I love your vids, Micah. Not just the trains but the history and info you add. I especially like how you mentioned the C&O acquiring the WM, and B&O railroads. I grew up in Cumberland, MD when these railroads were in their heyday, and Cumberland was a major hub for them, and I have been a railfan ever since. In the 40's and 50's deep mining was a big source of revenue for the WM, and there's still a moderate amount of surface mining going on in Western Maryland, and neighboring SW Penna. I love trains, mining, and history .. you bring it all together in a great way. Thanks, man.

Just a tip to help people.. I'm glad to see this in here just I first watched on a roku. On the roku the comments and description are usually hidden behind a few extra steps to get to it. Just clicking down down down etc.. Not that it's hard just most don't usually go thru it so you'll know. The title doesn't explain where you're at here so just saying that for some viewers they have no idea about the story behind why it was in that shape. To get people behind it the name of the site should be somewhere other than having to dig or Google to find it. So they'll get on board with keeping these going etc. Just passing along an experience is say more have dealt with so maybe info can be placed better. Thx

Do all the trains on this video move over the former Clinchfield? Back in the 80’s, I spent countless days between Marion, NC and Erwin, TN, but I’m completely clueless about how much the CRR is used in 2024. I’m aware that at least for a time, a section of the line was closed.

I knew a guy Taylor Fitzpatrick from eastern KY he owned two coal mines but his dad had owned a couple different coal companies but had got bought out by bigger companies years ago. He told me there wasn’t a lot of good coal left in eastern KY that could be mined effectively, that much of the good stuff had been mined over the years. He said there’s only small patches of good coal left in a few counties, but lots of coal still left in east ky it’s just poor quality coal or can’t be mined safely or effectively. He took my wife & I on his mines & I remember one was a deep mine in the Elkhorn something coal seam & other was a strip mine in 3 or 4 different coal seams Elkhorns a hazard 4 & amburgy. It was really interesting & neat to watch it all work we got lucky to get to see it bc he told us a couple years back he sold both mines in 2010 & hadn’t mined since. He said he really misses the mines & the coal business a great deal but the days of the small independent coal company are over.
