#avantlink #1284221 An adventurous Family in the Back country! When doing long Back Country trips with kids you need to go as light as you can. Our channel can help you with gear ideas and trip ideas to lower your base weight and help you be successful and safe and to have fun as a family. Chris and I have many decades of combined experience Skiing, climbing, and mountaineering in the back country. We had our kids late and had to slow down to have a be with the kids. Hopefully we can help other families get out there and show that slowing down can actually be fun too. #adventure #ultralightbackpacking #backpackingwithkids #hiking #backpackingwithdogs #joring #siberianhuskies

Interesting that you can't afford it when you have a very expensive jacket, watch, macbook, marshall...
And that is exactly why I can’t afford it :) and the Marshall is a fridge lol
My wife and I invested in the 10F convertible system which was extreme for conditions we just discovered we preferred to hike in. Now we're looking into the 25F ultralight iteration since we were so enamored by the 10, but I'm skeptical about the sewn in foot box. Part of the appeal of the convertible is having the option to splay it out like a blanket from home. Sheesh though, two grand for an all year round system causes some apprehension. It's my wife's fault, I automatically have to purchase doubles of whatever gear I'm interested in. The material is buttery soft as advertised though.
This happens! I did the opposite, bought a 20 degree quilt and realized I needed a 10 cause I sleep really cold in the fall and spring :)
I also can't afford this. I'm still looking into an EE quilt, though their prices have gone up too. I've never quilted before, and I'm a bit nervous to drop this much money on one.
I have 4 UGQ bandit quilts. I highly recommend them. You definitely would not regret that purchase. It’s best to save and buy what you really want vs a cheap version you will need to replace.
Just remember to make sure you don’t buy the ‘slim’ version for width
Thank you for your nice review. I Planning to get one but my Torse is 18.9inch what size should i need to buy M or L? thankyou
I am 18.5 inches by measuring like the video on the REI website and I bought a medium and it fits me perfect.
Thx

Great video! Knives are an important part of a kit. I don't have a neck knife but can see where it could work well for some. I do carry a small leatherman as well as a Swiss army pocket knife, not sure what one but it was directly from Switzerland as a gift.😁
Awesome. A leatherman is very useful. I used to carry one backpacking but found it was overkill for summer, but as a survival tool if you needed to set snares or need to fix a broken ski they are very very good so I carry one in winter and a tiny one in my bike repair kit when I mountain bike. Mostly for the pliers and screwdriver. I have a Swiss Army knife as well but find my leather-man is better but heavier. You can get Swiss Army knives with more features than mine has though.
I started camping in elementary school and never stopped. From quinzees to tarps to tents on pads or browse beds, I would argue the browse bed when done well is the best of those. However, about 15 years ago in my early 30s I found hammocks and I pretty much never slept on the ground again. My hammock camping setup was the same weight as my tent setup and the comfort isn't even close. I use a bridge hammock with a pad which does add extra weight but is far more versatile since I often end up above the tree line and my hammock acts as a bug bivy until I can get back down in the trees. I under-inflate my pad and it is like sinking into a cloud. While I get what they're trying to do with the Zenbivy, I don't think it solves any real issue that hasn't already fixed for me as I don't really have draft issues as I'm not a really active sleeper. I have spent a small fortune chasing the light and comfortable thing and after almost four decades of camping, my hammock setup is more versatile and more comfortable than anything else. In torrential rains on the West coast, instead of people hiding in tents I end up with people congregating under my tarp as there is enough room for 8-10 people to visit and stay dry. Plus, I never have to worry about my gear getting wet from the ground as it's always hanging from my suspension. And the mom brain thing is legit, it's well studied that if your kids are around it'll be harder to relax because you'll be wanting to keep them safe.
Sounds like you have a great setup. Been thinking of trying a hammock myself to keep my dogs under me.
Try getting it in Canada with $100 in shipping and 130% exchange….
Oh I hear ya. I am in Canada :)
Always bring a knife, mine is the victorinox compact so maybe it isn’t considered a knife. I use it every time backpacking, not as much day hiking but it still comes with me. Used to use the leatherman squirt, but wanted a longer blade on the knife. My kids both carry the victorinox classic. IMO ultralight should still mean self sufficient. If I have had to borrow something, I change up my kit to ensure that use case covered next time.
That is a great knife. I have one as well. Had it since I was knee high.
Just buy a high quality mummy bag if one doesn’t like drafts.
Bit heavier though but yeah for sure
I have the zenbivy light bed, love it. Just a little heavier, and actually cheaper than quilt sets from other sources such as UGQ or Enlightened Equipment.
Great video! I always bring a knife on my trips. I also have the minimalist knife but I usually take my leatherman micra as part of my repair kit and an opinel number 6 knife for my kitchen kit.
Those are great knives! Thanks for the comment!
Can I ask what campsite # is that?
Which one? He one by T falls is named after it and the one we went to was laughing falls campground.
@alpineearth The one at takakkaw falls. Do you happen to remember the campsite number by chance?
No I don’t I’m sorry. You can’t book the exact campsite anyway so it won’t help.
Can’t wait to get mine
It’s a really nice pack. I am sure you will love it.
I made some severely costly errors in my early gear procurement days. I had zero concept of weight so I ignorantly purchased a Hilleberg Keron 14lbs $1,400 expedition tent intended for polar excursions. I live in Virginia. Forehead slap. That and an almost 3lbs S2S comfort plus sleeping pad. I think I still might have a pack strap impression etched into my shoulders from my first attempt.
Well I think my first 4 season tent was 6 pounds but 14 is a lot. Wow! We have all bought crazy things over the years. When I first started backpacking for caving and peak bagging as a ten and 20 something, I have one of those super heavy Coleman stoves stores in a metal coffee canister and an army sleeping bag that probably weighed at least 5 pounds.
Yeah I gotta respectfully disagree on the pump style filter. Maybe that particular brand you have is jankety but the MSR Guardian just expedites my filtering time and not to mention it saves me being hunched over at a creek shore exerting all my physical might for 20 minutes squeezing through a Sawyer. Plus they're so prone to clogging if you aren't filtering pristine water. The ability to toss a tube into a creek from the safety of dry ground is a selling point for me as well as the peace of mind in knowing Im filtering out any potential viruses in the water which the squeeze styles aren't noted for.
Hey, if you love it, use it. I just found it took way longer to filter with it. I don’t use a sawyer, I use the Salomon filter. It’s amazing.
Where did you get that packstrap insta360 selfie stick holder I didn't see it your list in the description. I've scoured Amazon and 360's site and I can't find it anywhere

