I can see both sides to this: OP is NTA because she's trying to give both children the brightest future she can, and seems ready to sacrifice to make good on this. OP's Family ITA, of course, but wanting to protect your own blood (and ONLY your own blood) is a basic instinct built into every human that has to be overcome, usually with effort. Plus, raising a single child is difficult enough, and paragraph (wo)man will attest to the friend coming over a lot to help anyway because a single person has enough on their plate with a single child, let alone two at once. And neither of these women have the support of the fathers. Everyone in this scenario will suffer: OP and her friend suffer because they lack the assistance of the families, the families suffer being cut out of the lives of the children, and the children will be brought up in a home with few resources and no family time. If I prayed, I'd be praying for everyone at this point.
