How to carve a simple leaf dish.
มุมมอง 1.8K16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
This easy to carve dish in the shape of a leaf is so fun to create. You can choose the leaf shape of any of your favorite tree. Or, as I did, just make something up. This one is made out of pine, it soft and easy to carve. However, you can use any type of wood you’d prefer. Grab some oak, carve an oak leaf, maple, a maple leaf. You get the idea. Have fun and go out and carve.

Just like the comfort cross I recently did, this one is a simple wood carving that any beginner can create and enjoy. If you don’t have all the power tools, hand tools will work just as well. Watch this and give it try. You can do it. Thanks for watching and go out and carve.

This found hunk of wood made a great looking tree spirit. I did not plan this one out, the wood showed me where to carve. I hope you enjoy watching this one. Remember, go out and carve.

Thank you! Cheers!
Nice job! That looks awesome!
I'm glad you like it
@@kedespo I carved a white oak leaf tray from a piece of purpleheart. Pretty hard wood, but it turned out nice.
@fouroakscrafts7240 that would be beautiful.
The detail is awesome. I've been collecting driftwood for years and am starting to get into this art. Thanks
Thank you Ken. I love driftwood. So much character in it to make so great tree spirits. Good luck.
Nice video carving ❤❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome spirit
Thank you for the kind words.
What was the thickness of the wood you started with? Thanks 😎
This was one inch thick pine. You can certainly use any thickness, it just will give you a thinner or deeper dish. Good luck, hope you give it a try.
Great job on the video
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful! I just bought some of that finish and I’m going to try it on a book I’m carving. Thanks 😎
Wonderful! You will love the way it looks.
Great job! Thanks 😎
Thank you. And you are welcome.
What cutting blade did you use nice work BTW
Typically I use a number 5. It’s a Pegas modified geometry blade. Also, thanks much.
Very, very nice comfort cross! I've made these out of different exotic woods and given them away to friends and family. A great project.
I too want to make some from olive wood or some other exotic wood. Just didn’t have any on hand.
That's a beautiful comfort bird! Enjoyed watching your process.
Much thanks. It was fun to do.
Great job, Ed, Love it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome carve, Ed. Love the detail you put into it. Subscribed and be back to see more of your work.
Thanks for the sub! And thanks for the kind words
Ed, is that a coarse flame burr or the extra coarse flame burr? Whoops! I re-watched it and you did mention it was the extreme flame burr. Looks good Ed.
Glad you figured it out. 😂 Are you going to try this one? You made the comfort cross. This one is much easier. I can send you the template.
@@kedespo i plan on it. I tried one with a couple knives, wasnt too bad for a beginner. Sure if it isnt any trouble.
@@kedespo got it, thanks. I dont have a scrool saw, so using a coping saw.
Can we get a few more beginner type videos like this please? As much as I like the more advanced carvings, Learning these is good too.
Sure thing. I like these too because these force me to slow down and be patient. Do you also like the tree spirit videos?
@@kedespo I did. Though I was unable to comment on it at the time.
Good job. I like how it shows the wood grain.
Thank you. That’s one of those things you really can’t plan. But I agree.
Awesome!!!!!!!!@
Thank you sir. Much appreciated.
Nothing comforting about iron age ignorance
I would love to hear an explanation of what this means. Thanks
i've been wanting to carve a small cross, and i have some walnut aswell, I love the design of this and am going to try to follow!
You can do it! Take your time and sand it forever. It least it feels like forever. Good luck.
Fun video Ed! I'm going to mention this video and your channel in the next episode of Wood Carving Weekly.
Awesome and thank you
@@kedespo My pleasure Ed!
Very nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
@@kedespo one of these days I will try something bigger.
Cool wood spirit. Love the finish.
Thank you!
That's a real cool piece Ed. Loved the video. 👍
Thank much Jim! It was a blast to make.
Ed, amazingly jealous of your talents!! You could have been a great plastic surgeon!
I wish! lol. Thank you so much for watching Curt.
Very Nice, how big is it?
It’s approx 2” tall by 1@ wide. About.5” thick. Thanks Tim.
@@kedespo Thanks Ed, I think that would be better than 5/16 thick like I tried, was afraid it would snap, but it didn't. Oh yeah, I used pine, because that is what I had laying around in the scrap bin. LOL
Really enjoyed your video, I have a full tilt woodshop and can make everything from a leather wallet to a cherry dresser, but the simplicity and beauty of the worry cross was just fantastic.
Thank you for that. This is why I love woodworking. There is something for all skill levels (and types of tools each one owns) that can be done. Also, I love that fact that the entire woodworking community supports each other.
Very nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
@@kedespo i think i mentioned this before. You inspired my to make these for some extended family members who recently lost a family member. Thank you for this timely video.
So glad you did it. I hope it helped you too.
Good stuff!
Thank you.
Very nice, creative genius.
Thank you very much. It was a blast to make.
Another coll piece you created.
Thank you sir.
Looks great I will give it a try ❤
Thanks. It can be frustrating on a piece this small, but so satisfying when you finally finish it. Thanks for watching.
@@kedespo I will add them to my woodspirit bird houses
I made a few small carvings and couldn’t do it very safely
It is a super slow process. And you can’t really run the dremel at full speed for fear of it running away from you.
Definitely a unique carve I haven't seen before.
Thanks. It was a challenge. But fun to see it take shape.
eeh oui même en France je vous regarde ! je suis en Savoie, et je debute alors je bouffe de la video... il est important que la sculpture reste une détente! it's good video
Bonjour et merci. oui, c'est tellement relaxant.
Looks great. What small carving bits do you use?
Hi there Roger. Thank you. Here is a like to my most favorite set of bits. These are so good for detailed work. a.co/d/5EVH4FR
@@kedespo Thanks
Hey. Thanks for the mention. Keep at it looking great and carry on
Thank you sir for the inspiration to start power carving. And thanks for the compliment.
Nice job bud. Like the colors😎.
Thanks 👍. I was worried but so glad they worked.
Welcome to the fold! I love Jordy Johnson for years. He’s such a real guy’s guy, all due respect to some of the many talented carvers I consistently watch on TH-cam !!
I love the feeling of family with all those I watch. All so inspiring.
Inspirational!! Well done, you make it look easy!
Thank you very much! Give it a try, I believe you can do it too.
Vous avez trouvé un fameux personnage dans ce morceau de bois . Beaucoup de style et très beau , bravo.
Merci beaucoup. On dirait que c'est quelqu'un que j'aimerais connaître.
Wonderful
Thank you! Cheers!
Le résultat final est vraiment extraordinaire.
Merci pour les mots gentils.
Beautiful.
Thank you! Cheers!
What are you using while filming? Phone? Camera? What are you using to center your device while cutting out the tree on paper?
I am just using my iPhone to film. I have a lapel mic attached. Some shots are handheld while most are on a stand. This is the stand: Elitehood Overhead Phone Mount... www.amazon.com/dp/B09M9KXBFC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The background color gradation is perfect. How did you manage that? The sun circle rotation is a great trick. I was hoping for a rhino, but the giraffes work very well also. Great job!
Thank you so much! The paint is just craft paint. The trick is to to keep it wet for easier blending.
That's pretty cool !! Did you like working with the Masonite? Have you ever tried using a spiral blade? I like them on projects like that
I do use spiral blades, however, I find them a bit harder to control. (It’s a me thing with low patience). I love the Masonite. First time using it.
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Gotta sub to my old scout leader!
Thank you my friend.
That looks wonderful I carve wood spirit bird houses but nothing as detailed as that 👍
That’s awesome. I’d love to see those
