Getting back into this game after dropping off around Opus 8. Found my old Firion vs Emperor two player which im trying to use to coax people. I also brought the custom starter for X since i adore that game most.
Nice! Welcome back! That X starter is one of my favorites! ~Ryan
@TheStackFFTCG thank you. I'm replaying the game at the moment, and looking for players around my area to play the TCG. The Braska summoner deck looks very interesting.
One of my favorite cards! Braska and plenty of summons to just gun down the opponents board. Super fun deck! ~Ryan
Just wanted to say that I found out about the FF TCG today and came across the old video where you two sat down and played a game while explaining it. I really appreciate it and I'm currently watching through all your other videos as I take the plunge into this game. It looks absolutely fantastic and not a crime against my wallet like Commander in MTG is.
Happy to hear we’ve got another player! Really do hope you enjoy the game as it’s got so much to offer! Being as cheap as it is help to explore too. 😉 ~Ryan
Just commenting to let you guys know that your FFTCG content is appreciated! I bought the 2024 Anniversary box based on your recommendation, not really to play with other people but just to casually play with my brother and nephew (along with the Noctis 2-player and the FFXIII one) and we're having a lot of fun! Keep rocking!
Thank you! We both appreciate that! Now if we could just find more time to play that’d be great! 😅 ~Ryan
It's a pretty good tcg I like it and it is easier on my wallet than mtg
Is there a lot of support in your area? Cause where I love there is only 1 store that sells fftcg and it's not really that much supported
We’ve started a small scene close to us, but about 2hrs away is Raleigh and there’s a decently sized scene there. We have 2 stores in our area that carry product and then we do a lot of single ordering online. Square seems to really rely on the community to do the advertising and leg work to grow the game which is a blessing and a curse in my opinion. ~Ryan
Gg😂
Decklist for the tri colour deck?
Something like this: materiahunter.com/decks/Ly2MsFMYMF2d1ML6csXQ There may be minor tweaks i’ve made since the video, but this should be a good starting point. ~Ryan
I'm learning how to play with my friend who is a seasoned player and is very patient with me learning (my first time playing any kind of card game like this so I'm totally new to it) but this video is great! I've learnt so much and enjoy you guys explaining every step in so much detail! Thank you!!
Amazing to hear we’ve got some new player in the community! Hope you have loads of fun! ~Ryan
One thing worth doing with Witch in response to the LB Totto is kill Totto, then use the others to kill Relm and Witch, so they're not rfg
At locals this past week I did catch onto that. Although it still felt bad cause there’s so little recursion in the deck. Sniped off my own Relm and Witch and got rid of the Totto! ~Ryan
i call slow play on the mono earth player!
Judge!
Tough game for you, even though you nicely controlled Leo and Rikku. I think you are lacking: -Wateratsu (Leviathan cancelling autos) -Anima summon x3 (and Echidna to have that threat rolling) - without it any damage to key character (no matter if it is at the moment Leo, Rikku or WoL) is for naught, because of Rikku and Cait Sith.
I do like the Anima idea, i’m currently tweaking around and looking into some other color combos like Water/Lightning or even Wind/Lightning/Water.. really unique stuff that Witch and Relm set up. ~Ryan
damn WOL too strong. i was really rooting for the wind/water deck.
38:34 don't you have to select 2 of 3 only on resolution? So they'd have to respond on stack prior to your selection (WoL 5k ping before selection) otherwise if no response then you select 2 and they resolve?
For modal summons, you should still have to choose targets when it enters the stack.
I wonder why Witch didn't blast Rikku turn before Wol Enetered game - Rikku was the only card allowing WoL to enter board. I do not understand why Leo was killed? Player on the left says -" something 3", what does it refers to? This game should be called: how not to handle opponent's Rikku :|
Not exactly sure which point I didn’t kill Rikku (there two different spots) but truthfully it’s a lack of knowledge against the matchup. The earlier time it happened i could have 100% gotten rid of the 2 Blue Wyrms for Rikku and Leo. The later time I believe I valued Atomos too much to sack him. ~Ryan
@@TheStackFFTCG I have not played against that deck, but seeing that you got all your damage from multi element cards you start to wonder if this deck works at all without Rikku. I would like to see a rematch where you control Rikku through whole game. PS: it skipped my mind that Also Leo enables all multi element cards.
glad to see the water/wind deck getting more plays. was super happy when it was made. what do yall think of it?
