Well I know from experience, you are not opening many of the locks he is showing that fast. As far as Padlocks like Master, you are better using a SHIM to open them. Most locks are Pick Resistant now.
@@xaemosxone “Most locks are Pick Resistant now”. How so? Agree that not all these locks are being opened fast. Some have security pins and I only added the opening. That will be obvious to most I believe. In my experience it’s much faster to pick a master lock than to shim it. Would love to see others thoughts on this.

I got to know your honest opinion and don't feel like you're being a blowhard or anything but.. is it that good of a profile or are you just that good of a picker? I'm really torn on this purchase and I honestly I'm interested in just the turning tools and haven't bought this cuz I don't want to have 3 to 4 picks that I never use.
It’s such a great question. I’m a little torn on the answer. The Reaper hooks are definitely designed differently, both profile and strength, and I believe they are a great addition, and not so much as a ‘solve all’. In so many cases, 20 thousand just it’s needed. Yet, the difference between 20-25 is everything. Personally I can’t get past the strength. I’ve beat the crap out of mine, mangled at least one, but they don’t stop. Still using the mangled one lol. As for the McTickler, it’s the single most versatile pick in my arsenal. I’ve opened probably 95% of my Locks with just that profile. Plus that #1 hook is almost just as versatile as the McTickler. The #4 & #5, have deeper reaches than their other profiles, it appears anyway. Then you have the price, which I think for what you get is unbeatable. Definitely tough call. I like the set so much, I have one for carry, one for home and a back up…. Just saying lol
As a side note: just because I can open a lock with the McTickler, doesn’t always mean it was the best option.
By the time she's in high school, a lock won't even slow her down 😊
Raking with a #1??? 🤔
@@Thief-d3c I’d probably call it zipping but raking works too. #1 hook kicks butt. Ever try it? Happy picking 🔒💪🏻
@ sorry, I’m new to picking and didn’t know the correct terminology. It’s my first set and I don’t want to risk damaging my picks this early on. Seems effective tho 👍 I do some zipping with the mctickler tho 😂 works great
@ Welcome to the community my friend. Here if you have any questions. Reaper Set is great. Wouldn’t hurt to have some 25 thousand picks and the different tensioners as a great complement like found in the Genesis Set. Good luck 🍀
@@PETEfromPA thank you!!! 💪
You always need a handful of different picks on hand. You never know what the lock will respond to
What about.. a deforest/offset groove? That may seem like a stupid or obvious question but I'm literally that new still LOL
@@ricksanchez3204 Unfortunately I have them but haven’t put much time into them. You might just have inspired me to do so. I have the Multipick ones found in the Christiana Palmers set. Ever since I watched a video from LPL on a half diamond failing to have a high reach I kind of steered clear. Might be why deforest is so popular? Stay tuned lol.
@PETEfromPA yeah man last night I was fumbling around for almost an hour switching between three different diamonds half, sml, and LG. Then finally I thought of this short, pulled out my offset groove, which is an offset diamond with a little notch cut out of it to grab the pins basically, and then about 10 seconds.. Pop!! And it was because the diamonds had them right at the threshold of the sheer line and as you said just can't reach high enough but that offset groove.. SON! It's the real deal I've got another stronger version of the same thing coming in as well as an offset diamond and offset half ball going to give them a try as well. Tension rings... Your thoughts?
@@ricksanchez3204 Been tempted to get one but worried they get in the way. Maybe one day. Tried one yourself yet?
@PETEfromPA I'm currently waiting on mine from multipick and I will let you know my thoughts for whatever the thoughts of a noob are worth LOL I really like the concept in the idea though and I'll save you some time and research, the multipick tension ring is the only one worth buying. No matter where you get it from they're all relatively the same cost but none of them have the versatility or abilities that the tnt-20-v3 have so am I very humble opinion I would consider that to be the only tension ring on the market. And again I am a newbie but I'm very good at researching and referencing things and I'm speaking on behalf of the opinions of all the professionals out there. Get it made in Germany at worst it's only a $10 higher difference at best you're paying no different than you would for any other brand. Southord who I absolutely love has one but the pegs are fixed in place so there's only a few locks that it would really work on and then the others that are spring loaded you're stuck with the size rods that it comes with and if it doesn't work on something then too bad where is multi picks TR can fit into basically anything. Again I'll be back in probably a month to tell you when I think about it oh and another important thing to note that the real cool black tension ring on the Southord site says it's spring loaded but it's not, I mean yeah it has springs in it for the tension process but spring-loaded generally refers to the tension rods being able to be moved for different size keys they are fixed in place for a fact. Also if you have a discord or some kind of community channel somewhere I'd like to be a part of it you should put it out there more / create one

Id say schlage is a bit more annoying than kwikset, the C keyways don't leave as much wiggle room for your pick as a kwikset/weiser does, though the slightly unusual E, J, and K keyways are a bit more open. Gotta find your preferred method of tensioning is all
@@kilowhiskyforge4337 Totally agree. Schlage is tougher I feel too. Not sure if I ever had a Kwikset with security pins. Have you?
@@PETEfromPA You actually be amazed with some more recent hardware, my first 3 locks were kwiksets off a regular house door, learned to pick on them, eventually gutted them and there was 2 spools in each, like in 2 and 5 or something. Never noticed and im not a great picker, bad tolerances is what it is, schlage is tighter
Why would a closet door lock from the inside?
@@TinManReloading Long story short, it’s to keep unauthorized people from getting inside. Everything is locked at that place. Thermostate, cabinets etc….

