Does the board size matter when adding a foil? Does the Slingshot HG Tuttle Connector spread the load enough for a non-reinforced tuttle box?

Some of the new boards have odd volume distribution so it is easy to sink the tail or front. I just want to have fun on the water so I don't care if I use a big floaty board as long as it planes a little

Those Slalom actions were good, particularly as both of the men performing them were proving that even when you're experienced in Windsurfing you can be caught out by the wind and wave conditions and mistakes can be made.

I'm 84kg and ride 104L Quatro Cube - which works all the way down to 3.5. My 94L JP Ultimate Wave (3.5 - 4.7) - more technique needed through messy whitewater on the way out but is superb for waveriding. Feels very light and nimble and yet big enough to deal with lulls. My preferred board when windy. I sail on the South Coast. I had an 83 but tedious if the wind dropped!

How do you deal with chop on the bigger boards though? I find going past 63-64cm width starts to get difficult when its 5m weather. Also riding side-on windswell and occasional groundswell.

im 80kg and I ride 70l wave and 105l slalom. A smaller slamom board would feel better but as you said it's good to have volume under the feet when the wind drops....especially if youre miles out to sea!

Nice conditions. I used to live in Gullane 45 years ago. You are probably freezing but it was even colder back then. Good to see you go out together and keep an eye open for the others. I hope you get to go sailing in sunny Portugal or Spain on on the Mediterranean sometimes. With the training you get you must blow the rest out of the water only in shorts and warm water. It must feel like a liberation !

A day of two half. Lower tide in the morning nice waves all over the bay 4.0. Pm 4.5 and quite flat.

Good info particularly with the fly mount which I found to be pretty useless but will try your method of mounting loosely on the sail cloth. I also have to say you are a brave man to stick 500 quids worth of kit into 'open water'. First time I used mine naked in the cols frame, I found I had water ingress (like other comments). I then found a comment on Insta's site saying for active sports use you should use a dive case as impact pressures can exceed the 10Mtr rating! It's fine if you're a pro and don't crash all the time but... So I now have Insta's dive case (which is big) but also cheaper £40 boxes off ebay which is essentially just a waterproof cover but does the job. You have to fix a cord around it for safety though.

After 40 years on the water and having having owned (too) many boards from free race to 67ltr waveboards I decided 3 years ago to strip down my quiver considerably. I weigh 72kgs and I live now in Portugal (Atlantic Ocean), often cross-on or cross with groundswell. I have ordered a one-do-it-all Flikka board: An 85 ltr compact wave board with quad fin setup. I'll sail this board with only 3 sails (Ezzy Wave, huuuge wind range!); 5.5/4.7 and 4.0. I found that having fewer boards and sails to choose from had a positive impact on: - quality time on the water (yes, sometimes a 4.2 would've been better than the 4.0 but would it have been the hassle of changing? No.) - it also makes it much easier to choose the right sail. I mean, who needs a 4.7, 5.0, 5.2 gap? Just to be clear: I also have 1 summer freeride setup: a 95 freerace Tabou with 6.0 Ezzy Cheetah and I have a 75ltr thruster wave board that I prefer over the 85 when sailing in strong winds but that happens maybe 5 times a year. So there you go, that's my angle at the question.

Thanks for the video. I'm 95kg and returning to windsurfing after a gap of 20 odd years. Things have changed an awful lot since my days of riding extreme sinkers in waves in marginal conditions. I was wondering what wind range you think you have with the 125 Kode and the larger sails.

Awesome, I hit 50 this year and this has inspired me! I used to do forwards in the 90s but then gave up windsurfing until getting back into it recently. I haven't risked a forward yet! Looking at the video, you have basically got it. If you had a small wave to jump off I think you would easily get the full rotation. You may even have to sheet out a bit at the end to avoid over rotation! In the video, as you hit the water near the end of the loop, it looks like you are still pulling in hard with your front hand. If you want to speed the rotation up for these flat water loops, make sure you pull more on the back hand at that point, and almost push out and forward with the front hand as you go around. That will allow the front of the sail to lift more. Basically, try to keep your weight pulling on the boom as far back behind the center of lift in the sail as possible for a fast spin that ends up upright. Right, now that I have taken it upon myself to tell other people how to do it, I'd better put my money where my mouth is and get out there and do them again myself!

