Such a great song and performance. Good to see and hear Garth. Thank you. RIP Greg
Hell I was 16 when this came out. Greg Quill -RIP.
Absolutely brilliant song, doesn't get played enough(never) on commercial radio, was always overshadowed by 'gypsy Queen' which was a good song, but not as great as The winter song!!
The last time I heard this I was 19 and had just left home I'm 70 now.
What a great band and what a wonderful time we all had in Melbourne
We used to listen to Fleetwood Plain on the long drives on the New England Highway to and from Armidale to Byron and Colo back in 75-6, magic!
Awesome band ! ☮️rock on
this man was a legend of aussie country rock imo -rip greg ,hxxx
Interesting how an artist can find a music that speaks to him and make it his own. Thanks for sharing.
I think this TH-cam channel was owned by Greg Quill and no updates on it after he passed away many years ago in May 2013. The last video posted on here was a year before Greg Quill died.
When I first heard Greg sing, I thought his pitch was slightly off. But as I listened, he followed the melody. Later, I brought my girlfriend, a jazz singer, who had perfect pitch, to hear him. She said he sang a semitone off the tune. Which gave his singing a unique, haunting sound
❤️
❤️
enough bass?
It's a pity that the cameraman hardly showed JB
Actually, where the hell is Nashville?
The original 1972 song was the best. 😭
These guys used to play alongside a psychedelic band at Josephs coat in sydney, the craziest and greatest venue in the world until they knocked it down for bridge. who remembers the name of the other band?
I remember Kevin Borich played there, after he left the LaDe Dahs! Also Bay City Union from QLD
Lyrics written by Lindsay
Shut up you FOOLS, this man was a GIFT to this world, this makes me cry.
Glad it's over. They were all drunk, stoned in drugs and out of this world. Country Radio was my favorite, especially Winter Song, the very last song uploaded on TH-cam. They say the song was released in 2016? That, I don't get because the song was released in 1972. Maybe they mean released on TH-cam in 2016 because for years I have searched for it and found none. However, I still have the original single vinyl record.
An undervalued icon of Australian music. And a talented music journo. Sad news that he died so young.
R.I.P. Greg
What a talented man he was. Never heard of him til a year after he passed on but it was interesting to look back on his career... his country radio concert vids he was a dynamic performer with a band that rivaled any folkcountryrock in the USA during the early '70s. Would have loved to have seen them
this is an extremely tight band--a harp player and guitar player that are laser quick and just as precise
I used to see Greg play at The Shack around 1971 and I still have the Fleetwood Plain single (with Song to David on the flip side which I liked even more) but no longer have a device to play it on so it was great to find this video to relive it once again.
On the Winter Solstice, too... Wonderful.
Great to hear an all-time Aussie classic. Shame about the crowd. Brings back memories.
yeah i would be dead silent basking in the music
So true guys, shut the ### up ya philistines.
I was a callow child of 12 when this song and Gypsy Queen were radio staples in Melbourne in 1972. If anything, I felt then, and would still say, that this was the greater of two great songs. But please don't get me going about Pat Benatar getting all the credit and commercial success for a song that Kerryn Tolhurst wrote during the 1980s, because you'll just get me all fired up.
Still brings those memories bubbling to the surface - just perfect music, so underated.
thanks guys
This is bloody brilliant! ✌💖
Got this song on 45, much better song than Gypsy Queen.
Is there anywhere to get a Cd of Greg quill?
+Jecko Rekunow There's a compilation available...I bought mine at Redeye Records in Sydney a couple of years ago. It's called Wintersongs & is part of The Festival File collection...vol.22 to be precise. Good luck tracking it down.
Pretty sure 'Country Radio Live' is still available
Country Radio Live together with The Best of Country Radio & Greg Quill's solo album The Outlaw's Reply are all available on iTunes. Greg & Kerryn Tolhurst's album So Rudely Interrupted is available as an actual CD through MGM Music.or Waterfront Records.
Magnificent. Understand Greg Quill passed away a few years ago
its a master piece..
This video is so old but it's a treasure. I was a kid when I first hear this song on dad's 45 disc.
Have the original LP still and still in good shape. Also have what must be a rare recording (sample 45 on Columbia) of Greg Quill (only credit on the label, but the other CR guys must had been at the session) but with strings backing. Don't think it was ever released on the LPs like that. Wonder if anyone else has it in that form? John Rogers (ex 7HT)
Thank you Darren, Greg had a very distinctive voice, and i liked Country Radio's music very much; very sad to find that out.
Gregory Raymond Quill died on 5 May 2013 at his home in Hamilton. His family announced that Quill had "passed away suddenly but peacefully this afternoon from complications due to pneumonia and a recently diagnosed case of sleep apnea" He was aged 66-years-old and still an entertainment journalist for the Toronto Star at that time. He was survived by his wife, Ellen Davidson, their daughter Kaya, a grandson, and his two stepdaughters
Nice to see Greg playing in a relaxed place, what a cool guy.
Hey mate, yeah that would be fantastic. I'm yet to find anything to purchase. Sadly I'm in the Northern parts of Australia. Would be a great show to see. Cheers
RIP Greg.
ANOTHER GREAT JOHN STEWART SONG
Im so fucking old I remember when Stewart joined the Kingston Trio
Hi there. Im good friends with Chris Blanchflower. If you like I can ask if he has access to any of Country Radios back catalogue. I hear they are doing a tribute show for Greg Quill in September in Narrabeen if anyone is based in Sydney, Australia. Cheers.
Greg Quill. Lovely fella. And his solo album "The Outlaw's Reply" is one of the long forgotten greats. Peace, Greg. AK

Rest easy. Your music will always be close to my heart.
