Can I do the same thing with DPDT switches for 2 banks of LED lights. How would I wire this
Hi David. My Driver's door glass shattered on my Vito on the way to Ireland for Christmas I picked up another glass at a breaker - there wasn't any chance of getting a new one this side of Mid January. Couldn't work out how to fit the glass until I watched this. After which it was blindingly obvious that the rubber seal has to removed first😂 thanks!
I pulled him up on this he told me it was pouring with rain I replied you are a liar and you are now a criminal for removing peoples corespondents out of their letter boxes Now my MP god help us
Hi can you add a link to where you got the 2way switch, it’s not in your info page
Hi David! Did you end up filming how to control the lights with a 2 way switch AND a dimmer? i think in this ep you say that will be covered in the next, but cant find it. I find your way of demonstrating the wiring excellent.
Great video and thanks. For your lighting circuits when you cut the jumpers, are the lights connected to the middle prong or is the wire from the fuse box? I think you initially connecting from the fuse box to the prong at the top, but there was a note during the video that said connect to middle. So is the wire from the fuse box going to the middle prong or is the wire from the light going to the middle prong?
Merci beaucoup ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi, thanks for the useful content. Is it ok to ground to the chassis? In the manual for multiple 12v dimmers it states that it specifically requires grounding to negative of the battery. I find this an odd distinction as it suggests you need a fully isolated leisure wiring system which grounds to negative only, not chassis. Which is against safety regs. I assume you would just ground to chassis and not opt for an isolated leisure system instead just ground everything to chassis…?
Always a good idea to ground to the chassis. Grounding back to the battery via the chassis is also found, as well as grounding directly back to the battery. I've done it this way, because I don't have a chassis on the display board and I'm also not sure of the final layout for the lights in my van.
No surprise there then, labour liars
I asked MB parts for a new one cost $3,800 AU LOL fuck that
Thats ridiculous! How can they be that expensive! Really sorry to hear that.
@@shed52 Yeah its just a mark up, most of mb gear is made by bosch etc so you find out the part numbers and by direct
Good advice.
It's the easiest 450 version to work on the engine. There is a CDI with A/C.
On the 451, the oil and filter are changed differently, there is no need for suction because it has a drain plug and cartridge filter. On the 451 CDI, the procedure is the same.
Thank you, I really appreciate your video ¡¡ from cancun -mexico

About to tackle this job. This video will be really helpful. And love how you got the young lad involved. Great stuff.
Its not to bad a job, feels a bit claustrophobic under there but a job well worth doing. Julian is my autistic son, we have filming days on Wednesday and Saturday and we both enjoy it. Many thanks for the feedback.
Don't suppose you remember the Torx socket size needed for the bolts?

Hi David, Thank You for all the videos. I tried to fix my daughter's 2013 Smart Fortwo Passion, the car turn on, all lights are on, heard the clicks but the car won't start. We replaced the Alternator, Starter, and Battery that still experienced the same issue. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Hearing the clicks sounds like the fuel pump is working. Is the car turning over? Do you have a diagnostic tool/meter? They are really easy to use and cheap on Amazon. This link takes you to Amazon. The tool is about £21. They are easy to use. Will take a look.
Excellent video. Thank you! I have a 2023 Sprinter 144". Have you by chance got a way to do this for switches in 3 locations WITH a dimmer at one location? One in the front or just behind the driver's seat, one on the B-pillar by sliding door and one in the back. I would do this for 3 light circuits. We call it a 4-way switch system in the USA. Any help with this would be appreciated. TIA🙏
I’m not clear from about 8mins on, after you say ‘now what I want to do’ about five times! Then it’s hard to see when camera is giving a side view. So, what did you do to make the main switch only switch off the board except for the two switches?
I'll take a look at the video over the weekend. Thank you for the feedback.
I kinda wish you had your episode number as first thing in title. It’s quite difficult to find an episode when at the end of such long titles.
Would this work with LED strip lights? Also your dimmer switch is 4amps, my LED strip need a 3amp dimmer switch. Would the 4amp version be ok?
Great video.
Confused. You said stick to parallel…did you mean series.
yes, my mistake.
This exact problem happen on my Daughters I have pushed it back in for now but I see online a different style of clip to what you use so does that matter ?
There are different types. Mine has now lasted three years. Changing the system looks like a big job, but the clips are a great temporary fix. Let me know how you get on.
Good video guys
Thank you, Julian is starting to get involved not in mechanics but wanting to be on TH-cam.
Good idea to check and thoroughly clean all roller mechanisms and tracks while you have everything disassembled.
The van has done 180,000 miles, just doing the checks helps keep it on the road that little bit loner.
As you are going to all the effort to disassemble the entire damper, I expected a thorough cleaning of all components prior to final assembly.
I have the same style switch panel and was wondering how to replace one of the switches with a momentary pushbutton, the same way you did with your two way switch, thank you so much for helping me understand how to do this
Hi David, would this set up with the on off on switch work for a electric water valve? Could I have two switches in different locations that could open the valve? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
I got crack rubber or foam on my bottom coil spring, i dont know it is, no noise from the front shocks only too soft, but i try 150km no body roll
Not an old bump stop is it?
@@shed52 i think so, i dont know about bump stop since japanese car no bump stop, do i need to install with universal bump stop?
@@mydc2200 A bump stop would help protect your car from access travel of the damper.
If the first switch is in the center (off) position, will the lights come on when the second switch is in either of the “on” positions?
might have to run a live to both the on positions. Otherwise, you would have two off positions. If you have a diagram of your circuit would love to see it.
Sorry just add, are you using a switch with three poles on the back?
turn the music down.
will do, one of my early videos. Sorry for getting it wrong.