Volume isn't everything once planing shape is more important than volume. Volume helps while schlogging or blown jibes or maneuvers if you don't maintain speed but many new shapes are too wide and short and thick & boxy for my taste. makes for a harsh jarring ride no fun sailing in rough high wind conditions. I'm 68 kg sail mostly great lakes in 20-40+ mph winds with 6-10' waves( rough choppy gusty conditions) and I prefer old school narrow thin railed low volume boards in these conditions, I sail mostly old school boards early 90's polyester clark foam 60 liter or less Hunt maui wave board 3.5-4.5 pointy tail nose thin rails (shreds everything jibes maneuvers beautifully just flies over everything smooth and nimble), 2003 RRD Cult 50 72 liter 4.0-5.5 a little slappy , old school 1994 hipertech clam sandwich narrow 75 liter 4.0-5.5, 2003 85 liter exocet original wave 4.0-5.8 , 2017 82 liter RRD cult wave V6 feels like a barge (too wide & stubby) and sails like one too (junk)harsh ride too corky bounces out in jibes due to fat boxy rails & 1995 bic vivace 282 107 liters 6.0-7.0. The new trend of wide buoyant, stubby, thick boxy rails shapes might be ok in smooth water but no bueno in rough seas If winds aren't solid rig bigger maybe take a little bigger board then when winds pickup keep same sail put it on a smaller board. People who have been sailing less than 20 years have probably never experienced riding the old school high wind narrow wave low volume boards that just handle extreme rough conditions so much better more fun than todays boards. 60 liter hunt in action paired with 4.0 conditions (a little under powered I sized down boards instead of sail was on this 4.0 and 75 liter board which was too harsh of a ride out of control this board so much better use the sail to lift you not the board) much rougher than go pro indicates th-cam.com/video/V0QhKTDsMqw/w-d-xo.html

My X2 just died, I ensure all doors are closed properly. My theory (I am sending th unit back to the HongKong repair center for feedback) is that in time the salts build up on the seals of the doors. I have seen folk on YT recommending to put the cam in fresh water after use (up to an hour) to disolve any salts build-ups. I agree the insta360 is the superior cam as the gopro max 360 seems to distort more (more bendy horizons in your view) but I am not convinced the quality is where it needs to be for a piece of kit costing 450 pound coins of one's hard earned plata. I noticed the X3 has a new door design for the usb-port so I expect they know about this issue and have improved on the new version as such. Anyway, not to put a downer on the tech, it is brilliant and I use it for the same reason's Nick sets out - I am improving and get to relive some of the good stuff of the sessions afterwards - I started filming shortly after I restarted windsurfing in 2019 and after 133 videos it is evident that filming yourself helps tremendously to improve your windsurfing. Hi, thanks for the review. You seem to take a different fin size than recommended by Severne for twin set up (18cm vs 15 cm). Why is that and what size would you recommend for the Pyro 105l (103kg, 4.0-5.3)? Many thanks!

I have two of these Pyro boards, including the 93 litre size as my marginal winds board. (That 93 litres is, as others have mentioned, 60cms wide.) I find the Pyros work with any fin set up, tri fin, quad, or as a twin, and really you are just tuning backfoot 'drive' against looseness. In 2023 Koster seems to be using twin fins less, but of course the choice also depends on personal preferences and on your local wave conditions.

Hi Nick, have you tried an extension piece on it between the flymount and the cage to move it slightly further away - I find even a 16cm extension makes a huge difference and it almost looks like a drone shot. Few examples in my TH-cam - Cheers - Ian

Most decent suit use the yamawhatsit neoprene. The ion suit like many don't need the little popper for the zip because the zip can not be pulled open when the zip is done that way round.

The cuffs are a good idea. I do like the colour of the ion though - black wetsuits are soo boring

I think the Orca wetsuits were originally designed for swimming / triathlons. I have a O'Neill Hyperfreak it's amazing.