I REALLY like it. It feels like it has just the right amount of storm to get setup quick, and then with Witch it adds a lot of removal in there which is nice. Definitely need to play around some more to find the right balance of top end (like i really don’t feel like we NEED Glaciela) but overall it’s a super fun deck! ~Ryan
@TheStackFFTCG yea originally I was asking yyt "what's new with crystals? We haven't had an update since OP 17." So that was the thought. I don't think it's necessarily competitive but it's a nice refresh for crystal decks. I know there are better witch decks but I'll probably stick with this one since it's kinda fringe
I included her for the Cid (FFBE) because it’s a meme that every opus, my locals figures out a way to put Cid into something and I think he’s just too slow. Like the coolest thing i’ve done is activate Lenna special in response to a Curilla or WoL7.. but even then it’s only okay. Definitely feel like we could take the current FFBE package out and maybe slot in something like Helena or just not even care about crystals.. Tidus + Tros is absurd and i usually am fine with the draw 2, the crystal is just icing on the cake. Could be a fun mind game to be generating crystals and just loom them over the opponent! ~Ryan
this is a great help since our shop just started catering FFTCG and hoping we could grow a community, I've been a fan of the final fantasy franchise and the artwork in these cards are topnotch.
Amazing to hear we have new people coming into the game! Glad we could help! ~Ryan
At 05:45 knights player coulda responded with ramzas dull 4 knights to break the shadow lord And 14:08 Sophie draws a card and hits a point of damage. Think you guys forgot the draw
Good catches! Should have definitely dulled to break the Shadow Lord, at least it would have helped keep the board clear to rebuild. ~Ryan
garland triggers twice from Curila since you played 2 knights…… 14:15
Ooooh, good catch! I missed that one again in a game at locals last week. Didn’t ultimately matter cause the opponent had O16 Cecil on the board. 😐 ~Ryan
Play general leo for this matchup and the wind match up
General Leo or the O23 Nelapa? 🤔 ~Ryan
@@TheStackFFTCG for your deck in particular, since it's the haste aggro variant of cat vi, you can actually go with Nepala.
Tested Nelapa out last night and thoroughly enjoy it. It applied an interesting type of pressure that sort of slows the opponent down, but only to an extent that they didn’t WANT to cast summons. Oscar kept ditching Amaterasu’s which let me have free range to go in. ~Ryan
do we have a deck list for either of these?
I have added the mono water CHARK deck list link in the description. If you decide to test it or make any changes let us know how it goes! thanks for commenting and we will work on posting the FF6 deck list as well. ~ Oscar
I added the FF6 deck list in the description. Super hyped for some new O23 cards! ~Ryan
locke and celes party attacks deals one ability dmg first before attacking to deal 1 more..
It does! I ended up mentioning a little later that we missed it.. 😔 ~Ryan
Yeah I 100% would've just searched the zangetsu and passed right there, because Cloud wasn't saving you, then pray for a Maina or Hooded Man EX so you can Ixion in their combat step. Unfortunately did hit the Maina EX on 6
Ninjas looking real good in O23! 😏 ~Ryan
This is actually my brothers deck. I'm pretty new to ninjas myself. I have played against them many times but not piloted them. After playing it, i now know a few plays to make differently for sure. thanks for the advice and commenting! ~Oscar
@@TheStackFFTCG Yeah new Edge, Maina, Yuffie, it's all looking good!
Just to be very clear, neither of us are good pilots of either of these decks! =D ~Ryan
was the yuffie paid as cost for edge? or ninja backup. left side clearly did not paid for one
Looks like Oscar paid for the Edge with Yuffie and may have thought that was a 1CP ninja backup.. Good catch! ~Ryan
using moogle S isnt one cast. Rosa cannot use her 5 cast ability.
I did screw that up! I don’t know why I counted that as a cast.. I think I tried to do that in a later game in the match again but caught myself.. Good Catch! ~Ryan
I was looking for something like this! Thanks!!
Welcome to the family! ~Ryan
Can I get deck list for Cecil, thanks
This is Leon’s current list, but the video may have slight changes: materiahunter.com/decks/ZWvCsfZExK5cO8Jfl1q0 ~Ryan
Looking at this Dragoon deck I come to a conclusion that Shinryu should either be banned or reprinted in some set. Absolutely every deck benefits from 3x and playing any less is not optimal.
