Collective Strength and Progress : Happy 209th Birthday, Louisiana
Today, we celebrate Louisiana's 209th birthday. We can all admire how far we've come and how very many opportunities are still ahead of us. We can continue to look to our leadership and our own neighbors to see how we've grown and unified over the past two centuries. Our Tribal Chairman, David Sickey, recently had the invitation of visiting the capital, connecting with our Governor, state representatives, and advocates from every walk of life. The Coushatta people now have a seat and a voice at the Louisiana table. We are proud of the generations of our elders who have contributed to our calling this state home. We are an US. Many Roles, One Community. And we are all #LouisianaStrong Happy Birthday, Louisiana.

2019 Merry Christmas from the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana
มุมมอง 1594 ปีที่แล้ว
The truest magic of our Christmas Season is quite literally the gift we feel, each day, within our commuity - the people we call family, friend, and neighbor - which has been cultivated and loved for generations. This is home. This is Christmas. This is every name known and each family held. This is warm. This is all that is Good. This lasts beyond a season and fills us for a lifetime and more....

2016 Coushatta Powwow : Basket Weavers
มุมมอง 2338 ปีที่แล้ว
Marie Thompson, an Elder of our Coushatta Tribe of LA, has been weaving these pine baskets since childhood. These baskets were made by her hands. Her granddaughters, Xena & Leigh Anne, have been weaving baskets since they were 7 years of age. They set up this booth at the 2016 Coushatta Powwow in honor of our tradition, but also in reverence and respect for this art of their grandmother.

I've watched people in Vietnam make baskets from bamboo. It seems to be a really flexible material! I am definitely planning to try it when I get some bamboo from the woods nearby.
Great video of our Coushatta cousins. Yakoke!
Couldn’t quite understand how to determine it was ready to harvest? Anyone catch that?
He said that if you see the leaves twirling in the wind, you can cut those ones accordingly
I hope he is not the last one. To any indigenous people who want to learn your tribe's art.....if you feel in your heart that you want to learn, just try it and then keep trying. You will learn with persistence. Seek out your elders and those who know the craft, ask them questions. They want the younger generations to carry on these beautiful & ancient arts. You can do it! :)
I wish it was a video of weaving.
Love this wonderful documentation and hopefully it will teach others! Thank You.
Nice work, and I look forward to the next video.
