It sounds like a robot

I use to have that top load washer when I was like 1 or 2 years old but now we do not have it anymore because it won’t spin

Doesn’t look like the start relay is working since it starts as soon as the door is closed.

In my opinion these are one of the worst washing machines ever made, these were notorious for having issues such as bearings, mode shifters, motor, or out of balance. Even the newest VMW style ge washers are better although not saying much. Ge wasn’t good since the filter flo. The “T-model” GE’S were actually built very similar to HydroWaves but with a transmission and an AC motor, they did clean better but reliability was about as bad as the HydroWave, as well as similar issues related to the bearing, the transmissions often leaked and went bad, so did the motor. The Amanatags or the Norge built Maytags were awful too, those were notorious for bearing issues, pump failure, or just premature failure. The Frigidaires were not good either. The whirlpool/Maytag direct drives were amazing tho. Maytag neptunes we’re notorious for bearing failure, the neptune was a complete junk machine. HydroWaves are by far the worst washing machine ever made in the USA.

Better than GE HydroWave but not saying much

No offense. But these were the worst machines GE ever made in my opinion. My mom’s HydroWave only lasted like 5 years before it gave up the ghost. She replaced it with a Samsung which sucks too but it is holding up better than the HydroWave ever did. She also owned a chug chug GE which failed due to a sock getting stuck in the drain pump which a huge mistake.

I hate having to rant on H.E. machines but HydroWaves were awful.

I've come across of one these Whirlpool Surgilators. The machine is not agitating. I'd like to know what the fix is before I take it apart?

Quiet-by-design?. CHEAP BY DESIGN. HydroWaves are absolutely terrible and cheaply made. The “chug chug” ones were cheaply made as well but at least they got your clothes clean and were a bit more reliable. The filter flos tho, the awesome. They were built like tanks but unfortunately they are frustratingly rare to find now.

Revisions can actually make a model completely different. While this model was probably always a HydroWave. But a lot of the “chug chug” GEs actually turned into HydroWaves before they got discontinued. Yes, HydroWaves. Even the WBSR3140DWW turned into a HydroWave before getting discontinued.

I have this exact machine and only had two problems with it in the 8 years I've had it and both times it was a lid lock failure th-cam.com/video/yT44uQ9FLKI/w-d-xo.html he is a video of it but I don't run it with the lid open I only video it to show the cycle lights progress during the cycle

Neutral drain is much better at getting rid of sand and other sediment and eliminates strain on the motor! I had a 1992 Maytag with spin-drain. When I was at the beach and washed towels that had sand the sand would be in the washer for a few days even after vaccuming it out and wiping it out of the tub. I had a 1973 SEARS KENMORE and never had that problem with sand since that machine has a neutral drain.

I have this, first the normal cycle wouldn't shut off years ago so don't use it now it has a burning smell. I bought it used so am curious how old the Legacy models are and should I bother getting it fixed or buy a new machine. Sigh, my old Maytag lasted 20 years. Haven't had this half that time.

Sounds like the high speed is lean or governor spring is too weak.

I'm gonna have to say it (get triggered all you want) the DD is my least favorite washer, why? Because I had owned a whirlpool thin twin DD back in an apartment years ago, worst washer I've ever used! Went off balance in pretty much every load we did, clothes did NOT come out looking clean, and it was loud. I am not a fan of vintage washers (unless it's like a Unimatic or a Kelvenator) I wouldn't own a DD for a golden clock even if I wanted to. HE for me all the way!

Live in a 55 and over community and we have 2 of these Whirlpool commercial washers in the office/club house with this agitator but they are white. Hopefully I'll be able to get those agitators when they get rid of them one day.

I believe they're labeled centennials now. Or at least they were later on. It's really a rebadged whirlpool direct drive. At least whirlpool saved maytag.

I DONT understand it and its driving me up the walls.... i just wanted a normal washing machine that i can control .. this one i guess has a mind of its own ... i dont like it ... But thank you for sharing this video maybe i will learn to gwt along with this machine .... great video
