield as can be seen it has been left for elements to take over and i would think it will soon become structurally unstable and will be pulled down to make way from modern development.

There were underground public toilets in the centre of the square and the large Hallam University building was the main city post office and telephone exchange with multiple red phone boxes along the front and next to the railings and steps.
its the old main post office, not sure what it was prior to that
Hi Dave Just stumbled onto your channel. I may have some interesting information about underground Stockton and also Scarborough. I now live in Darlington and I am a retired Builder. If you are interested in meeting message me. Regards Peter Burton.
I can't believe I haven't seen this video before now. Did you manage to find out any more information on this. I have lived in stockton most of my life and have always wanted to find these tunnels I have also asked stockton council and they basically won't say yes and won't say no but will not give information on them. I think they won't tell us bevayse they will be used in a emergency I think and obviously loads of people would enter them. I would happily pay for a private tour of all these and even sign a declaration to say I wouldn't tell of what I had seen the London a whole London underneath apparently
Fitzalan square used to be English. Like the rest of Sheffield, not any more.
Are they coal shoots
the Victorians converted it into a coal shoot.
Seems like the historical society is a club. You know a club you can't join. You did right, screw them.
Cheers! I know the truth thats all that matters.
They used to call them cellars !
Looks (Galaland) very much like what I've read to be of Tartarian style of building!
i agree this complex was built long long before the Victorians...Have you checked out my other gala land videos as i prove the Victorians did not build this.
Chapel Gardens to the North of this Farm.
Nice one i didnt know that....have you seen the bronze age video i did about this same area.
@daveeboney7089 No, I'll check it out
Hi Dave, about 10 years ago, following a local news article on tunnels under Stockton High Street, I put a FOI request into Stockton council asking for more information about the tunnels, and where they go to etc etc. The council responded by denying the existence of any tunnels and that it was all a fictional belief.??? Looks like your video's are proving otherwise!
its the same with all towns and cites they all have lower levels however the authorities will always deny this. I have a friend in Sheffield who has just been asking his council about known tunnels yet they still claim they do not exist. I do have a few videos where i go below building in the town. Have you seen my Gala Land videos about Scarborough and its past underground.?
Fascinating place and history, though some of your interpretations of the photographs seem very amis. The one that most comes to mind: The photograph you display at 17:27, the darker areas between fencing you point to below the Spa Bridge, that's clearly sloped areas of grass and scrub falling down to road level, not the tops of buildings or openings to a lower ground level. I wonder if the photo at 15:15 may hold some answer to why the underground Aquarium was built in the first place -- maybe there was already an underground (or at least below road level) area created by the construction of a road layout leading into the south bay, over what would have been a V-shaped valley and beck. What you're seeing in that photo may even be the side of what was at one point a stone bridge. If so, there would not be a need for the extreme excavation work you describe, nor any disturbing of the foundations of the Spa Bridge (for the bridge's foundations would then have had to be at a lower level than the road surface anyway). Edit: Having scrolled through the other comments this does seem to be the general consensus about what took place. Edit 2: Oh no, having looked through your other videos I've pieced together you're a conspiracy theorist, believing in what's referred to as the "Tartarian Empire", a lost advanced civilisation that was wiped out by mud floods. That's why there's this seemingly unrelated part at the end of the video about mud, and why you keep referring to an "official narrative". What a disappointment.
glad you enjoyed it😁
pathologic altruism is a mental disease and it's rife there.
The underground toilets were close to where the diggers are in the old photograph. They were closed in the early 70s late 60s I walked across the square twice a day as it was my school route 1967 to 1972
Hi Thankyou for great video , I was born and brought up in Sheffield , I remember that area as the great hole in the road, with underground tunnels to each direction , shops , loos , fish tank delux, I always used to wonder to why so buildings were below street level, and always walked up fargate looking above eye level at the huge magnificent architecture, that was as a kid always lol, now kicking 60 so happy this has been picked up, fits with all the other stuff we are finding outxx
cheers!x
Hi Dave . Next time you visit Scarborough, come see us on the beach . We'll be there (weather permitting ) on the sand in front of the big wheel.
Will do frazz......i never made it last year so im overdue a visit..xx
Hey heyyy frazz! Can I come down and see you one day lol ride a donkey if i'm not too old
Blackpool same
It’s a stunning building and inside is to. I’ve lived in Manchester all my life and only recently visited here. It’s free entry to which is always a bonus 👍
I live in Scarborough,I’m totally onboard with something being a miss but it could just be that they dig down to the clay and make use of the space ?
Pretty sure there used to be a lift of sorts in that bit with the steps you looked down. This square was redeveloped about five years ago. It was essentially a roundabout before. That alley you walked down is called Jew Lane. There used to be signs but the famously dumb city council took them down cos wokery.
❤❤❤
I used to go to mothly cb radio eyeball meetings in one of those buildings back in the 80’s, think it was the one with the bay windows.
Beautiful building! Thanks Dave
One of your noisier videos dave!
My grand parents lived in 98 church Road. Thers was the council offices, then the knights club,a law firm,a sports shop, the old church, the alley way though to the factory where asda is now,a couple of houses a electrical shop, old man vince in 96,then my grandad parents ,a old lady, the papershop,a betting shop then a fabric shop which is now the corner kitchen...everyone knew each other and when they saw you walk by they'd wave...happy times
All I remember of under that area used to be underground toilets
I'm here courtesy of TimAWells subbed up 🙂👍 I knew that alley way as Jew's Walk... turns out it was actually called Jew's Lane I was always interested to know more about it . . same goes with Grinders Hill ..I would love to know more
Sadly i am just a visitor to Sheffield so i am not to clued up on the cities history like tim is.
You have made a really interesting discovery about that area. I used to go into that building when it was a post office. It retained some pre war grandeur, but what might be of more interest to you is where the cash shop once stood I believe was the Myrtles hotel. During WWII is received a direct hit from a German bomb. The damage was so extensive the guests could not be dug out, but were left buried under rubble. In other words, the ruins and remains were built over and buried.
cheers!
seven people where dug out of the basement of the Marple's building, which was used as an air-raid shelter. Additionally over one thousand tonnes of rubble were cleared from the site. It was then covered in quick lime, back-filled and left for 19 years before the site was used again.
@@beeleywood7796 thanks for that👍
IT used to be the old post office.ther so deep underground because in those days it was like a bank very busy majoor One! In the center was underground Toilets for men and women! Those steps you wear looking at in the corner you used to be able to go dowen those watch would take you too the old market place and verrias uther placeses 😊.and remember buildings cudante be built taller than the Cherch In britain?.
Thanks for the info
This is really fantastic and I'd love to hear more about this place. 👌🏻
I do have other Stockton videos on this channel😁
Mud flood
Cracking video this especially because you have some old photos. The ally way with ground level old windows good find. As you no you can go anywhere and find evidence of a cover up like this its unbelievable. I think it was end times Christ return explains what happened to everybody. Thanks dave 👍
cheers matt
@Dave ~ I went downstairs in there many years ago for a typing test interview in a huge room with about 20 other girls for a job with the Council. I do recall it having a weird spooky feel to it 😬
Olde energy harvester ?!

