I need that kit
chpmotorsports.com/ Check out CHP Motorsports for the kit.
They are such a unique motorcycle. I love that design. Hi from Brisbane Australia 🏍️🦘
@@C.A.MARSUPIAL-ys6tl I totally agree, very well designed with cool looks. Thanks for watching from down under!
12 minutes to see a side cover removed . KMA
The guy that owns it needs to learn how to bring it up on a compression stroke to get a solid, first kick start !!
Is this standard removal for all 150cc scooters
@@unsunghero3168 For most of them yes.
@socalmotorcycleservices2876 thanks
Just to share some info… on the acorn nuts… Honda only put one on the lower left stud (cam chain side) along with a copper clad washer to prevent oil leakage due to that stud’s hole being the oil gallery path feeding the rockers and cam in the head. Original Honda engines used common nuts on the other 3 studs, the two top and the lower right (clutch side).
Good to know
Is this for sale ?
@@RichardZumbo Unfortunately it is not for sale. He is going to keep it forever.
First “Like” for you on this one. Still own my all original Candy Gold K0, just like that one, built 4/70 and purchased new for $339.00 when I was 13-yrs old. Glad I never sold it !! The gas tanks are 0.7 gallons.
Thanks for the like. I love the candy gold, such a great vintage Honda color. Must have been like a quarter of a gallon left in my gas can.
@ The dealer at the time couldn’t get a Safire Blue one in as what we ordered (my patents and I). Those bikes were selling like “hotcakes” back in the 1970s and there weren’t any in the showroom. So I settled for the Candy Gold and overtime got to liking it better than the blue.
@ I know that blue and I like it a lot but I feel the Candy Gold aged better. Lots of blue bikes around but Candy Gold is so 70’s cool.
These are all the stock cables?
@@nathanfrancisco7148 Yes, all the stock cables and lines were used. I would change the brake line though but the customer didn’t want to till later.
Thank you for the swift reply! Appreciate the informative video. 🤙🏾
I go help out in your shop once in awhile and hang out if you were right here in the town around where I live.
@@ToddSloanIAAN You would definitely be welcome. I have many friends, most of my customers become friends, visit and hang out. Where do you live?
For those who may not know, the cross-head screws Honda used are NOT Philips Head. They are JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) and to avoid tearing up the screw heads JIS screwdrivers and screw bits are available in sizes #0 thru #3. A tool manufacturer named Vessel has screwdrivers designed to hammer on like an impact driver. I’ve removed engine casing screws (#3 JIS) that needed using a 4-lb “beater” to remove them and the screws were reusable with just a little jeweler file work and Scotchbrite polishing of the heads.
True. I mentioned they are JIS in the video but I guess I should stress it more.
I Have to agree with thedavies8754.. I went down that rabbit hole of twin cam tensioner scare stories after picking up a 2001 roading TC 88. I pulled the cam cover off and found tensioners to be in New like condition Bike has 10k on it. New gasket, cover on and new fluid. will recheck at 20k. which I will probably reach. Thanks for the video.
why did you need to take the exhaust off? looks like the plate would come off without removing the pipes
@@ZoeyTheGSP Exhaust removal isn’t necessary but it makes it easier to see. I thought I mentioned that in the video.
Sweet old scrambler.
I absolutely love it. It belongs to the same owner of the Trail 70 I am working on in my latest video series.
What does that do for HP?
@@gphilipc2031 Great question! I will be covering that in part 3 but I will tell you. The original motor makes 6hp the company says this kit will double the horsepower to 12. Tune in to part three and I will explain how.
@@socalmotorcycleservices2876 Sounds like a worth it upgrade.
@ That’s what I am thinking.
Use the twin cam tensioner scare stories to get money off. Checking the tensioners is the easiest job ever. Spring inside tensioner is dead easy to check without removing the plate. 25k on my tc88 and no notable wear on either. No point not replacing the inner cam bearings if the cams are out. Not much point putting the old lifters back in and who keeps the stock cams if they have done the job this far. The oil pump might as well go with the new cam plate going in. Stock push rods are fine and as the breather is a service item at the same time as the fuel filter, might as well take the wheels off and fit a new alternator with the front pulley and trans output oil seal. So remember, never take the plugs out unless you are serious about keeping it. My 1999 FXDL is on my channel, it's not for sale.
No red located on the bolt?
This was probably one of the very best Hondas ever made
@@lawrencebecht660 I wholeheartedly agree!
The service manager at my local HD dealership, who I am personal friends with, said I don't have to worry about them until 30K.
That’s a valid opinion, I would definitely check them at 30k but wouldn’t wait any longer.
@@socalmotorcycleservices2876 Will do, I have 15K on now.

Try squirting some oil in the cylinder and take the compression test again. If the compression goes up at all it’s the rings, if the compression stays the same it’s the valves
@@beespoon Thanks, it was a bent valve,
Happy days. Got to know when to shut it off but got Lucky it wouldn't start more like.
