Mandingo News talks to sound system followers about reggae music.
Remember the first black radio presenter on radio in the UK was Steve Bernard. His show was on BBC Radio London on Sundays in the early 70's. It was called Reggae Time. David Roddigan and Toney Williams took over the show late seventies.
What all these people fail to recognise is everything they are talking about was for the black audience Rodigan helped bring Reggae music to the massive mixed audience so everyone benefited from bigger crowds which bought bigger financing. Give the guy his credit. And Castro Brown was a self serving character.
The only reason these man are hating Rodigan is because he is white fuckin racist pussy dem
Rodigan put in the work he works and works you man a some bad mind blouse and skirt gweh
Dutty Rodigan nah conscious man! him use reggae to forward himself seen , him don’t even have speaker box !! fire go burn pon him 🔥
grown men a fussin around
Reggae music BUSS A ENGLAND BEFORE RADDIGAN CAME TO THE FORE . SO GIVE THE TREND SETTERS THERE FLOWERS 💐
Real Real talk me BRETHREN CAUSE I USE TO SET UP FOR THERE CLASH ONN JBC . NEVER HEARD A CLASH WITH THEM ONN BBC .
If you never see what a bad mind face look like just look at Castro Brown face
Quiet yourself. That was my family.Yuh too bamind.
@@JayNubiTell them sir
As you look in Castro Brown face you see nothing but bad mind and envy.
Rodigan blew up and now just pure jealousy
This generation needs to go back to the foundation and write clean lyrics
Yes Mandingo I never raspect dat man Ras Joseph Lion music. Brixton. Now living:. North Clarendon. JA. Keep up the good works. Alfa Amega North London. Played Coxson Jah Shaka. R.I.P. Jah Love
What Castro brown is saying is the truth they are not hating people why is it when black people talk the truth you say they are hating you are a bunch of sell outs.
Exactly this, it’s as if we can’t stand up for we things
Talk is cheep and action speak louder than words bad mind is real.
Rodigan did exactly what he was supposed to do like anyone who is setting up a business you study the market look for the opportunity and jump on it when you see it he already said that he was the best presenter on the radio so he must have been doing something right this breada just sound bitter and resentful. Smh
Correction: Mikey Dread born 1948, not 1954. I knew him personally. Bless.🙏🏿
Only one Castro Brown .Nuff man cant walk a mile in you shoes....RIP ...
Times have changed, and a lot of people have got left behind, and they have gotten bitter, I never hear Rodigan boost up himself, people big him up, because he has a love for the music, and the Jamaican people and culture, so what if he has made a living from the music, If Radigan was no good or if he did not carry a good vibe he would not have lasted this long,
Rodigan accepted an accolade, he did not praise himself, because self praise is no recommendation, yes we made the music, but as usual we never value what we have, until someone else pick it up. You guys are bad minded.
What a bag of rubbish instigated by Mandingo, Castro even said that none of the other presenters could match David Rodigan and as a former presenter i totally agree, he is the consumate professional with a wealth of knowledge which is all i want, nothing more nothing less, why do they carry on like Rodigan owes them anything, what did Tony Williams or Daddy Ernie ever give, the answer is nothing and they shouldn't be expected to give anything. Don't they realize that the promotion Rodigan gives Reggae music because of the platforms he is on? Mandingo needs to stop this false narrative by getting people on his platform who agrees with his point of view. Castro didn't even make any good points, he'd start off making a point then end up saying 'an all dem ting deh' Absolute joke, bad mind is definitely active!!
Harry Belafante was not born in Jamaica
I watched a David Rodigan interview and the interviewer called him a king of reggae music, and he replied 'I am not the king of reggae I'm just a humble selector who's loved the music for many years just like all of us' I think these boys are just speaking out of jealousy to be honest. Rodigan has never pretended to be anything he's not. And a legend he is. You can't take that from him.
Castro brown chat bare shit, respect and love but u man still live in 1970. Wanna talk about colonization, practice what you preach. You man look like fool !!
Pure jealousy over rodigan
That guy does not know what the hell is talking about, the very first Jamaican to recorded a song in Jamaica in the 1950s was Harry Belafante . You guy need to get your facts straightened out, because you don't know nothing about the history of the music fraternity,ok.
Thank you brother mandingo for uploading this video exposing David Rodigan, you should had papa levi on this video ram jam capitalism
Colonial money control everything and has been used to to take and manipulate everything from our culture.....white privilege gave them a mighty position of power everything we do has to go through their channel ....the controller of the narrative can change anything....we assisted in selling out and giving them undeserved acclaim in return for money
Poison
Stop the prejudice
This man has ventured where so many of you so called yard man has ever been
It's not your music,it is for the people
I wont hear all this nonsense. Just sounds like a ton of bitterness. So are some of you saying that Rodigan set out to deprive black artists on purpose? Absolute rubbish!! The man went into dangerous places alien to his own culture and won over the people. Anyone who's seen or met him will know how genuine the man is, and even more so, how much he loves this beautiful, hypnotic and underrated music. This is classic behaviour for the genre: become a global phenomenon, then rip ourselves apart!! If Rodigan set out to do anything it was to unite colours, peoples and reggae lovers.. If he also made money, good luck to him. I'm still annoyed that I didnt invent the wheel, but that's my own fault...
