Have you considered trying retique it and then staining it a lighter wood? Either way the table setting is going to look amazing, the brown glasses literally complete the whole thing, they were well worth the splurge❤❤

Go get you a wood graining tool from Lowe’s, use the gel satin over top what you have done here should look amazing! It’s the graining I think your looking for. Hope this helps! We all have these things happen. Hang in there

You should retique it and then stain it. Everyone is doing that now and it seems very legit and pretty.

I had to laugh, I recane chairs. Anytime you take a chair out in humidity or it gets wet, the cane softens. Once it’s dry it gets tight again. Cane is finicky, it’s hard to paint and stain, but it can be done. I think a better way to repair the hole, get a piece of cane and weave it into the chair. Supergluing it and taping till it’s dry. Obviously the best way is to replace it. I love cane chairs, they are my favorite. Cool idea with trying to get it to look natural. Two tone chairs look great. Ok a dining chair needs two inch high density foam, it comes wrapped for shipping, like a mattress, lol, I had to laugh when you opened it. I’m Glad you doubled it, you can spray glue foam together, then cute it out again, then glue the layers together. Great job! Tables aren’t as bad as they look, staining isn’t easy but there are lots of ways to update them. I personally love a good vintage table. Kudos to you for doing your own furniture. Most people wouldn’t try. ❤

Awww, not everything works out the way we want it to and that’s okay! In this case I believe that this might be a blessing for you! I am actually so excited to see the dinning room with a tablecloth and all the amazing accessories that you found for the dinning table! I think your original idea for the table was really nice, however I do think that it would look so much more intentional and with a sense of finished look. I think this tablecloth will tie the room together so much better and would have a more sophisticated look. Don’t be disappointed, everything happens for a reason! 🌞🫶🏻

Ahh sweetheart.. don't apologize & don't be so hard on yourself, give yourself grace! No one gets it right all the time, everyone makes mistakes or messes up.. even the professionals! In the end, regardless of what you decide to do, is going to be the right decision & Its going to be burgundy beautiful! You're already excited with the decor, and I'm so glad you found something that makes you happy, honestly i think is beautiful! If you decide to eventually get a new or new to you table, then in the meantime have fun thrifting different linens & dishes or linens & just pieces for a beautiful tablescape! Play with it & have fun! I mean Christmas decor already out, start picking up pieces for a Christmas table... you can always thrift glasses just for looks & not drink from them if its something you just can't do! It don't have to be expensive or fancy as long as you like it & are happy with it! Whenever we get moved, whatever table i get will be for the size & shape because i think that's exactly what I'm going to do! Just thrift things and keep it pretty! Unless of course I find something i fall in love with at a great price. I'm still just as excited for the final reveal!😊

Can the table not just be sanded and stained? Maybe I missed something and that's not an option but seems like a simple fix to me.

After watching this video I am so eager to see how the styling of the table will come out. Seeing all the styling pieces you bought I have a feeling that it will come out beautifully! This was quite a ride. We have all had those projects that can be so discouraging. But I know u can make lemonade from the lemons. I have a very similar table in my kitchen. It doesn’t have leaves but it has the same orange top and off white legs. If u want the table to really shine then spend the time on the top and let the legs go for now. I would consider sanding down to the raw wood on just the top and stain it the beautiful driftwood color I think u wanted. I did that with mine and it looks so refreshed. I painted the legs an ivory because they were almost yellow before. But u could always paint the legs black or something. Yay for the beautiful table linens! Just use those for now and take a break. Don’t rush and push yourself for TH-cam. Do it when u are ready to tackle your next move on this project. Fatigue is a real thing and can steal your creativity. It will be awesome no matter what. It may just take a few months to be where u want it.

Take the advice of an old DIY veteran. Scrap the table and order the one you really want! Your time is worth more than saving some money!!

Its going to be stunning with all your decor which is beautiful. Love the more natural colors of what you're going with. Im using close to the same colors in mine with a touch of the sage/olive greens. We gutted our kitchen/dining rooms n are at the point of installing the new cabinets but let me tell you the wall paint was a trial of our sanity. It was painted three times before we got the color mixed right by Lowe's n it was their color card. I've never had any luck using the gel stains no control with it; just smeared with me n had to sand table back down. Honestly don't think you did anything to not have the end result of your vision. You've got this n y'all's dining room is going to be truly gorgeous. Have a awesome weekend.

Paint the top black and " dip" the legs in a bit of black at the bottom but leave the legs and underside brown

It happens! I have so many fails. Whenever I say I am going to do a project I know my husband cringes lol 😂 he should just assume it’s going to cost a lot and it won’t turn out. So don’t feel bad. I kind of don’t think you should give up on it yet though. Maybe fall when it gets cooler out try it again but maybe the stain was an issue. What sheen was the paint? You might have said and I missed that sorry. Do be hard on yourself. A lot of these influencers make it seem like theirs comes out perfect but they don’t! -Jen

You didn’t ruin a client’s things 😬 I think your pivot is realistic. You can always come back to it when you feel mentally ready/get another idea. I was going to comment that you should check out Black Sheep House, she has tutorials on making a faux Pottery Barn wood finish. I know you said you didn’t want “painted on wood grain lines” but maybe you can get an idea from her technique to get the look you want. OR the only other thing (if you wanna still DIY it) sand it all down and stain the raw wood. Which is a huge undertaking I know! Either way, I’m still so excited and looking forward to seeing it all come together. I know it’s going to be gorgeous!

These dining chairs are gorgeous❤ I have this little obsession with wood chairs! I love collecting the to sit all around my house just as decor, & of course if they're in good shape then that's a plus.. they're functional as well.😉 Most of the ones I've collected are just wood, but some have upholstered seats, some have the seats & backs. I have one that has the cane back & the seat has an thick wood inlay with studs around the inlay & this pretty detailed carving. Its one of my favs that has no upholstery. We we get moved into our house i would love to find an older oval or rectangle table and 6 old, mix match but complimenting chairs..i really want unpainted wood but if i find a pretty white one that's fine too. Anytime I want something from HL, i always wait till that item is on sale.. because i know it will be! I'm so glad you got all the painting done & the seats covered.. and all went well for you! Love the fabric you chose.. girl they look so good! You did A fantastic job! I mean I would buy one if i found one in a store!😁 I know the reveal Is going to be epic! Honestly I've never had the desire to reupholster anything, but this was quite inspiring! If I ever find a piece i want to re-do.. I'll remember how this inspired me! Great job.. excited for the reveal!😊

Thanks for sharing! We go to HHI every summer for our annual beach trip and I have not been thrifting there yet! Definitely putting these spots on my list. I love the cloche you got (the net dome thing to keep bugs off- I feel like I saw one on Pottery Barn or Williams-Sonoma and it was super expensive!) and I do love the hourglass you snagged!

If you decide to go the dark wood route- you can use gel stain! I used General Finishes Antique Walnut recently and it’s a perfect chocolate brown. Either way, the bench top & table top stains should match. I would do the bench legs in the same paint color as the table legs. I love your new dining chairs!

Thank you so much Brooke for doing this video! I have some retro dining room chairs from the 60's with cane backs. My ex's grandson took a pen and poked it through the holes in the cane while i was at work one day, damaging 2 chairs. I bougt those kinda ugly, stretchy covers for them, hoping I'd find a way to repair them someday. Looks like I'm heating up the glue gun this afternoon! Wish me luck! ♥️