@@alpineearth Very kind thank you.
@@danieldeviers9934 no worries. I should have put a link to it below the video.
@@alpineearth I think you did. The magnetic term threw me off. I thought it clipped into place.
Been my exact thoughts as well. It’s such a limited market with so much money to be made it confuses me how no one has really caught on. Such a shame about groundbird and how she just stopped posting and ignores everyone. I don’t believe she owns the patent on the harness so may take some of the design and build one. Maybe start a business with gear the backpackers actually want and need
Please do and then I don’t have to make anything. Sewing is not my forte.
These are not mountaineering tents ... these are "fun" camping tents.
For sure not mountaineering tents
Thanks! I love Canadian content.
Thank you for the comment!!
Another great review. You should not have to spend that much money and then have to make that many modifications to it.

Agreed, having the same issue for my dog. Thinking of trying to make my own to fit on a ruffwear harness as that is what I have.

Thanks for sharing our backpacker mug!
You are welcome. Thanks for the comment! It’s a great mug! One of my favs!

Who do you think!! lol If I left her at hime she would be devastated
Omg was that Hail? Lol she was just just a blur! Lol
@daleleev yep it was
Always add 1 or 2 extra person capacity when buying tents, cos the actual number is for the exact space that we’ll get. Kinda confusing for us consumers
You are very right. Normally a 2 person tent is only big enough for 1 person and gear. In this case though, there is lots of room for 4 people and gear. 2 x 25 inch mats and 2 x 20 inch mats work well in this tent. If you want all 4 mats to be 25 inches then definitely get the 5 person model.
Great rundown of your gear. I look forward to seeing your stories from the trail because I love your practical approach. I also will be curious to see how having the Gaia maps on your watch works out.
Thank you! I will give everyone an update after testing it out on trail.
What is the name of the pink 30kmah battery bank? That seems too good to be true.
the one I got is not available anymore on Aliexpress but this one is similar. I can't vouch for this one because I haven't tried it. www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006710646405.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.93.22fe310bIghTBL&algo_pvid=a2c8ef4e-adba-4afd-851a-3580d092a3fc&algo_exp_id=a2c8ef4e-adba-4afd-851a-3580d092a3fc-46&pdp_npi=4%40dis%21CAD%2151.48%2120.59%21%21%21267.28%21106.91%21%402101ef8717163381216778441e23cc%2112000038068864326%21sea%21CA%213265792122%21&curPageLogUid=Ge3IIfiBOcZo&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch%7Cquery_from%3A
Ah ok from aliexpress. Then it’s most likely not a full 30k mah. The weight is too light.😊
@@jakeva9802 very well could be. I have been testing it a bit and so far one iPhone charge takes it to 84 percent. Still testing it. I have the same misgivings as you.
Love the TinyPump and also have the same flashlight and love it (both as a backup and for the lantern function which is perfect on my hammock ridgeline).
@@lolobeans what kind of hammock do you use?
Nice to meet you this weekend. Looking forward to the new pack coming this week!
Let me know how you like it!
Less ugly?! 😂 Can't wait for the review!
It’s already available :)
Thoughts compared to BD beta light?
They both have their place. The betalight will be more stable for running. Black diamond has a long history of building stable running packs. They have the obvious differences like smaller side pockets on the hip belt on the betalight. But they are positioned in a better spot for accessibility. I adore the chest straps on the waypoint. Very wide, squishy and comfy. I wish there were more pockets on the chest straps and another connection for stability to the pack to make it a better vest. But I do like the water bottle pockets on the waypoint. (2 instead of 1 on the betalight)
