GT86 vs. GT86 heavy battle at wet Meppen (I lost)...
00:30 I overtake TH-cam: Reiswolf_86 who was otherwise on a cool down lap and about to leave the track. Instead he decided to pick a fight with me for another 20 laps :-D You can see him close in my mirrors until 08:20 where he was so fast (and close) through the chicane that I let him pass and tried to see if I could hang on with the roles reversed... At about the 15:00 mark, I start to loose him and some traffic seals the fate. :-) The track started out very wet but dries up somewhat during the video, we dicussed afterward that it seemed I had better grip in the wet, but I think Reiswolf_86 just had more guts as the track started to dry up. Well driven, Reiswolf_86!!! It was the highlight of the day and a lot of fun!

Meppen wet laps (I finally got new wheels!)

After a long break, I am back with a new video. Unrelated to my incident on they NBR last year (as might be the impression since I stopped uploading videos) I had a slump in motivation for driving for other personal reasons. I did, in fact, drive a couple of laps on the NBR again last year on stock wheels with 5 years old Michelin Primacy tires. And even worse, I had changed to stock brake pads...

Posting this as a warning to others, as you will see... I got extremely lucky and got away with a damaged wheel and a small scratch. A hair more to the left and the car would have been totaled. Stay safe!
Why 5 kph top speed difference?
มุมมอง 6165 ปีที่แล้ว
Just a comparison between two laps going up Kesselchen/Klostertal on the Nürburgring. The exit from Bergwerk was near identical, so why did I have 5 kph higher top speed on one lap? In the faster run (left) I also brake less and drive Mutkurve faster. The resulting time difference is surprisingly small at that point. Of course, I would gain more time after Mutkurve but the top speed before Mutk...

Nürburgring GP circuit, GT86 vs. Cayman GT4
มุมมอง 7615 ปีที่แล้ว
Okay, a bit troll title... the Cayman could have been driven faster, but nevertheless. ...and don't these cars have mirrors? A very confusing yellow flag at Kuhmo curve the entire stint. The marshaller didn't wave very enthusiastic after the first round and everyone seemed to only slow down a little bit the following rounds (myself included). Several apparently didn't read the rules and kept le...
Nürburgring, 14 overtakes in 5 mins (pushing my comfort zone!).

The entrance was empty, so I decided NOW was the time to go for a lap. A few others got the same idea... I'm not too keen on driving too close to other cars during tourist drives, so this was definitely pushing my comfort zone. But it was a lot of fun! The rest of the lap was spoiled by yellow flags.

Nürburgring BTG 8:49, GT86 (now with grip!) vs. Mini Cooper
มุมมอง 9095 ปีที่แล้ว
Great fun exchanging positions with the Mini Cooper. He was braking a bit early all the time so kept me back a bit, but fun nevertheless. :-) (And he kept up to the end where he blazes by after the Gantry). Otherwise, a few cars in the way at annoying places (high speed) where I otherwise need to keep the momentum. But all this is good as I think an 8:30 is not far away with a bit more courage ...

    This is a great explanation, thank you for doing this video! I have fitted one of these to mine (a HEL one but works the same way with a 92 deg C thermostat) have you noticed oil temps now take longer to warm up with this plate? Will not be a be problem in summer days/track driving but may be in winter. A little tape on the cooler would help that though I imagine!

    thank you so much, one of the best education videos i seen lately. so in my opinion no point in buying one with a thermostat. i think i will install this system in summer and remove it in winter. my cars water cooling system is weak so I'll need this in summer. just a question, will this sandwich plate slow the oil to reach the top of the engine ? and will it fatigue the oil pump ? any one with knowledge help us with this informations please.

    Good explanation! For everybody looking into manipulating the opening temperature: the wax elements from cooling thermostats seem to be pretty much the same, you just need to take them apart to get it out. Difference in diameter might be 1mm, 12mm vs 13mm. M22x1,5 should be the thread size of the cap.

    I am curious how much of a restriction that thermostat is even when the oil is cold, and if it causes oil to constantly circulate through the cooler even when cold. I have to assume that it is an unjustified worry of mine as these thermostats have been used for many years on race cars with no issues!

    • @hakonhalldorsson6673
      @hakonhalldorsson6673 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think it flows thru cooler when cold. If you think about it, when open, there is oil flowing thru the open thermostat to the other side of the sandwich plate. There, as before, it sees 2 possible ways forward, into the filter or thru the other line to the oil cooler. Which means there is the same pressure on each side of the oil cooler and so no pressure differential to create a flow. The only pressure differential is towards the other side of the filter, so it will only go there.

    Ok So Oil Coolers Are Actually Ran In Series With The Filter Correct? Not Parallel . So The Oil Cooler Will See Same Oil Pressure As The Oil Galleys etc?

  • @abdullaharif6455
    @abdullaharif6455 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your heel-and-toe is fine, but the timing is not right. You are blipping the throttle too early and you are not even changing the gear at the same time. And you change the gear and release the clutch after blipping. This is not a proper rev match, as by the time you release the clutch, the revs have already dropped quite a bit and the engine still has to take some help from the wheels and clutch to match its RPM to the new gear. You should blip the throttle exactly at the same time while moving the shifter to a lower gear, and release the clutch just after completing these tasks.

    I was going to buy this when I found this video. I have a problem with too high oil pressure on my car. I blew one oil cooler, and to remedy this I wanted a sandwich plate that have a thermostat like this one. Because I believe that the point with a thermostat like that will prevent flow to the oil cooler until the engine temperature was high enough. The oil pressure is higher when the engine is cold. I cannot understand the logic behind the working of this thermostat. Oil flows through the cooler and the filter no matter what? But flows a little bit less through the oil cooler when the engine is hot?

    Distractions are a bitch. Every time i drive the Nür with a passenger i always say: "you can scream, you can cry but please do NOT speak to me or make any weird movements that might draw my attention". Its amazing how a single word can completely draw your attention. Being an ex-Rally driver doesnt help, since "words while driving" are immediately interpreted by my brain as "directions", and my attention goes straight to the spoken words....its terrible

    You have no idea how much this helped me, I was in the middle of installing my 25 row Setrab cooler on my 3.7 VQ37VHR in the shop and this video enabled me to determine which side was the "return" oil line which was the line that needed to have the suction fan thermoswitch threaded into it. Making that distinction was the make or break of the project and this video made it happen. Credit to this man for taking a moment to explain this plate to its customers as we all know straight answers are hard to get out of companies who make a product and ship it out without any label or instruction whatsoever. Lifesaver you are, my friend.

    Thanks man, rather perplexing at first for me too. I wonder if hypothetically your oil cooler (the radiator part) were to get clogged would the engine not get any oil at all...?

    • @CatRacer1A2A
      @CatRacer1A2A 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If there was debris enough inside your engine to clog an oil cooler, then the oil passages inside your engine would also be blocked and clogged. This could only happen in a severely damaged engine where a clogged oil cooler is the very least of your concerns.