I’m all for a reprint, please don’t ban Shinryu! 🥺 ~Ryan
Siren deck is really interesting. I'd probably put in more monsters if I were to make any changes.
I highly considered monster, but my worry was two things: 1- Monsters don’t provide any EX bursts that punish Aggro from swinging early while i’m getting setup. 2- Monster incentivize LB Shantotto. Not that she’s super prevalent anyways, but most decks are using 1 of her as an “Oh Shit” button. The game plan was always to slow down the Meta and allow me to take my time and punish boards that get too wide. With Monsters you can definitely still achieve that, it just didn’t fit my original game plan for the deck. ~Ryan
i want to know all the metas but already bought L and H almost complete already
to be honest. As a player since that era and played this exact same deck several times. Gesper remain banned is fine. Thamarturge can be unban. Argath is not played now there’s no reason for Thamarturge to remain played. 2cp to just discard a card doesnt do much now. especially with the amount of board clears and big forwards. And ixion being around just make this deck not able to rampant as much with the current meta.
IMO. Gesper needs to be errata-ed to non-multi OR 1 ice cost + dull OR you HAVE to discard one card (similar to Yunasleca) to be release from the ban.
I'm basically in the same boat. Thaumaturge is fine .. Gesper is not. I personally don't like erratas unless it's due to like a straight up translation error. If the card was meant to function how it's written, then that's fine but now we have to deal with it. ~Ryan
Thaumaturge should never *ever* be in contention to come off the banlist. Essentially being a 4 of with Argath, I've played games where they all came down by turn 2 and whereas Gesper was pretty harsh, Turge was the one dealing damage. Gesper has been fairly retrained into Yunalesca
That is true with Thaumaturge being the one dealing the damage. Could be rough even in today’s meta game where we have those little guys stripping hands and then swinging for damage. ~Ryan
Ice has the best crystal generation in the game with opus 16 agries giving you 1 on swing and with duke larg on board she is a 9k beat stick 10k with ovelia 11k if you have them two and opus 13 luka then there is the opus 19 waltrill end of your turn gain a crystal played for free off opus 19 norschtalen just saying
Ice does have a lot of ways to gain, i just feel like they’re rather slow by themselves, but once you get a few going they’ll stack really well. Oscar and I have been toying with that Wind/Water and it seems really fun. Not sure it’ll be competitive until we see the other cards in O23. ~Ryan
@@TheStackFFTCG I use to play an ice water knights deck where the idea was to get the 3 cost light rain down with glaciela and ramada and just spam crystal s to -4k twice then give haste then give ramada double damage it worked quite well not Meta but fast
I'm glad there is a cat 11 card with a pretty strong dull effect because I like Cherukiki... but I don't think I can make this one work.
Just need a way to cheat Cherukki out in a Water/Wind or Water/Fire deck! ~Ryan
I have played mono ice turbo discard it was not fun and i dont want that to come back
How would you say the O21 mono ice was in comparison? Easier or harder to deal with? ~Ryan
@@TheStackFFTCG I think opus 21 has more tools but with the speed of the game and the cost of things is very different now and mono ice has a harder time because we can just draw cast I don't think the game would change much if the forword came back but the monster would need to have its text changed to match unaleca
I decided to get into this game over the last couple of weeks after my last couple of TCGs lost their scene where I live. I grabbed anniversary set 2024 and preordered a box of the next 2 main sets which look super cool. Really appreciate this kind of content to help get new players in (better late than never right?!), thanks very much
Amazing to hear that we have new people coming to the game! ~Ryan
don't forget about cuch!
standard warrior of light as well!