Hi David, question if I may? With the 5 switches, could you use 1 for the isolated in the board instead of being separate? Use one for the lights as you have done in this example. But then use the other 3 to act as switches for the below 3 components (cigarette/voltmeter/USB)? So left to right: - Isolater switch (panel on/off) - cigarette on/off - voltmeter on/off - USB on/off - light switch (on/off) Thanks!
Yes, that would work, and a good idea. I used a key-type isolator switch for added security. On my final van build, however, I will be sure to use your suggestion. Great idea.
When the motor turns nut wont start can this be the problem?
obrigado pelo vídeo, excelente conteúdo e muita dedicação, muito agradável de ver, cumprimentos de Portugal.

Thank you for presenting this information in such an easily ‘digested’ manner. I am trying to figure out (adapting) this exercise to control a light function from THREE locations (switches). Hey David, thanks for the helpful video! Just wanted to call out that 1.25x1.25 for your 25% rule = 1.5625, and to get the 1.875 is 50%. I call it out because I started questioning if I knew how to do math lol. A google search on the topic helped me realize this (and comforted my worrisome ego on our multiplication skills), and thought it might be helpful for anyone else brand new to fuse sizing when trying to come up with the 1.875. At least I think?
Thanks Amanda, and its helpful to have your in put and will amend my next video.

Incredibly helpful video, workign through this now and this is the simpliest explaination I've found! Did you end up integrating the dimmer into the 3 way switch? I didn't see how the dimmer switch fit in with the 3 way functionality.

I've read it's possible without the lowering bolts. I don't see how. Chaffed my arm trying. Are the lowering bolts straight forward to use? Very helpful video. Had my LHD 2001 Smart 450 since new. Thanks 👍
I've heard of some mechanics cutting holes in the firewall or using a lift. The lowering bolts make it more accessible for several jobs including that middle engine mount. It's still difficult, but completely changes ride quality. Do need to jack right up and support the engine, then each bolt can be replaced while supporting the weight of the engine. Then lower carefully making sure no pipes or wires are stretched or binding. They do make the centre moun that much more accessible. I think most Smart Car owners suffer from chaffred arms, everything is so compact.
Hi David In bit of a mess. I should have waited for lowering bolts. Undid right X frame and rear right mount, lowered engine. Still couldn't get centre mount bolts out. Given up for now. Flipping centre mount bolt won't go through. Seems to have dropped a inch down and won't go back up. Any ideas thanks 👍
@@MrHoppy40 I guess you have the engine supported with a trolly jack. I used a small scissor jack on a brick to line up the bolt hole, placing it near the centre engine mount. When I got close I used a screwdriver to hold in position before putting the bolt through.
@@shed52 yes a trolly jack under sump. I'll try scissor jack. I have those lowering bolts on order. They've been upgraded now. BGS 6642 come with a wrench. Would undoing that X frame be at fault for bolt not lining up? Felt like something moved when I undid it. Only can be learn. Thanks 👍
@@MrHoppy40 Not sure if undoing the X Frame is a fault. Should release some of the tension. Once the lowering bolts are in place you will notice the difference. Are you in the UK?
Extremely easy to follow and excellent with the example. I'm wiring up lighting inside my trailer and want a light switch at the rear and side doors, this is perfect.
Thanks for the feedback Harry.