Sometimes the truth comes out at the unknown time but it comes OUT, BIG UP CASTRO BROWN, I KNEW ABOUT NEW NAME STUDIO LONGTIME KNG 13, CASTRO DEH BOUT LONGTIME, RIP MICKEY DREAD AT THE CONTROL OUTTA JAMAICA LONGTIME RADIO DJ TALK DE TALK CASTRO
Rodigan butty man
Always about the shekels with you people
The chutzpah of Jamaicans never astounds me They come to England because they it own government hates their music, they come here and throw shade at Rodigan because he is White and has the best dubs Racist little bwoys
Listening to this brother named Castro Brown it is the very 1st time I ever heard of him, what I does realized of late. That some Jamaicans want to claimed that they, are the original in the reggae music industry which is not true. The main man 👨 in Jamaica 🇯🇲 who really started the searching for singers in Jamaica, his name is Vere John. He helps to developed the United States music industry, he left Jamaica in 1924 to New York city and started a. Talent contests show, and returns to Jamaica before Castro Brown ,Bob Marley, Alton Ellis just to mentioned a few of them was born. He returns to Jamaica in 1939 and started a talent contests show, where he discovered the Wailers, John Holt, Millie Small, Alton Ellis just to mentioned a few of them. I remembered that man 👨 in the 1960s useto have a show on RJR radio station, named the Vere John opportunities show. He died in 1966 who is one of Jamaica pioneer of the music, plus before the music industry became recognized. People way back useto played Mento music I born come see, my uncle see my uncle playing music. He played Banjos and guitar 🎸 and he was born in the 1920s,and most of who is trying to say. That they were the 1st it is not true at all, I born come see Chris Blackwell who useto lived in Jamaica from a very young age. He was born in London and moved to Jamaica 🇯🇲 with his parents and, got involved into the music industry from early 1960s. Becaused I remembered when Millie small went to England 🇬🇧 by Chris Blackwell with this song, my boy Lollipops 🍭 in the 1960s. I born come see Alton Ellis who started to sing in 1954 according to what I read, until I was big enough to know him.Man like Radigan came in the music industry very late in the 1970s to early 1980s, when he and Barry G linked up. That is when the reggae music really gets 👌 gone globally, it is one of the biggest radio show in the world. People from all over the world useto tuned into the Barry G and Radigan radio show. People in Jamaica who would setting up to tape the show, it was the biggest show on both radio stations in Jamaica 🇯🇲 and around the world. I am not trying to take away anything from Castro Brown, but Radigan is the biggest reggae man in England. Although man like Alton Ellis, Bob Marley, Desmond Decker, Toots and the maytals,Millie Small, John Holt, Dennis Brown, just to mentioned a few of them. There is not one of them really making an impact on the reggae music industry, as Radigan. I spent some times in England 🇬🇧, been to a few places. Visited a few west indies clubs, also went to a few pushin ,so I know what am talking 👄 about. My father 👨 went to England 🇬🇧 in 1957 and useto, tell about the Jamaican music there. When I heard this guy 👦 talking about studio 🎙, I don't believed he knows about King Tubbys. Becaused he useto have one of the best studio in Jamaica 🇯🇲,I don't believed he knows that King Tubbys useto operating his own radio station from his studio 🎙 in Waterhouse . I know King Tubbys 🤴 from 1968,because I was living very close to his studio 🎙. But there is nobody in Jamaica 🇯🇲 cannot compared with King Tubbys, he is one of the founder of dubs he and Lee scratch Perry, and a producer named Errol Thompson. If Castro Brown goes to Jamaica and asked about Radigan, the whole Jamaica knows about him. Also in the United States 👍 where he played into some of the biggest sounds clashes in the world. I don't believed that Castro Brown really knows how big Radigan was, in Jamaica, the United States and around the world at all. Radigan becomes bigger than Chris Blackwell one of the foundation member of the reggae music, not because. He is not a Jamaican, but people in Jamaica really knows, about Radigan than him. Radigan is so popular in Jamaica 🇯🇲 like a king 🤴, he can go anywhere in Jamaica and. People would be lining up to greet him, he useto go all over Jamaica to interview singers. Most of the singers in Jamaica knows Radigan, well the younger generation may not know him now.Becaused he is not running the radio shows anymore, but if he should started it up again. Not even the BBC radio station in England, would never get as big as Radigan at all. It would be much bigger now, with the internet services programs, but Radigan is huge 👌 worldwide phenomenon radio man.Casto Brown can contact me,let me give him some really good information 💁♀️ about the reggae music industry. The very 1st song that was done in reggae beat was Larry Marshall from St,Ann Discovery Bay, Queen