Fuel savings in mind I kept it close to home on this one and threw the kitchen sink at them until the crankbait bite flourished. I do a lot of my fishing and videos on those less touched waters. Some places I walk my kayak a quarter mile or so and have no boat ramp. 3, 4 ,5 pound bass regularly. Few smallmouth -but they're always big. grateful for the energy to hoof it to those tougher to get to waters.
That's awesome! I am looking at a kayak now to get back into that. I had one for years and sold it when I switched vehicles. LOTS of bigs in the smaller places that take a little work to get to.

Son and I put in Emerson last Sunday for our tournament (second place). Nice to see someone catch fish under the bridges on the lower lakes. We spent all our time on West off shore.
I would do the same this time of year.
Use to live in Eldora back in the early 2002-2005. Fished there a ton with my son. Back in the early 1991-1992 I fished there a ton by myself. Always making memories with the son. Keep it up.

@@jeffhamelau6053 I'm with ya, looking forward to ice this year. That's about the only time little man will really focus on the fishing lol. Usually he is to busy wanting to swim.
Years ago when my son still lived at home we would fish that lake a couple times a year. had some really good days and some really not so good days. He now lives in the Okoboji area, and I go up there and fish bass tournaments with him. We never had the balls to see what's on the other side of the tube. I will have to keep the tube in mind next time I'm there. Back to searching your channel for indications of the general area you live so that I have a better chance of finding your honey hole. Don't worry.. If I figure it out I'm not looking to milk it. Just would like to have a new lake that I can go to with a chance of catching big fish once or twice a year.
@@jeffhamelau6053 Okoboji is the best bass fishing in the state. Hawthorne has em to, I had some mega bags out there last year. Be careful on the tube. It will scratch/damage a boat, I just deal with it.

What do you expect with a bare blank behind the receiver. Sure that's fiberglas? It looks like graphite to me the way the blank shredded.. Graphite breaks on the inside, glass breaks on the outside.

@@GabeGoluboskyFishing I 100% agree. Biggest one I've managed to get so far is 3 pounds but the pond near me I get consistent 2.5 pounders. I've heard of a couple places near me that have some beasts lurking, they just don't get fished a lot. I'm up in northwest Iowa by the Iowa great lakes/okoboji.
@@HookAndLearn Okoboji is best lake in state. Little tricky to fish from shore, but those bridges have some bigs that are accesible.

This was great! Gets me really excited to go to brushy creek. I just moved to Iowa from out west. How do you make the decision on what depth to fish for warm water species?
@@davidrobinson6861 Brushy is a great lake but can be very challenging. It is a diverse fishery compared to other Iowa lakes and has it all from depth,rock,wood, and grass. When picking a depth to start out there in warmer water I would look for the thermocline. That lake is known to stratify and the thermocline can move thru out the day. Good place to start is the North end of the lake.

I honestly know nothing about warm water species so this is going to be a stupid question but, we’re trying to fish above the thermocline in the warm water for things like largemouth bass right? Or are we trying to fish right at that transitional space between warm and cold?
@@davidrobinson6861 Im the opposite! This week will be my first river trip in South Dakota. Both, they will hang around the thermocline or anything above it. Its not impossible to catch a fish below, but its uncommon. They can go below the thermocline but wont hang out for long due to the oxygen levels. Idk what the grass is like at Brushy currently but if it has grass still Id start shallow in that.

@@AnticipateTheBite I will check it out for sure and much aporeciated. I am still relatively new and just trying to learn and improve. The 6.75 size will hit 10ft easily. The 6.25 size is closer to 8ft.

@@augiefishes Tournaments wont fish it so that will help alot, but I wont be surprised if it falls off next couple years. It seems like every Iowa lake cycles. Crappie are short lived so maybe its just a bad year class, but I think the ice fishing has already caught up to the Crappie. Not nearly the numbers there was a year ago.
