A Search for the Best Gas Station Coffee
It took months for me to get my perfect doppio. I’ve had this one for 3 years and use it everyday for 3 double shots. Freshly roasted beans in the attached grinder, 17 grams in, 38 grams out in 18-20 seconds. I use Brash brand purchased at Whole Foods. It’s always good. I go through 4 bags a month. I have a dosing cup, tamp, etc. All the tools. Puck prep is important. Never use the single. It takes practice on this machine, but you will find that sweet spot.
Now the next they should do, is split the tumbler in half, so we get two halfs; as coffee cups, or two halfs; a cup and a carafe.
@@krimke881 ooooh that would be awesome.
So the Go + is basically the base model on a mug, and not a smaller version like the original? Seems nicer for more serious brewing/inverted
@@xenodrake4008 yes! It’s been great for inverted
Ok i love this! I’d love to know what bottomless portafilter you use???
Thank you!! I use one from Normcore, it’s the 54mm one for the Breville :-)
Nice, easy to watch review. What about a grinder which can typically fit into a normal aeropress - you don't carry that around?
Thank you!! I haven’t found a hand grinder that small yet (and am so open to suggestions if anyone reading this has anything in mind)! I use a Commandante c40 and pre-grind my beans before I leave the house in the morning when I take the whole setup to work. I put the grounds in a little jar.
Excellent review. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you so much! 😊
Amazing experience!! ☺️
OMG hideous loud music.
This video almost made it a whole week and a half without any rude or petty comments 😪 tragic
What kettle is that in the background?
Hario Buono with temperature control :-)
It seems better than I thought. Nice improvements over the original Go, except weight might be an issue for hiking. I guess I need a 4th AeroPress lol🤯 thanks for the excellent review.
Join the multi-Aeropress club 😂 I didn’t even think about the weight for hiking. It’s not crazy heavy but it definitely weighs my bag down a little, prob comparable to a hydroflask or other metal water bottle. If you hike with it, come back and let me know if the weight is an issue, now I’m curious!
I will! Every ounce counts when going up those hills 🥵

excellent review! also had no idea you could brew upside down, so smart!
Thanks so much!! 😊
Nice review, but I was hoping that you’d share your exact recipes while brewing the delicious coffee!
Recipes are posted at the very end of the video! :)
Can’t seem to find where to buy this one in the uk
Oh no!! I got mine off of their website. Hopefully they make it available everywhere soon, that’s so weird.
Coming to UK in August
Great review, didn't know they had a new one
Thanks!!
popped up on my recommended list, really nice review
Thanks so much! 😊
What coffee were you served at Sey? They say that Sey's known for their clean tasting coffee cause Lance's not quite a fan of experimental processing. Just wondering whether you experienced that. The clip from Sey had me drooling!
It was La Familia Morales Rivera, an anaerobic washed / natural mix from Ecuador. SO clean, really bright. I still think about it regularly 😅
This was an amazing video. Thank you for this help-sharing video :)
Thank you!!
really cool review!
Thank you!!😊
Funny.... I own the Original and Go....but I just ordered the Go + last night !!!!!😁
P.S.....they have a Fathers Day sale 20% of
I think you’ll love the go+! I never had the original but it seems like the + is way nicer quality.
Thanks to opening people s eyes about how terrible shitty machine the Breville Barista is.
Not my perspective at all- I think it's been a great machine, but was a very challenging dial-in as an absolute beginner. This video was more to poke fun at my many user errors than highlight any negatives about the machine (:
Wuuuuuuuuut? I'm gonna room temp bloom a cup right Now. I'll try cold tomorrow. Thank you for the video. Cheers!
Let me know what you think!
@@HappyHomeBarista Hey! I JUst finished my second cup like 15minutes ago. Im amazed. I used some OLD beans (thatt I really like) with a darker roast in the a.m. and I couldn't believe the difference. I don't know how to explain its like the bright notes that dull out with time came back to life! And that was me screwing it Up!! I use a mocha pot as my preferred method so the pour I just had (this was a medium roast), I layered the coffee and sprayed each layer of grounds. I've seen vids about spritzing beans for espresso but THIS is magic! Thank You so MUCH <3
@@elementonyoutube6556 I'm so happy that you had such a good experience!! Coffee can be magic sometimes (:
Interesting video. I wonder if the lack of astringency in the cup with the room temp bloom, isn't due to the bloom itself. Rather that the actual brewing temp ends up being lower due to the brew water being mixed with the room temp bloom water. This is especially significant with an aeropress, where the room temp water isn't draining like it may on a V60.
This definitely crossed my mind too; I'd be curious to see what the brewing temp turned out to be on the cold bloom brews. I feel like my aeropress brews always turn out best in the 80-85C range.
