Yoga Explained: From Ancient India to Modern Life
#advaita #vedanta #sarvapriyananda
Todays passage discusses the concept of yoga and karma, primarily focusing on Swami Vivekananda's teachings in New York during 1895-1896. While yoga can refer to one of the six orthodox schools of Indian philosophy, the text focuses on yoga as both a process and goal of spiritual life, with two key meanings: concentration and union.
Vivekananda introduced a new understanding of yoga through four approaches (yogas):
- Bhakti Yoga (devotion)
- Jnana Yoga (knowledge/wisdom)
- Raja Yoga (meditation)
- Karma Yoga (action)
The text then delves deeper into Karma Yoga, explaining that all actions are karma and affect our character. Karma includes not just physical actions, but also mental and verbal ones. The goal of all yoga is knowledge - not external knowledge, but the discovery of knowledge within oneself. This knowledge is about realizing one's true divine nature.
The passage emphasizes that while pleasure and happiness are temporary, true knowledge is permanent. Both pleasure and pain, good and evil, serve as teachers in forming one's character, with misery often being the better teacher. The text suggests that all knowledge exists within the human mind, waiting to be uncovered.

Pranam Guruji. 🙏 I find that the underlying intension is so critical. The Seed. This is the deepest secret that only the Self knows. For example, some people may enter the spiritual pursuit to escape the condition of their life ie someone enters monastery for safety (food, shelter etc). Or some wants community and friendship. Then this is what they get, not necessary realization of Self. If someone studies spirituality with the intent to be able to teach others so they can pay their bills. Then they become a teacher that enables them to pay their bills, not necessarily realization of Self or enlightenment. Although many can pretend but nobody can lie to themselves because the Self always knows the truth. But this can be part of the enlightenment process. The aspirant will need to become dissatisfied and wants more - beyond the initial desire. So it is step by step like stripping the onion till they find nothing in the end except awareness, consciousness and Bliss. Enlightenment is achieved 🙏

Post enlightenment there is no "you" anymore to suffer. This is a subtle understanding which takes a while to grasp as it seems absurd to the logical mind of a seeker. All I can say is stick to these teachings of Sarva, Ramana, Nisigardata, Robert Adams, etc (jnana) and it will become clear in time and you understand truly what is meant.

People can contact me for more information about all these. I sort of figured these out on my own already. I have to perhaps thank the strength of my Jupiter to be able to figure stuff out. Information is just Mercury. But to truly able to piece the information and understand it deeply and truly and make the connections needed and to find the exact holistic perspectives from all the various information out there requires the strength of Jupiter. All these claims are from my own understanding and not quoted from anyone. That is why with weak wisdom/ Jupiter, even with the good teacher explaining it as properly as possible, one cannot understanding it (wisdom) and just perceive it as information (Mercury). With a strong Jupiter, even with poor information and explanation, one can figure out the wisdom on their own. But what is being said as the concepts of the different paths here, I didn’t exactly understood it deeply as it is in the past. It was just teachings and information to understand for me then. Now I truly am able to see the logic as to why such teachings are being made. This understanding cannot be transmitted differently with words and it’s an internal understanding. That is also why people talk about how gurus of the highest order (in this case being enlightened) often have to figure it out themselves and by going within etc. It’s all an internal understanding (Jupiter is exalted in Cancer - which shows internal knowing).