Far better than Sheffield Cathedral Dave.

Hello Dave. What a lovely old world structure. I thought it was impressive on the outside, until you brought us indoors... stunning interior! Thanks for sharing your exploration. Have a Happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year. Cheers!
Cheers Frankie i hope you have a great new year and hope you have many hours exploring the untold history of where we all live.😁👍
Thanks for your information

So go in the art gallery, tell them what you are doing and ask if you can peek through the downstairs door window. Take a decently powerful torch and shine it through the glass. Go during winter, aka now, around 4.30 when it’s getting dark so you can maximise the use of the torch.
Sadly i dont live in Scarborough but i do know the are gallery door below the street leads into toilets that are underneath the pavement and roads outside.
Thank you. Have many memories since childhood.
Hello Dave. Wonderful find there. It's amazing what you can find when you stop and look. Especially when one looks down the side or back lanes and alleyways. No surprise that that whole square goes down multiple floors. Nice job. Take care. Cheers!
Cheers frankie!
Sheffield town hall up the rd. by peace gardens is same - sunk.
I've done a video on the town hall it's on my channel😊
Also note that the old buildings have had the roofs changed, sometimes losing a storey. Clear to see here with the changes to the top of the uni building. This also happens in every town and city.
cheers!
I live in Wolves and its exactly the same. Thx for the video
when you start looking it can be seen in every town and city.
Great example
Thx for the share 😊
Dave Moorgate St was known as Ship Hill, I don't know why. Can't believe how dead Rotherham was, used to be packed when I was at College there between 1980 and 1984.
Hi tim...sadly i did not get the time to have a good look around the town as most of my time was spent at the minster and the river chapel bridge but im sure i will be back one day.
Hello Dave. A lovely gold mine you've found in Rotherham. The entire square area you cover here is filled to the brim with pre-reset old world. Excellent details with the gargoyle beasts... quite a few on that building. Oh my! The mudflood windows stick out like a sore thumb. Hard to deny them. Another great tour. Thanks again. Take care. Cheers!
Cheers Frankie!😁
Hello Dave. Wonderful place you've found there. I would seem to a fella that this would not have been the easiest structure to build... right on the waterway like that. The Victorian tart-up on it is exquisite! Lovely embellishments on top. Looks more like a castle than a house of worship, but then again don't they all? Thanks. Cheers!
Cheers frankie....i do think it was once part of a castle structure from the past myself.....there is only one other one in the country that i hope to visit next year as its not that far from this one..
No 36 for Mason.......seriously, 666 for a guy supposedly, by sheer coincidence, was called "Mason".........oh my word!😂

Hi Dave. Now I am up and ready to watch your newest .) To me, it looks like a fort - and the big windows may have been added at a later period. A controlpost of som kind (Checkpoint Charlie style LOL)
hi Ivan hope all is well i do think it is just part of a much bigger building as you mention.