Ya know interestingly enough… every door I’ve encountered where a reach around tool would work… also had a gap big enough to slide my phone under and put the selfie camera on a literally watch what I was doing on the otherwise
Yes, thanks for making the video! Crazy how not even CI made videos showing how the hook is really supposed to fit properly under the door. And then how to actually grab the handle when through. Also I was going to remove the end of the cord from that overly thick plastic part and just tie it off with a triple wrap and a double overhand style slip knot. Won’t come off and no added bulk. I’ve been working on modifying mine (or making a new one with some alterations) that would allow two different cords to be attached, one to snag the pivot like what the hook was supposed to do easily, and the other to do the same pull down handle release motion. Just need to bend an additional curve at the tip of the existing looped and that turns to the side by about 4 inches. But a slow curve so you don’t have trouble sliding under the door. (If you use the knotting technique instead of having to use the bent looped end that’s there now it’s quite easy to make) Then attaching the first cord to the end of that piece where it only had a threaded on eye loop barely bigger than the wire size (I have threading tools in my workshop) and a small piece of scotch tape to hold it back at the original 90 degree bend down to the existing curved eye you see now. So you first leave that new cord loose in the hand. Then once you’ve slid the normal operation of the tool to the side to get the main cord up to the handle pivot in between the handle and the door, then you pull the other cord which rips the scotch tape and pops over to dangle from the tip of the new added section. Now you have a cord on the opposite side of the handle pivot which just has to be somewhat taught to keep the unit from sliding off as it turns the handle. I figure you’d just pull a little tension on that aux cord and then step on it with your shoe before using both hands for the normal operation of the assembly. Any thoughts? (Love modifying stuff to make them better🤓)

Would you be willing to say that with this set/profiles that, the need/use of half diamonds is unnecessary? I haven't got to use a diamond yet but the fact it seems as tho it would slide in like a key intrigues me. Btw love your stuff keep it up friend
@@ricksanchez3204 I used to use the Half Diamond a lot when I first started. Didn’t have many options then. Haven’t really done much lately but I do find it interesting CI is making a Deforest Half Diamond and that Christina Palmer includes Half Diamonds in her Multipick set. I’ve always wanted to try one on a dimple lock. Reminds me of a Dimple Pick Flag. I watched a video by LPL and he talked about the Half Diamond not having enough reach. I’ve had luck using them to Zip open locks too. Just another option maybe….?
@@PETEfromPA awesome man I really appreciate the response I went ahead and just bought a couple of diamonds I mean two peaks is so cheap why not it's worth the exploration right? But I'm still torn on the reaper kit I watch the entirety of your review and I really want the turning tools+ #1&2 pick profiles, but given how much I dislike the medium hook I feel like I'm going to really dislike the three hooks in the McNally kit just because there's so much deeper I don't like the medium hook cuz it's a deep bend and I have a hard time not hanging it up
@ Don’t give up on deep hooks my friend! So funny how you wrote that. Literally was going to make a video today about not being discouraged to go deeper! Wish I did now, and that settles it, going to make that when I can. Deeper hooks can really make a job a lot faster and frankly less frustrating. Have you seen the video series by the not so civil engineer? He shows a few mods that he has made to the same type of tool. Really good videos.
@@DirtyDean-l8u I have not but thanks for letting me know. Definitely going to check it out. Thanks!
@PETEfromPA i was inspired to build something similar to what the Not So Civil Engineer built and after playing with it a while I starting thinking that what might need to be considered is a re-design of the the basic tool itself. I'm trying to figure out a way to thread the end of it 🤔 so that I can put specific tools on the end for what ever type of situation you might find. Crash bars for instance. He made a hook modification to the end of a UDT so that he could operate the crash bar. Thats what got me thinking about threading the end and makes specific tools.

@@PETEfromPA i haven't officially started a picking channel yet but plan to soon.
@ All good. My eye will be on you inventing some mods and making millions hehe.
Im glad someone finally made a video about CI's under door tool. Okay so the thing about the grappling hook is you can definitely get that under doors. The door has to have a certain amount of space obviously but if you start with the grappling hook tip facing up, you can work it through and slide the rest of tool with it. But your right, its definitely not easy to work it without seeing. Infact its something i would only use if i had my UDT modded with a Borescope. Its just too hard to tell whats going on without seeing. You probably wouldn't need it in a real scenario with a door that has a window. The keyback is pretty thick too, but im pretty sure CI wants you to buy this with their air wedges. Alot of people use these tools with those anyways. One tip about the grappling hook is if you have the right kind of pliers. Try to open it up a tiny bit, just enought to make it easier to put on because its no joke hard lol also find some more tighter heat shrink wrap and double it. The ones they give you dont hold on tight enough
