I have been lurking in coffee subreddits for a while now, mainly laughing and judging silently but decided this time to have a round up for the year.
Watch along to see my thoughts and review on the most upvoted posts on r/espresso in 2024, of course with some stupid coffee memes.

try to be more entertaining. like u r just blabering random stuff
Appreciate taking the time to leave your feedback mate! I understand my kind of humour is not for everybody and I'm just trying to present in my own unique way. Have a happy new year!
Very informative
Glad you found it helpful!
Update: Just managed to brew espressos with all 3 decaf beans (not the caf) as friends requested lattes at 10.30pm. Of course as the coffee connoisseur in the group I am more than happy to deliver, at the same time get some inputs from their not-so-sweaty tongues Interesting findings: 1. It requires a FINER grind. And I mean FINERRR. I am nowhere close to this grind size with my usual light roasted beans, even with high altitude ones. 2. What I taste: Interestingly very similar to my cupping results, with -EA highest acidity but not unpleasant, most fruity, no vegetal notes. Flatter finish -CO2 weakest and dullest overall, obviously more watery than others. -SW brings a higher body with chocolate notes, less acidity, and the most complex and lingering finish (My Fav) -I would obviously have confirmation bias now that I've done the cupping, so I let my friends do some blind tastings to see what they pick up with each cup and which is their fav. 3. What my friends think (blind tasting) -EA "high acidity", "more sourness", "dropped off a cliff" -CO2 "flattest", "less coffee taste", "fav cup because it tasted like coffee and that's it. Nothing more or less" -SW "Nice coffee", "smooth", "fav cup x2" Conclusion: Quite cool that my friends were able to pickup some key differences. I like the "drop off a cliff" metaphor, which is high brightest upfront with a big drop in finish that I tasted. CO2 was majority the least favoured cup other than 1 friend who drinks nescafes regularly *sus* SW won most hearts as its closer to traditional high body espresso with the most sweetness and complexity. My fav is SW as its the most balanced overall, but EA was a close second due to its pleasant juicy acidity upfront that I really enjoyed, but really lacking after that especially the finish. CO2 nothxbye.
i had very similar results from the tasting. but i liked the acidity of the EA. and i quite liked the coffee to begin with.. but maiby my roster roasted it a little more?
Hey mate thanks for sharing your results! Yea I would think if Caf was more pleasant to begin with I would likely favor EA too because it definitely escalated level of acidity I am confident thay Square Mile is a top notch roaster, so unlikely that they under-roasted it. It appears those who reported the unpleasantness weren't uniformly from one particular roaster, so even with the same roaster there were mixed feedback. I would hypothesize - Either before the roasting process (batch issue? Big logistical challenge to deliver to so many roasters around the world?) - Post-roasting? I am not sure how fresh the beans were as there was NO roasting date on mine, weird as with all my SquareMile beans there is always roasting date printed. And I also received an email just after delivery (about 2 weeks before the event) recommending me to freeze the beans, which I didn't assuming the beans were freshly roasted.
Whats your espresso range? Mine 25-30 (same grinder)
Hey there, I brew light roast mainly and it's around 20-25 when burr touches at 0. Since then I had to adjust the 0 past true zero because with the coarsest setting at 90 it's still not course enough for my v60. So now it's espresso 12-17, and 80-90 for v60.
id be interested to see how Inhale and such work, having mushrooms and such instead of coffee is... weird. Id love to see someone thats actually into coffee rate it, rather than just random influencers...
Is Inhale a company producing beanless coffee too? I can't seem to find anything about it on Google... Oh yes I'd loveee to see experts like James Hoffmann or Lance Hedrick rate it! With some digging I found daddy Hoffmann's reply on reddit a few months ago, showing interest in making a video but at the same time expressing his concerns on the impact on specialty producers
Makes sense, it'd be still good to have an understanding, though. I've seen a few people order but haven't really had much else to say beside "it tastes good" Also, I meant exhale... not inhale, haha
Cool I was not aware of this London-based company. At least they are still using real coffee beans but sourced more ethically and promises GREAT health benefits. Hmmmm
I have one for sale if anyone is interested!
That's great, feel free to drop some more details so people that are interested would dm you. Just wondering if you are upgrading or some particular issues driving you away?
Hahahaha i enjoyed your content already! New subscriber here. Keep making reviews yaa 🎉
Thanks for your support!!! And taking your time to leave a kind comment. A couple more out by the end of the year 👀
Wouldn't really say they're defects! They're going to be ground anyway, so the shape ane such don't really matter beside aesthetic purposes Pact are a large scale roaster so I'm sure they don't pick out every weirdly shaped bean, as long as it's been roasted correctly and isn't going to hinder the taste, it shouldn't matter all that much!!
they likely were just crushed by a paddle in the cooling tray, we tend to see this happen sometime. If there's a difference in taste, I'd bring it up, though!!!
Thanks for your expert opinion! I was just surprised to see that many imperfections in just a 20g sachet, which I didn't notice in my last 3 years of monthly 1kg specialty beans. If they are broken post-roasting it should be alright just like what you said, the worry is when the green beans are uneven to begin with hence being roasted inconsistently. So far I haven't tasted anything off so happy days. Just wondering, do roasters get Q graders in (or in-house) to kind of "certify" the beans specialty grade?
Also adding on because apparently my message didn't send previously, a lot of beans are usually crushed or cracked upon falling out the chute or crushed by the paddles if theyre not adjusted correctly, from my experience. But also some of the sugars can seep out while roasting which can also look a bit burnt or under developed in the very center
Very interesting perspective, I would love to visit a roastery in the future!
