Hadestown (2017) - Lovers Desire Interlude
On the sea of life Trav'lers all are we At it's mercy, to and fro Where it takes us, there we'll go. Tides may ebb and tides may flow, yet steady stays the sea I'll do what I believe, and pray, prevail. I'll stay fast to my course, succeed or fail, And give my faith this night To this, the sea we sail. GRACE/ SAILORS: On the sea of life Trav'lers all are we At it's mercy, to and fro Where it takes us, there we'll go. Tides may ebb and tides may flow, yet steady stays the sea SAILORS: On the sea of life GRACE: I'm at home with the wind on my face! SAILORS: What can be, will be. GRACE: I've a place as a woman upon the sea! SAILORS: Sheltered in the brine's embrace GRACE: And this moment in time... SAILORS: Constant is the change we face. GARCE: ... Won't be taken from me! SAILORS: Waves may come and waves may go GRACE/ SAILORS: Yet steady stays the sea.
Thank you. 🙏 I am obsessed with this show and I cannot find the music anywhere except your playlist❤❤❤❤
Gráinne O'Malley died 1603 401 years ago she was infamously bucking gender roles and presentation, for herself and for her people’s survival. Tell me again how gender and equal rights are a recent fight?
2017 version is the best one fr
I will never get over 'gather 'round, you vagabonds' ♡♡♡
ugh so much better than the broadway epic i. i love the beginning of broadway epic i but the actual song? its not as dreamy.
I think its meant to sound more... unfinished ig in the broadway version. But I miss 'gather round you vagabonds' with all my heart 💔😔
Thank you for uploading. I love this song!
I love the desperation in this song better than the other version. Both are great, but the lyrics in this one and performance are so powerful. I mean like, "Take this music and the memory of the muse from which it came"?! That's freaking good writing.
THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING
Reeve Carney you have 24 hours to respond
So grateful for your uploads!!!
Omg thank you for uploading the full soundtrack, it's so hard to fine and it's such a beautiful musical.
Tonight I was bingeing on videos from the Islington 2016 concerts (as one does when one needs to hear Hadley sing), and your posts of the complete Pirate Queen soundtrack popped up! What a wonderful unexpected treat. Thank you!!🥰
This makes my heart feel full❤
YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER i loved this version so much more rhen the Broadway and was upset when most of the songs were missing 🙏🙏
Is Damon Daunno actually Orpheus ?? T_T his voice is pretty ...
yes
This version of the show is my favorite. It’s not as polished and it’s themes are so cyclical of the seasons of a relationship. The green spring of new love, blooming and transformative, then the hot summer of passion and ease, revelry and stargazing, then _the fall_ it’s starting to get cold and the food is ready to be harvested, but if no roots were planted and cared for in the summer, they won’t be enough to last the winter, the sunny days grow shorter and the cold nights longer and longer. The winter. The cold. The isolation. Did it kill all that was green? Or will there be something left when spring comes. And then _spring comes again._ either as new love, or a second chance, over and over again. The cycle of love and life.
that's such a good analysis

I love how all the instruments dance with each other here
Reeve's version is so much better, both vocally and lyrically
oh god this song is just so gorgeous. Damon Daunnos voice was just so perfect for Orpheus

I listened to the 2016 version of Hadestown before the Broadway one even came out. I prefer Eva as Eurydice, but I'm sorry Reeve, Damon will always be the real orpheus in my heart.
I love their dynamic the best
The way I feel about both versions is this one is the one that convinced Persophone to try to bargain with Hades. The sorrow here is so pognient. The Broadway version was the one that made the workers rise up.
I love the drums
"when i look at you i am" this is my joker moment
Honestly, Damon Daunno is my favorite Orpheus. Hands down. His ability to convey such raw emotions using nothing but his angelic voice. What a fantastic performer. The main reason why the Broadway version will never top the 2017 recording for me.)
yes i agree, damon will always be the real orpheus in my heart. but, i really love Eva as eurydice.
@@tatertots214 i LOVE Eva's performance too!)) Best part of the Broadway version.
@@naastyaaaaaaaaa i'm also a bigger fan of the 2017 hermes than the broadway hermes, but both are good
TRUTH
@@tatertots214 there's no "real" Orpheus.
It’s interesting how they changed the song for Broadway , it always confused me how Persephone likes this sad song when it’s literally about the masses rising up against nobility. (Populist / communist anthem)
I mean Persephone also hates what hades is doing. So I felt hearing his rallying cry gave her the push she needed to stop drinking and really stand up to hades
Does anybody have the bootleg?
The Broadway ones are all on yt (just look up the "hadestown slime tutorial"), but the 2017 version.. I don't think it exists. How I wish someone could find it..

