Tutorial: How To Replace the Timing Chain, Balance Shaft Chain & Water Pump on a Pontiac Solstice
Like David, I enjoy both types of video. Although it's a tie between the two.
I enjoy both the rebuilds and restorations, but probably the restorations have the edge for me. keep up the good work.
Thanks David!
At first I thought this was an April Fools joke. Lol I'm scared as f*CK to do my timing chain now
Very nice! Did you use the entire 16.9 oz bottle of dye?
Just watched the whole series on the Corvette. Great job!
Awesome! We’re so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
Just a question, I have an 07 gxp. How did you fix the exhaust rattle?
If I remember correctly, the muffler was pushed forward when the bumper was hit and caused the exhaust pipe to vibrate against the undercarriage. I think I pulled it back out with a hoist.
@@rebuildit thank you so much. Mines rattling a little and just bought it. I'll check to see if the hangars are allowing the exhaust to sway into the bumper! Love the video!
Thank you sur I've had this problem 😊
Glad we could help!
Did you think about getting the hardtop coupe part molded so more can be made for sales to other solstice owners, that was definitely a money making opportunity
We don’t have the resources or money for that process. Otherwise we definitely could’ve done that.
Where did you order parts from?
Directly from CanAm
Lovely story for the car and a lovely car to own!
Put a fan shroud back on it.
Small block Chevy in a 68 firebird. Kool!
No worries on the delayed videos. Life can get busy. Love the family history on this one and happy to see it's staying in your family tree.
Thanks Pat!
Looking forward to watching the process. that's a favorite verse for me, thanks.
Did you have to remove the steering wheel or was that done for better visibility for the camera? Great video.
Thanks for watching! That was a long time ago, but I think we had to remove the steering wheel to remove dash.
Video was a huge help and your correct I did have to remove the steering wheel.
What black paint did you use for the engine bay?
I think it was Krylon Industrial Semi Flat. The semi flat is hard to find
Doesn't look like the back brakes are working to well.
Solstice coupe
I paid $200 for mine and I'm not going to spend $5,000 on parts when all it needs is a door and a fender and a bumper and maybe replace the top that's less than $1,000 where I'm at
👍🏻
Easily 11k cars in the near future
Hi thank u for all the info but what is the brand or name of the the black paint for the top!?

I have a T2 that was purchased new in Des Moines. I can’t believe that I stumbled on the this video. Your content was well produced and enjoyable.
Thank you! Make sure to watch the whole series!
Initially didnt appear it did anything but I drove around the block and tried it again and it worked like a champ! One question though - brakes feel mushy now (didnt before) - do you think they need bled because of this adjustment?
Unlock the radio the cluster will show data
What a nightmare! I was thinking about buying a Solstice, but I changed my mind after seeing what is involved in changing the water pump. The engineer who designed this motor is definitely not a mechanic. Your video saved me from a future nightmare. Thanks!
Thank you
I find it bizzare that the black links didn’t both go to the timing gears and the off color link didn’t go to the crank. Why would they make it that way?
Random question: where is the Satellite radio receiver? I have read that it's behind/above the rear passenger wheel well (for the Verts anyways), but I don't think I see it in your footage.
You guys came out on it very well. Look at kelly blue book.
I think the engine just sat for a while and things are a little gummed up along with there being some junk sitting on the valves since the compression numbers increased with each test as things got moved around a bit. You might try cleaning the valves off and using some valve lapping compound before spending the time and money to send it to a machine shop. Also the staining and small pitting in the cylinder is probably not related to the compression issue as it seems to be sitting down low below where compression really begins to build (also it seemed to be at TDC during the test, negating any issue down in the cylinder). A good cleaning and some run time on the engine might clear up a lot of these issues Good luck with the build!
Thanks for the encouragement! A little inside info before the next episode, I sent the head off to a machine shop and had it tested. They said it was in great shape and held good compression. So I hope you’re right about the cylinder.
Are both heads being machined?
Just sending one off to be checked for issues with the valves
Welcome back Mark, it’s great to see that the engine is giving you more content that you probably didn’t want, Happy Easter
Thank you! And thanks for watching! Happy Easter!
GREAT VIDEO…..! And congrats on the GXP T2 to Bobby for connecting everyone! Love the Rebuild it channel
Thank you for watching and for the kind words!
The SRT6 Crossfire is faster… I think it’s 13.0 compared to 13.5 1/4 miles times. But with a quick boost controller and exhaust it’ll be at the same speed
Good deal. Now it is great.
Wow. Looks super. Lotta work. Amazing results.
6:45. Literally every 2.0 solstice engine I've seen has this breather nipple broken off. I don't know what the deal is with that, but I suspect I gets broken off while trying to get to the air filter. Terrible design and trying to find a replacement intake tube is nearly impossible.
I HATE SCAMMERS AND COPART/IAA need to have stiffer warnings for sellers AND a fraud fine….! That’s a scam period! To purposely mislead is a scam! And the buyer should be able to get a % back or return it… and the seller should be banned from selling vehicles. If they implemented that simple rule it’ll clear up to 75% of the bad apples.
IAA is usually pretty good/transparent about it. Copart, based on our experience, has no real recourse against scammers. We’ve gotten scammed by Copart twice on two different cars.
This video and the channel should have THOUSANDS of views! I don’t get it!
Us either 🤷🏼♂️ Maybe one day we’ll get there!
When are you doing an update video? Keep ‘em coming
Part 6 is coming soon. We’ve been super busy lately and haven’t had a lot of time to work on videos, but I promise a new one is coming real soon. Thanks for watching!
I would love to see a carpet removal on a 2015 challenger and maybe a link to the places you get your parts from. I’m trying to fix my Sxt. Don’t want to give her up but I want to fix her interior
We don’t have this car anymore, we sold it about a year ago. We ordered all the parts directly from Dodge.
Just bought a 2006 Solstice and I need to treat the convertible top. I will use the 303 as you demonstrated but what type of dye product did you use to get the top darker? I would love to apply this technique to get my top restored to its highest potential. Any feedback on this question would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for your video contentt - Divine timing and connection! 😁

Thank you very much! @@rebuildit
My can am rpm is stock on 4000 not going above
You could have done the same with the wiring on the airbag also . Saving yourself about $600
You can buy wire connectors to solder on the old wires . Worked for me.
I mean the clock spring wires.
Gods work!
I have a 2020 dodge challenger sxt can you rebuild it for me?
Awesome content..😂😅
Is there anyway that I can tell if the timing chain was replaced? Our Sky is very clean with 120k on the odometer. What are the symptoms to look for on the Kappa brothers?👌🏾💎😎