Most are open for the public! Some even offer cupping sessions or are open to serve drinks while they roast. Have a look around :)
97%!!!
Smart guess ;)
just wanted to say, I personally think you're very underrated. You should definitely have more traction, I've enjoyed following this series thus far and I'm sure I'm going to continue to stick around. PS. I LOVE peabury beans. So small, so round. They're a nightmare to roast though.
WOW. You absolutely made my day! So glad to see people ACTUALLY enjoying this series, let alone leaving such an encouraging comment, I appreciate you so much ❤️ And I didn't know peaberries are much more difficult to roast though, I mean it makes sense when something is rounder and has smaller surface area, theoretically should be harder to roast evenly. Sounds like roast your beans too? And please leave any ideas or feedback if you do have any, I'll try to make it happen :)
@BeansNBanter I'm glad, I truly am enjoying these videos! Quite a learning experience, too. I do, I work at a small roastry, and we use Brazilian peabury in our blend. Compared to other beans, like Indian monsooned malabar, they are TINY! But your theory is right! Less surface area, being rounder, all contribute. Looking forward to future content!
@BeansNBanter Only suggestion I can give at this time, is try reviewing some beans from different small local roasters, not only is it good publicity for them, you're supporting local businesses, and having a good variety to try!
Very cool! The Indian beans that I've never heard of sound really cool too.
Thanks for the good suggestion! Sounds like something interesting for the future, once I finish processing this Advent calendar (I'm definitely not tired and don't need a break lol)
I have the same grinder. I must confess, I installed the SSP Lab Sweet V3 without trying the DLC burrs. I'm very happy with the results, though.
That's great to hear! What do you brew mainly and what do you think the burr excels at?
@@BeansNBanter Nothing but espresso, which I'm told the V3's do very well. It tastes good to me 😉 I only do the more classic "Italian-style" dark roast and milky drinks, though.
@@FatNorthernBigot Amazing, most importantly you are happy with the brew and taste is king!
@@BeansNBanter I do like the brew I'm getting. It's very consistent. I've had grinders, in the past, which vary wildly in shot time, yet my puck prep is exemplary. As I'm sure is yours 👍
@@FatNorthernBigot Ohhh yes repeatability is a big thing, my previous grinder SGP used to drive me crazy on top of huge grind retention. Been switching back and forth from filter to espresso settings everyday at the moment and it's sooo reliable.
ASMR special editions for Day 9 & 10 because I'm away for a trip, Day 10 will be back with the usual silly meme edits and useless coffee quiz!
Shoutout to @SweetMariasCoffee for the great tour of the Miravalles farm!
Thank you for this great video :) DF64v is a great grinder but now I see that it's not for my setup. 1 out of 10 grinders goes off from my shortlist :) Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it, and most importantly helped your thought process! Just wondering what drove you away from DF64V, and which grinder you are gravitating towards more atm?
@@BeansNBanter No auto-off, rotating switch from the left side (my kitchen space is tight), no portafilter handle, no knock-off particle solution on the chute, and some other I forgot now. Varia VS6 makes me hot, I'm about to pull the trigger. Or... maybe you can make a video about it? :) I'd love to see it with your sense of humor.
Ooo good choice! For a long time I was looking at VS3 but the bad reviews online on the motor unit and grind dial issues drove me away. VS6 looks cool especially with the burr swapping mechanism, not too many reviews atm but TomsGrinderLab made a comprehensive review if you haven't seen it which I trust his expertise wholeheartedly. Man I can't believe I am getting review requests already! Thanks so so much for liking my content, I'll try to screenshot your comment and send it over to Varia and request a review unit but I doubt they gonna entertain a midget channel like mine 😂
@@BeansNBanter Too late :) I've had Varia VS6 with a promo code from one YTber (-100$) but then I've noticed that there is a cybermonday promo code from varia... what saved me nearly 250$, leaving the final proce reasonable. I'm still a bit uncartain about the burrs size (small 58mm) but in compare to my 10y old Ascaso i-steel grinder it MUST be better :) So, I've pulled a trigger.
Happy that you struck a good deal! Burr size theoretically can give more uniformity due to bigger grinding surface area and less heat, but practically it is quite negligible, hence the big praise of the DF54! Burr geometry on the other hand is a MUCH bigger variable. Hope you receive it safely soon and I will be very interested to hear your thoughts. It's time for you to make a review now :)

Editing was fire hoping to see more uploads.
Mate, your comment almost gave me a hard-on. Almost. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the editing, took me quite some time let me tell you that. I'm working hard on the next video, stay tuned!
Earned a sub for the skibidi editing in the coffee space, this is novel and game changing
Personally I indulge in brain-rot memes (probably a bit too much), figured our caffeinated dopamine-hungry brains might enjoy some of that too. Appreciate your positive feedback Daniel! More to come in the near future for sure
I never comment on TH-cam but i gotta say, before looking at the sub count i would have nerver guessed you had only 8 subscribers. The quality is excellent! Keep it up, I really like the flow, and coffee certainly needs a more layed down approach like yours!
Thanks for taking your time to leave the kind comments Xavier, really means a lot to me! No excuses not to give my best efforts despite being a baby channel, glad that you've enjoyed it!
Nice video man❤️🔥🤙🏻
Thanks a tonne! Cheers being the first-ever comment on my channel ❤️