Hythe in 1968 Nanny goat 🐐 version. I know that man 👨 in person, I know his mother and father, and most of his family 👪. His uncle useto lived in Stockport in England 🇬🇧 going to Manchester, or Liverpool. I know all those areas ,so Castro Brown can talk to me. As I said I useto lived near to King Tubbys Hi-fi power sound system, and know a lot of the artists them. Going to Prince Buster 🤴 record shop on Orange street, Randy's by North Parade just to mentioned a few of them. I know the great Duke Reid long before Coxenne, sound system. Castro Brown want a lot of teaching about the reggae music industry, because there is a lot of things he does not know at all. Anyone want to challenge my comment, they are very much free to do so with relevant facts. Not friction, I know most of the original singers them from in 1960s,also 1970s and 80s ok 👌. I strongly believes that Castro Brown cannot comparing himself with Radigan at all, with due respect. Although Radigan was not born in Jamaica, but he became an house hold name between. The older Jamaicans during his time between him and Barry G,on the radio show. So I would tell Castro Brown and, some of Jamaicans living in England 🇬🇧. That Radigan is more popular than them in Jamaica 🇯🇲, and if they are returning to Jamaica and they are afraid. To go anywhere according to what they heard about the violence, they can asked David Radigan to accompanied them and. Nobody will ever interfering with them, that is to show you how the man 👨 is well beloved. If anyone of you does not believed me, I am going to asked one of Jamaica popular singer,Barrington Levy and. Hear 👂 what the man will tells you about David Radigan, how popular the man 👨 was in Jamaica 🇯🇲 back then ok 👌.
Just because you haven't heard of him doesn't mean it isn't true. Tanya Stephen's mentioned the studio and Dawn, that is what brought me here.
Blair Boyd. You never have any thing good to say about Jamaicans. You hated PETER TOSH. You hated BUNNY WALLER 🐰 🐇 😤..
This man is talking crap because he never know Castro Brown i know Castro from back in the 70s, and he was in reggae music from long time before that.He used to run a club in Croydon called Georgan where my brothers band use to play he gave them their name Reggae Regulars who was the first to release a number 1 hit on Greensleeves record Where is Jah. Castro Brown was a well known and loved bredren to all of the black people of Brixton who had anything to do with Reggae music,so where you come from trying to belittle his name i dont know Rodigan must have paid you or maybe you are Rodigan undercover trying a ting.If you are a black man you should be ashamed of yourself for this asault on a fellow black man in order to promote a culture vultre like David Rodigan. RIP Mr Castro Brown that's what happens to all our great black men some white man take away thier legacy and claim it for themself but not this time. Big up youself Toney Brown too Castro son.
C, BROWN was one of the hard working promoters in the UK, no doubt about that and he following the footsteps of likes of the great Count Shelley,Fat Man and many others that pave the way from the early 60s . Nuff respect to CASTRO BROWN, I can remember when CASTRO BROWN pland the UK tour that features DENNIS BROWN, GREGORY ISAACS 15,16,17 ( Female vocal group) THE BLACKSTONES GLEN SOLEY CASTRO, hire coach for the tour and we got on as one big family, my unforgettable experience that I remember to this day, time just slip away from from LIFE: RIEP CB. 💯💯💯 I was saying the same thing that coxsone said for years since rodigan link up with Barry G from jamdong 💯 fraud!!!!
rodigan david robberman is like christopher columbus he has fooled most black people if rodigan loved this black music so much and black people with all the money he has made how comes he has never sponsored any black business or promoted any black companies all so rodigan never owned a sound system he still cannot dance to the music /rodigan is just a fuc---g clown and these stupid jamaican artists them still big him up like he is something special,he is just a crook.
One .
True true reggae stregga a poor people's joy dem fe leave it alone nah call no name dem a thief
Wow, did not know that Rodigan was like that. It is good that the truth is coming out
I live through this era. Rodigan started with Steve Banard and Sir Tony Williams before getting a job on Capital radio. I disagree that rodigan was better than tony Williams. For me Tonys style of radio sold records. Especially Rockers fm top 10. God rest your peaceful soul Sir Tony.
Too much alpha males that's the problem especially in the black community in London and Jamaica coxsone i know where you coming from but look how many reggae artists in jamaica got murdered even the great King tubby. Jamaicans too red eye with each other ie jealousy and can't organise properly it's no wonder rodigan step into the scene
All I have to say how long has Bob the prophet Marley been telling you and its just now chor