@@HappyHomeBarista The whole concept of Cold Bloom is one I find challenging on a scientific level. There's nothing special about cold water touching the coffee. The only 2 factors I see relating to cold blooms are either it lowers the Brewing temp, which you can test vs a cup brewed without a cold bloom, but lower water temp to begin with. Or the other option which if there's negligible difference in the final cup, makes more sense.. Is that were pushing extraction time, in that we have an entire brew take 4 minutes for example.. But lessening the time that the beans are in contact with very hot water. This theory would suggest that maybe lots of the good flavors we want extracted only need time (no matter water temp) + a short period oh Hot water which = great tasting cup with less astringency. Compared to a full brew with hot water. I hope this makes some sense. Just more questions in the never ending search for the perfect cup. 😊
just order a breville touch impress just so i don't have to cry! but i figure coffee got so pricy might as well it will pay for itself
Looks like u figured it all out. Im clearly late to the party, sorry! Thats awesome tho. =D
Don’t be sorry!! Thanks for the support and feedback!! ❤️
If this is your first set of attempts at pulling the perfect shot you should be INCREDIBLY Proud! It might just be the coffee talkin but enjoyed every second of your struggle.❤ I'm having issues dialing in the coffee I'm having right now but thats a story on its own. Just some feedback tho, you want to keep a gap between your grounds and the group head. Lance Hedrick released a video Recently on Dialing in thats Incredibly informative. He even talks about allowing some pre-infusion to help bring out some notes (not sure if in that specific video). But honestly, if you're enjoying the flavor at the 10 grind size, just stick to that. That last shot was beautiful, but looked a lil bitter cuz the color was falling too deep into the lighter spectrum. Color is a clear indicator of over and underextraction. Maybe with the 21g, at 10 size and cut the dose a bit Early if thats what you like? You should get less bitterness. If the perfect shot doesn't leave a good result, consider grinding to a 9, filling to 18g and dialing in from there. Please do not take my advise as a suggestion from any sort of wisdom tho. I'm likely a lot closer to your level of knowledge and experience. Truth. Happy Satruday!!
Don't feel ashamed or anything of the sort. Doing the same exact thing as you. Initially frustrated, but the more videos I watch, including yours, I feel much like I need to get more "sciency" to get this sorted. I'm 4:30 mins in...hoping you dial it in by 12 minutes. Lol
What was your recipe? Water:Coffee, and aprox grind size?
1:10, med-course
Uh oh…another rabbit hole to go down. I will be diving into this, very curious on this.
Let me know what your experience is like!
We love cold blooming girlies.
It’s all texture of milk. Just steam less if you are getting whiteout blobs on setting the base. Next that helped me is don’t pause after the base more than like a second just go right in and pour until you see the white come to the top. then move back and wiggle slowly for your Rosetta. Fast wiggles never look as nice. Steaming correct texture changes everything!
Which one did you like the most ?
My top 3 were SEY, Voyager, and La Cabra and it's SO hard to choose between them. Based solely on coffee, maybe SEY.
I see a linux textbook! WOW!
Don’t give me too much credit, it’s my husband’s. I’m technologically inept.
Keep it going… I am trying right now 😂❤
❤❤❤
Same same same, I can't figure out how to dial in this machine, coffe is always sour
Been there done that it was super frustrating. I had to walk away from it and try the next day and pulled up a chair and a big bag of beans. Writing everything down helped me to do a process of elimination. Then one day bam! Noticed I said one day. With every bag it's a different pull and if I get close I'm happy. Not chasing perfection.
double basket always - try a IMS nano 18g basket - mines works great using anywhere from 16g to 19g - puck prep - even grinds in the basket - level it - tamp evenly - should be much better
Hi - i think the first step is using fresh beans - try a dark roast with a good robusto bean in the mix - grind size is very important - i dont follow the so called Rules - i go by the end result - how does it taste to you - dont worry about that 30 sec etc, stuff yet - it depends on your taste - i see this video is 7 months old - by now your should be doing much better :)
That’s not true. I always time my shots when I get the first drop of coffee. I never start it when I push start and I get perfect coffee all the time. There is no right and wrong answer. You can time it however you feel comfortable.
Why are you using a single dose basket?? There are two very important factors when making good shots, #1 have FRESH ROASTED beans within a week of roasting is ideal and #2 use a non pressurized double shot basket...please stay away from the dual wall (Pressurized) baskets. Good luck
I'm sure you would have realised now but trying to dial in espresso shot with old stale coffee is a pointless exercise.
Thank for the recipe. ❤ very pretty young women.😊
Your accent is smooth are you from the US please if so which part?
Thank you! I'm from Texas (:
that's a pretty strong ratio - might be good for a colada. gonna try it.
Is there an advantage to adding in that extra 50g of water after brewing as opposed to using that extra 50g for the actual brew? Awesome video tho will try this recipe tomorrow
The extra 50g was a little too much for the aeropress to comfortably hold (:
