This was another part of our trip that we had been really looking forward to. We had visited Oslo a couple of times before, but had never seen the fjords on the west coast of Norway. We had also heard Norway referred to as the "Land of the 1000 waterfalls" and we were very keen to see some of them. Truly the scenery was amazing. Lofoten has stunning scenery. Unfortunately, most of our visit was rather dull weather with a few showers thrown in. It was still a very enjoyable part of the trip. The "sunset" shots at the end of the episode were not modified in any way to make them more vivid ... that's just how it was! Great meeting you in Sogndal. Too bad the weather didn't play along the following day. Safe onward travels.
Thank you again for your recommendations. The route that you recommended to Hemsedal was awesome.
Hi and thanks for sharing your Norwegian adventure videos. Very enjoyable (even for one from Norway). About your helmets: could you please share information about the helmets (brand and type) and how they functioned in the Norwegian climate? In general, how the riding gear and accessories worked is also interesting. Maybe a topic for a separate vido? Yours sincerely Jan
Hi Jan, they are Shoei Neotec 2 helmets with built in Sena intercom units (SRL2) and they worked very well for us on the whole trip, including Norway. The very efficient windscreen on the R1300 meant I can have the visor open a couple of centimetres, which gives good ventilation. We also used the vent on the top and on the chin in the very hot countries (Greece was up to 39 degrees Celsius). There is an earlier video in the playlist which describes all the things we brought with us, including the mesh jackets and down jackets. However, I think it is a good idea to do a review of what we have learned about that when we get home. One of the things that I didn't mention in that earlier video that I found very good in the far north was a merino wool base layer.
@@mournesrambler Hi and thank you for your swift reply. I tried the Shoei Neotec 2 both last Summer and this Summer, but the helmet does not seem to fit my head very well. I also tried the Neotech 3 this Summer with the same results and ended up with an HJC helmet instead! I like the looks of the Neotech 2 so I suppose I need to try it again! And thank you for informing about a previous video made about the gear, I will check for it! Merino wool long sleeve “t-shirts” and “longs” are a must when you live in Norway and ride as long as the ice on the roads are not too thick or uneven. It isolate and breaths much better than fleece. Jan
Lakes and waterfalls too cold for skinny dipping!!
Indeed! 😊
Brought back happy memories! A beautiful country!!
Yes, although there have been many contenders, we're thinking Norway has been the best scenery of the trip thus far
Wow! What absolutely beautiful scenery. Fantastic video!
Thank you, Rod. The last three days have been tremendous. Will try to get another video together of them shortly.
Great to see you got some nice sunny days in Norway. Looks like great roads for the bike. Looking forward to the next video :)
Thank you, Enda. We're basking in the sunshine at Hemsedal right now. Thankfully very little rain this week. We had a downpour on Tues while we were having dinner, but it stopped in time for us heading home

Good point, Rod :)
Fantastic video Ian. Lovely to meet you both in Helsinki and enjoy the rest of your amazing trip 😊
Thank you, again, Enda. The weather isn't great here in Lofoten which is disappointing, because the scenery is spectacular. Hopefully it will clear up before we move on.

Great video Ian and Gill. Really enjoyed this one. ...Rod.
Thank you, Rod. Your encouragement is providing motivation to continue the production :)
The elevator in Warsaw looks terrible. This is a temporary situation. The elevator is secured while tenants move in. It must be a new building.
Yes, that sounds likely. Everything else was very nice.
Great views as always and blue sky’s galore!!
This week has been a bit more inclement, but still mostly dry when we've been travelling
Great video editing Ian and Gill. The composition gets better with every episode! 👍
Thanks for the encouraging words, Rod. Still much to learn :)
Great info & footage looks like you both are having a great trip . Safe travels & keep up the good work . Regards Robert
Thank you, Robert. It has been an amazing experience. We're heading to Estonia this morning.
Ian and Gill, Really enjoyed (if that is the right word) this episode. The use of silence in the camp was very appropriate. The horror is unimaginable, but important to be aware of. ...Rod & Linda.
Thank you, Rod. We also had a walking tour in Warsaw which highlighted the conditions in the biggest Jewish ghetto. As you say, unimaginable. Kind regards to you both.
By the way your video also as always has a lot more positive clips!!
Thank you!
That must have been traumatic! It’s a trip myself and Juliana have still to do!!
I would thoroughly recommend it. Interestingly, it apparently gets more visitors than either Krakow or Warsaw
Thanks for sharing. I would like to visit Auschwitz myself one day - it's an important reminder as to how evil people can be and these places should never be forgotten.
Agreed, Colin It's also a salutary warning against indifference from those not immediately involved.
Great to watch this episode Ian, we were in Krakow last year and watching this brought back good memories, you have captured it well. Safe travels for you and your wife.

Enjoyed the video Ian. You're a natural TH-camr! 😉
It takes a lot longer than I had anticipated to edit even a short clip, but if I leave it until I get back I'll be left with hundreds of hours of footage that I'll never watch :) Hope you are well
My wife and I are enjoying the videos. Although my Mrs is alarmed at how fast you ride. Haven't told her yet, the the videos are speeded up. 😂 🏍💨 ...... or are they ???? 😂
Yes, some of them are to try to keep the length of the videos down :)
Might not have been an easy decision but it was the right one. Cream first every time 🤣 Michael J (Cobam)
The consistency of the cream made it a fairly obvious choice :)

Thank you, Brendan. It is even better than we had dared hope. Currently, sitting down to a platter of mixed kebab in Istanbul :)
Hi Ian & Gill - that was an unfortunate mess up at the border re: insurance but at least you were able to resolve it and get back on your travels albeit via a roundabout route and you managed to dodge all the rain in the process! 👌
Yes, Brendan, we are expecting a few challenges on our trip ... if that's the worst that happens we'll be happy :)
Loving following your adventures Ian and Gill. What an incredible trip so far.

We are very glad to have met you today, on our way between Rome and Naples. We wish you a happy and pleasant further journey, nice weather, lots of nice experiences and, of course, the fulfillment of your goal. If your journey ever brings you to Munich, we are looking forward to hosting you and maybe taking a tour through Bayern. 🏍️ Best regards, Darko and Alex
Thank you, Darko & Alex. Likewise, when you come to Northern Ireland, and safe journey to Naples and home. It was lovely to meet you both and hear of your experiences. Thanks for your advice on luggage, etc.
Why did you switch to soft luggage? Has the bike been reliable? Any errors? The 1300 is an amazing machine…..
I am using the standard Vario luggage, but since there are two of us on one bike, we decided the hard luggage on its own (even fully extended) wouldn't be enough, so we have also brought soft luggage strapped to the top of the top box and panniers. That arrangement has worked well so far. We try to keep the heavier items, such as tools, lower down in the panniers to keep the centre of gravity lower. If you would like to know more about that, please see our 'what should we bring video?" Before we left I had to have the starter relay replaced which was a standard recall, but since then I've had no issues with the 1300. I find it much more manageable and considerably more lively than the 1250, so no regrets thus far. However, we are still less than a quarter of the way round our planned route, so there is still plenty of opportunity for challenges :)
3:13 Thank you for stopping by. It was nice to have you here. And who knows, maybe you'll have another chance to stop by Switzerland towards the end of your trip. You are very welcome! Have a good and safe journey.
Thank you, Dariusz. It was the best motorcycling day of the trip so far! Maybe someday I'll reach your standards of video editing! At least, I know what I'm aiming for now :)