Lunafreya is simply going to be an include in lists with water. With the rabbit and astrologian, it’ll be even better. Timing with knowledge of your deck and your possible hits will be a from of skill expression that will look nearly identical to someone just slamming it and praying. But the difference will be there in the results. Watch out for water’s continued craziness. It’ll be interesting to see what other LB cards pop up. Another thing I was speaking about with friends is that after Lunafreya, casting a single Leo removes one of water’s win conditions in Tidus. A water deck holding off on Leo for bigger payoffs in Lunafreya + Tidus might feel strange considering how strong Leo is. Time will tell, but the LB choices are definitely going to get more interesting next set… except for wind (yuri is already an auto exclusion)
Agreed that Lunafreya is going to create a super interesting top end for Water. It’s kind of scary that it’s anything that can run Water as well. Stacking the deck with stuff like Astro is definitely going to be a stupid good way of manipulating things to your favor. I’m excited to see what we can do with that. Also good point that Water may have these SUPER powers too end cards like Tidus and Lunafreya but you’ll be stuck with the choice of what to play, to ensure you don’t lock yourself out of certain options. ~Ryan
Hope rug will not work it says on your main phase 1
I think you’re implying that hope would summon 2 category XIII from deck in a single turn. Of course this doesn’t work, but using rug to get around summoning sickness so hope can pay the cost of the action ability does work. Rug is just being used as a haste battery. On your turn you summon rug and hope. Hope summons a category XIII character. Move to attack phase. Rug attacks and gives hope all the keywords. Hope, despite summoning sickness, has haste and can now attack or use the dull ability on the card. If hope attacks and has brave, hope is still active. Before your turn is over, you can utilize the haste one more time to use hope’s ability. Turn 2, hope enters with summoning sickness. During attack phase, you use rug to give hope at least haste. Rinse repeat.
@@Rainfires no I just read the card dislexia is a pain I read that the ability can only be triggered I'm main phase 1 my bad
Question is, do we sacrifice the 2CP Light Lightning to play Rughadjeen to accelerate the board presence? ~Ryan
@@TheStackFFTCG this has a bit more mid-rang feal to it than cat 13 agro I mean you alredy have the search Hope in that deck and its in colour
I am thinking of trying this game with my gf. What are your two player starter recommendations? Also when we upgrading our starters can we split 1 anniversary box our will i need to get multiple?
For the two player starters: if you're fans of FF7, there's two that fit that bill. The Avalanche and Turks one is the newer of the two. The Cloud and Sephiroth one may be older, but man I'm partial to the cloud in there .. it's a fun 'combo' card that really gets the brain going. Villains vs Heroes / Wraith vs Knight are both fairly outdated at this point, but an optimist would argue that it may be perfect for that same reason. Will get you familiar with the mechanics of the game without throwing some gimmick at you. Personally not a fan of these. FFXIV Shadowbringers has a really steep price tag on it if you're in NA .. unless you just have to have that one, I would choose something else, simply because it's so expensive. Cecil and Golbez is rather fun. The light Cecil in there has some fun things it can do. The Golbez side is okay, but the Cecil side was definitely my favorite side. This would be a get it if you like FF4, pass if you don't. Then we have Noctis and Ardyn. Probably my favorite two player set, but I'm super partial to the retainers. They're super fun to play, right out of the box. Doesn't need much upgrading but can definitely be personalized. The Ardyn side is not nearly as fun to play with, but it's still a solid deck to start with. Personally, this is my pick. For the anniversary kits: You for sure can split one amongst the two player sets. The best part about those starts is that they typically don't cross elements at all. So if you split them, you could easily just take the Earth and Wind cards for the Noctis deck and then the Lightning and Fire cards for the Ardyn deck! Highly recommend splitting it to get your feet wet. ~Ryan
I would recommend you lurn how the stack works and how end of turn works as they are the 2 most asked questions I see or get when I cheat in laswel and an other knight because they enter at the same time you can stack it so laswel enters first then the other knight to get 2 dull freeze triggers and no laswel dose not need to be on board to when a job knight attacks to get the discard at the end of turn and no you can not amat the discard trigger
Very true! These are very common questions we see. We’ve been wanting to make some more intermediate videos talking about how the stack functions and how confusing these interactions can be. ~Ryan
You can in fact amat the discard trigger no?
@@Steven_Yuki no you can not cast in the end phase laswell just goes on the stack you do not get a priority window
Ah gotcha thankyou, I was reading the CR and both players do in fact get priority, but since you aren't allowed to cast summons, nor action/special abilities, what's the usage case of the priorities then?
I got the two anniversary boxes mentioned based on recs, but no one ever talks about the 2023 Dissidia box. Was it bad?
Nope it’s honestly really good, but it’s more of a “Starter Deck” with a few solid reprints rather than a full on “bang for your buck” type of product. Still a solid purchase, but probably not for your first purchase in my opinion. ~Ryan
TH-cam recommended me this video for some reason, but I honestly had no idea that FF had a TCG.