Of course my '99 TC88 has the cam position sensor behind the little cover. Obsolete sensor and cover so if it fails you have to get the later ecu module and delete the sensor and the rear cam sprocket with the raised ring.
chur bro thanks
When replacing the oil hose is it necessary to use a Oetiker. The Oetiker Clamp seems like a avoidable PITA when I could use a worm clamp or efi clamp. Came out the garage the other day to find a large puddle of oil under my 2016 48 with 43000 km (26000 miles) this oil line was the culprit.
@@YeahNahMaybe947 Absolutely not necessary to use the Oetiker clamp. I just use worm hose clamps.
Good to know! I’d like to replace my oil drain line as you suggest. Could you do a video showing how to route the new hose?
@@warriorways7741 Because of where it is it really can’t be filmed unfortunately. If you get under the bike you can definitely work it out. It’s pretty easy to follow where the line is routed. Just make sure you buy some new screw type clamps to attach it. You would start by removing the end on the oil tank first and you could always just tape some string to the end and pull it out. Then attach the string to the new line and pull it back into position but even that isn’t really necessary.
AFAIK, compression testing is supposed to be done on an engine at operating temperature. Also, sometimes a blast of compressed air around the plug, prior to removal, keeps possible crud falling in. No, bud. YOU make sure the wrench says "off" to remove the plug? Guy's a hack! 88 likes?
@@lucky8003 Thank you for your comment.
I have the same bike but my is clean and run better and it's stock
Cool
Mine is out the breather bolts
@@jodiehighroller9820 Oil from the breather bolts is usually caused by worn out umbrella valves in the rocker box.
Hard to listen to!
@@samhalsey5051 Sorry, it was filmed a year ago I have since replaced the mic.
What’s wrong with your microphone?
@@samhalsey5051 the video was taken a year ago I have since replaced it.
Thank you for this video, this will help me , Mine is more complicated, my 150cc ZN150T-24 ( Rebel, Rowdy Rover) has rear hydraulic disc brake , the drum brake is used as a Parking Brake, the Lever for using the parking brake is located on the right side of the fork tube housing
I am very happy you found the video helpful.
Where did you put the charge gauge? Retrospective generally puts it under the seat but with the spring seat you have you can't put it there. I have the same seat set-up on my scooter (spring seat and buddy seat) so I was wondering. I was also concerned about that plastic tub filling with water if you get stuck out in the rain.
Great info buck.
Thank you
I do get a lot of detail information and tricks from your step by step video, thank you sir
Thank you so much. Glad my videos helped.
Hey... So the size of the new hose should be a half inch? Sorry for my ignorance, I´m not a mechanic, this is my first sportster and I have that problem... Thank you.
I use half inch, the important part is that it fits the oil tank fitting.
@@socalmotorcycleservices2876 thank you!
Have the exact same problem on my 02 wide glide with over sixty thousand miles, just waiting for the parts ,, you are right on the twin Cam always check them every 25 to 30 thousand miles and I did check them at around 40 thousand they look good then, But when over sixty came around that was it,, 25 to 30 thousand is a must with the older twin Cams ,, Thank you for sharing this Video,,
Thank you!
Thanks for taking my call from South Carolina,
what is the crank runout? And what did you find?
Bent exhaust valve.
thanx, That was a Fear of mine. I did my first stage 2 on my 103 with 20k. kind why i was curious about the runout. I read .03 and tehshoes where just showing tracks. replaced w/ Dual Fuelings. Nervous as all hell once complete.Replaced items: S&S lifters, Smith Bros adjustable pushrods and there " covers " , Star Racing 577 cams w/ koyo bearings. So far so good... read 200 psi both cylinder an I installed a T-Max ECU The most challenging part was TDC starting off seeing the cam chest marks was great. BUT leaking pushrod covers and retaining nut slips caused me to struggle madley to readjust correctly. Various videos where only partially helpful for the process. i know you could produce a better presentation. Thanx again@@socalmotorcycleservices2876"
I have an 03 ultra classic with stage 5 screaming eagle engine and tab performance Zombie Exhaust. I have 60,000 miles on it. My point is, they wouldn't have done all that work without changing the cam plate, you wouldn't think?
The must have changed them. I would think they probably changed them to gear driven or hydraulic atleast. Maybe next oil change you can pop the cover off and have a look. It is very easy to look.
@socalmotorcycleservices2876 yea, it was done at Killer Creek When it had 14,000 so I think so. It sounds and runs amazing. It's the 100th Anniversary so you think Harley went all out on it...
That sounds like a great bike.
I changed my tensioner shoes with Cyco gasket shoes for $12 dollars @ 118k miles. I also replaced the lifters, while I was in there. Everything else still looked good.
Have a 2006 street glide 20k miles. When should i be concerned with tensioners....?
I would check them out on your next oil service but I wouldn’t worry too much, it is still early.
what are the miles on this bike?
The bike has 60k miles on it.
rivnuts would be nice for the batterybox
Why not do a cylinder leak down test? Will tell you way more than a compression test. Just sayin! Lol.
We always do compression tests first and since the compression was so low there was no need to do the leak down test. Either way the head has to come off so we Just popped the head and the damage was very obvious.
Very good! @@socalmotorcycleservices2876