In this song, Damon's Orpheus is shattered with the grief of losing Eurydice, whereas Reeve's Orpheus is angry and desperate and still willing to fight the system that took her away. I love both, but the differences are fascinating
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
i will never be over "are you always this confident?" "when i look at you i am" i love the broadway version but this part we were robbed of.
Broadway robbed us of so much
I CANNOT with his voice. According to Anaïs Mitchell's book "Working on a Song" , in the end Euridice kisses him, says "That's good!" and Orpheus replies "It's not finished" and kisses her again. ♥
That's so cute! I love how it can be interpreted as them talking about the song, as well as the kiss!
To me Damon Reece and even Justin had different perspectives of Orpheus and prove to be different versions. I wouldn’t say any of them did it bad, sure some changes to the songs weren’t liked that much but all three knocked it out in their own way
true! :D
2:39 from this moment on I can’t listen to this without crying. His voice sounds absolutely broken. This song is beautiful.
i wanted to see him act this out, if i can get goosebumps from the audio alone, i'll be somersaulting all the way to hadestown
But this isn’t on the live album
This song is my favorite. Epic iii is arguably the best song but there's something about Orpheus' grief that makes this song hit harder. As someone in love with The Arts some of the lines hit very close to home. He lost her and therefore his inspiration and he would never be able to use his talents and passion the same way again
this is my favorite song too :D
I think I prefer this version, idk some people say the nytw version is too choppy and a draft but for me that's what makes it work so much. It's a story that we sing again and again of course it isn't going to be a perfect one. Myths aren't completed stories, most of them don't make sense. And I think this version is more poetic than OBC. I still love the Broadway version but for different reasons and I often find myself listening to this one more.
Also epic I is supposed to be like a draft of epic III Orpheus is still coming up with this song so it’s not gonna be perfect
@@littlesongbird7881 yeah! But like let's be honest Orpheus saying "it's not finished" when he just sings epic III to Hades is so iconic because how the heck that song is a draft???? imagine the final version Also btw I see your comments everywhere especially in hadestown or great comet videos
I totally agree.
also Hermes isn't holding Orpheus's hand like he needs helmet
Very interesting look at things, which I never really knew I agreed with. I prefer the Broadway version because it’s a complete, more cohesive narrative, which I can connect with more easily. But I think it’s super interesting to see this version as the more mythic version of the tale, one that feels a bit more incomplete. I wonder if that was the intention or not.
I miss this show
I think, and this is just for me, it's better in this version than broadway, for three reasons. One is that in this version, Orpheus begins prideful. and that is his flaw. Euridice falls in love with him partially because of his confidence and pride, but then realizes it will be the death of them both. And in order to get her back, he has to learn to humble himself, beg and sing of his devotion, and the devotion of others. His skill only gets him so far, he has to risk everything, recognize his failing, and focus on Euridice and Hades. And in the end, he still fails, and we don't know why. Was it pride striking again? Which is also SOO greek myth, they sure love inescapable hubris :') And the other reason, is that in this one, Orpheus has such personality. in the Broadway version, he's such a wilting daisy :P he needs someone else to talk him up, and his flaw is less certain. What, he's too focused on helping everyone? He's too selfless? It's just more clear for narrative and characterization, to give him that pride. Also, it feels like Euridice has more agency in this one. She's called a survivor, Orpheus admires her for something other than beauty, and he tells her he'll make her feel alive as a little flirt. In the broadway one, it feels like her feelings are being dictated to her.
I think the reason he fails is because of how he's pride and the trust they had in each other was broken. That's what make him doubt himself, he know he already failed before and he also doesn't trust Eurydice anymore like he used to (I think this is show in Promises, they start talking about the promises they both broken and it seems like they resolved the issue but the seed of doubt was already planted )
I like the London version (watched a "slime tutorial" of it), it has the same lyrics as the broadway one but Orpheus delivers his lines with more confidence and the Hermes lines are said by him. "I'm not like any man you've met", etc. And it also keeps the "i'm working on a song that will bring the world back into tune" part, which to me makes so much sense considering the setting they're in. I love that part and I think it actually fits his idealist nature better. "he could make you see how the world could be", after all. love the lyrics and performances for the original show as well, though. a real gem! specially the two "come home with me"s lol and him calling her a survivor and that he sees someone stronger than him. wish this was on spotify
If I may, I remember in the original myth it was his lack of self confidence that was his fatal flaw. After all, he was a singer and poet born to the king of a warrior-prizing city-state. That may have been changed for this, but that’s all I have to say
I was listening to both versions of Apple Music and realized the song just wasn't what I remembered. Then I realized the original cast soundtrack didn't include this and I was only listening to the Broadway version. This version of the song is just so much more raw and beautiful.
I think the only reason i prefer the Broadway version is the missing songs, but now im indecisive again xD
aaaaaah
i honestly love both versions of the song, but the broadway version sounds so much more uplifting than this. you can really feel orpheus's grief. i absolutely love reeve but i wish the incorporated more pain into the broadway recording
I mean they are doing two different things. Reeves version is meant to be more uplifting
@@kenetabansi5016 but it makes no sense why his song touches Persephone's heart and she says "you'd pity poor Orpheus" he doesn't sound very pitiable in the new version
Why didn't they include this on the official live recorded cd?
What i wouldn't give for a video boot of this cast. uuuuugh!
ikr! WE missed out on so much!
SAME 😭😭
This is probably my favorite version of any of the epics