We get that a lot. It’s not widely marketed but alive! It’s never too late to start. It’s so much fun and comparatively affordable.
As mentioned, yea, that’s a pretty common meme for FFTCG. Happy to have you here! If you’re familiar with MTG, this is come pretty easy to you. Hope you find something you enjoy whether it’s collecting or playing! ~Ryan
Its not very good
Excellent video. I started 3 months ago and what you presented are my conclusions after buying my first few things and now down the rabbit hole with a ton of cards now. I’d recommend people the same path.
Eheh... Same
Welcome to the jungle! I started with an ebay lot of 3000 commons and rares.. i now have over 50k and my wife thinks i have a problem. ~Ryan
I had earth chaos ark and refia control right out the gate in my first two games and then I ran into chaos ark twice more. From my lens at Chicago, chaos ark felt to be the meta call against a surge of 4-color good stuff lists. I found it to be a rather large portion of the room. Whatever you play should have an answer to it and to the 4-color good stuff. Can you deal with at least 3 refia and her handful of revivals? Anything with consistent removal on top of some breakzone hate or rfg options while staying low on colors or having access to ability cancellation (for chaos) should do well.
Nice! What was your overall experience in Chicago? How’d you end up? I agree, dealing with Refia over and over needs to be something you’re prepared for. Or just running over them before they can revive her. Mono Earth checking a lot of boxes right now! 🤔 ~Ryan
@@TheStackFFTCG I did okay! Was my first ever tournament, so I did 3-5 with a soul crushing throw on my 4th game. Overall experience was incredible and the community is awesome. I love mono earth, and the only thing it needs in the matchup is to keep up in removal because otherwise you really get outpaced. Needing to remove a refia every turn can get expensive and then you lose the tempo game.
Hey, Minnesota checking in. Nice to meet y'all and thanks for the hat, it was my good luck charm. Hope to see you again.
You guys were a great group of people! Happy to have met y’all and hope to see you guys down our way soon! ~Ryan
Hey I saw you guys there!
Yea!! Hope you had a great time! We did! ~Ryan
Thanks a lot for the sharing! We will soon have a big match of two decks, any cards including LB can't be used in both the two decks. I'm preparing to use WOL7(Seifer) and mono water, or mono earth Chaos and knights. Really appreciate if you could give some advices!
Honestly, my mental state going in right now is Multi-Element decks are going to be running away with things if they aren’t kept in check. Chaos/Ark does that best. When Chaos/Ark is popular, Mono Element decks become better. If you have a Mono Element deck that can beat both WoL7 and 4C (Refia/Soiree) then you’re in a good position. Knights seem like a wild card at the moment. I feel like in a 2 deck format you’d have to be playing out of your mind to not get countered. I feel like most people are going to do well against knight if they you dont get the turn 1 Ramza > Curilla > Laswell > Charlotte. But .. my luck is terrible so I am 100% biased on that haha. WoL7 and Mono Water are my picks. Especially if you built Mono Water with LB Tidus as your end game.. i’d say you’re solid. ~Ryan
@@TheStackFFTCG Thanks a lot for the advice! I'll practice these decks a lot these days. I find your sign name is Ryan, are you Ryan Chen haha~
Haha, not Ryan Chen, though I like to be optimistic and take that as a complement! 😀 ~Ryan
@@TheStackFFTCG Haha, looking forward to your new FFTCG videos and good luck to the Chicago Materia Cup!
I will be there. Im sure i wont do well but should be fun. I dont get to play much.
It’s always fun! One of my favorite things about this game is the community. Everyone’s nice, everyone’s happy to be there! If you catch us, say hey! We’ll jam some games with you! ~Ryan
Hey me again! I was just at a LQ recently and realized an interesting ruling about Ark. Ark, even if it can’t break something will still require the discard as long as Ark had a valid target. This came up against Madam Edel. The soiree members couldn’t be broken but were still valid targets forcing the discard. Preventing targeting (as you said in the video), however, does stop it (water Cecil etc.)
This makes more sense now. As long as there is a valid target at time of resolution, the effect still goes through. Meaning that you’d have to make the forward untargetable on the stack or remove it before Ark resolves to ensure and dodge the discard. Thank you for that! ~Ryan