ホーネット3Pとダガー3Pの違い見られて助かりました。ありがとうございます。 特にホーネット3Pの動画を探してましたのでうれしいです!
Translation please?
Looks a great pack. One concern, it looks like the hip belt pockets are quite a long way back and difficult to get to? I'd like to see those MUCH further round for easy access.
Actually way better than my hyperlite Waypoint. The pockets are further forward by about 2 inches. Likely because I got the L belt with the medium pack.
not very useful review if you still have the tags on it!
I usually do a first look review just to show you the bag and features and update later with a review after use. I am not done trying out this one since we had a really really bad snow year. I will do an update in time
I love my MLD, but the hip belt pouches are impossible one-handed. Just found your channel today. Look at all these videos going back with so few views! Can't wait to binge watch them all!
Thank you! Hope you like them! it’s rough trying to get views! Working hard at it.
Great review! A very slick pack, indeed.
Thank you!
And then you boil the water to kill the viruses
You definitely can do that
I got that yesterday myself and as usual different people or companies have different preferences so hard to get everything I am looking for. I did get it for hut to hut hiking and I think the size is fine. I was diapointed the side pockets seemed quite snug for my RX100 camera. Also the shoulder stap webbing or buckle is interesting that it seems hard to slide.
Do u mean the chest strap? You have to unhook it to move it. It is for sure hard to get everything you want in one pack.
Thanks a lot. I would prefer a zip chest pocket but understand that some like the 2nd bottle pocket for bear spray.
The Black diamond BetaLight has a chest pocket. May be a better pack for you?
Less ugly.. lol
Great walkthrough. Thanks for putting this together. - Dan
Well thank you Dan! Appreciate it very much. Thank you for creating such a great pack!
I've never heard of this fabric. Didn't EPL Ultra 200/400/800 just come out not long ago? I thought that was supposed to be a supped up Dyneema. Is this even tougher than that?
Yes it is and I believe it’s also a Canadian company.
The Ultra fabrics are great. In some ways, these take it to the next level because ALUULA is 100% UHMWPE fibers (the good stuff) instead of about 65%. It's also edge stable and heat bondable, so we can do more advanced things with the construction.
How does the size of the hip belt pockets compare to the pockets on the unbound. I have used an unbound and wondered are the shoulder straps also different
The hip belt packets are smaller than the unbound. Still big enough for a large cell phone but it’s a tight fit for my iPhone 14 Pro Max. The shoulder straps are wider and in my opinion much better than the unbound. I wish these straps were on the unbound.maybe the next iteration?
Well done video!! Mine's on the way.
Thank you! You will surprised just how light it is when you take it out of the box.
Love your videos here in uk. U just keep reviewing all the kit im looking at which is great.
Well that is great! So glad you are getting the info you need.
Looking forward to hearing about your experience with it out on trail!
Thank you! I will post about it in a few weeks
These guys are silly. The Nemo Dagger OSMO is a highly reviewed tent with high praise.
Just sharing my experience with you :) the Dagger did way better than the Hornet. That one went back to the store. The Dagger is still being used. It survived :)
Super cool looking pack! Can't wait for the 50 ;)
It is definitely unique!
Nice review Angel! I think its going to be a popular pack this year.
Thanks Tyler
It has a holder for a water bottle? That’s pretty cool!
Yep, wish it had two
