Welcome to Lumière's TH-cam page. Here you will find a library of videos produced by the gallery in support of our artists and exhibition programming. We hope you enjoy and share these videos.
Lumière offers one of the most diverse, photographic programs. The gallery features the work of over 75 master photographers, including vintage and contemporary prints. It’s image collection is the largest in the Southeastern United States. Subjects vary from landscape and portraiture to abstractions and architecture, in black and white as well as color. Regular gallery exhibitions are complimented by extensive educational programming. This includes lectures, panel discussions and film screenings, discussing artists, their work and periods in the evolution of photography. The lecture and panel discussion series is typically held in partnership with major museums.

Rex Naden - Landscape Photographer
Rex's passion is landscape photography. He is a teacher at the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite Valley. Having spent decades in the semiconductor field, Rex now directs his interest towards Composition: the refinement of great images based on the sum of their elements. Lumiere is proud to represent his photography.

You capture the the way life was in your pictures. They all are great but the ones with a big snow on are top notch in my opinion but i like them all now. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us brangs back a lot of history and some great memories and not so great memories. Not enough is shown if Cole’s color work on big kodachrome sheets. They push the limits of color and reality with their intensity and saturation.
Hi Tony! Very nice narrative and array of Vivian's works! I never realized it until now about Vivian being alive for 1 1/2 or 2 years after her photographs were auctioned! Did she live far from her storage shelter? I wonder why she didn't know that! It took John a long time to figure things out so he never made it to meet her before she died?
Yes I just watched the show this morning and it led me to want to know more about David Hayes work. Extraordinary!

Hi Nicholas - The black fingernails are due to the use of Amidol as a developer - Brett and Cole both followed procedures Edward had established decades earlier. A side effect of exposure to Amidol are the black fingernails. Tony - Gallery Director at Lumiere
Travise Huley thank you I thought so. However it’s all over his hand not just his nails. Thanks for chiming in
The developers for paper and negatives Brett/Edward/Cole used were actually staining agents--amidol and pyrogallic acid. And touching both will leave severe staining on your fingers and hands. The amidol will turn your finger nails black after two or three uses without gloves. But the pyrogallic acid will also stain--but starting out it is a more medium brown, but everything gets black over time. (I know, because I also develop the same way). However, I am careful to rinse my hands quickly after every use, and so I no longer have much staining.

He was such a master of photography. The original photographic mathematician.
As a photographer, i started 'doing', and only years later I began to get acquainted with the great masters. Getting to Mr Bullock was a tortuous road that took me from Ansel to Weston, Imogen, and the rest of the F.64 group and then to the likes of Sally Mann and Bullock. His photography, since I put my hands on one of his books, has been an inspiration, and it's a great opportunity to watch an interview with him taken almost 50 years back
6:30 how would he have added that other dimension to his photos? what's the technique behind adding that mist?
