Rolls Viper turbojet: indoor handcrank start
Not a follow-up video, but done around two years earlier whilst optimising the starting procedure. Run indoors as it was threatening to rain, but only to 30% as the neighbours were in. Turn up your volume for best effect.

Rolls Viper ASV8 turbojet hand-crank start
มุมมอง 488Kปีที่แล้ว
An unorthodox method of starting a Viper Mk102 turbo-jet engine. Features a 45 degree exit to divert the exhaust from frazzling my lawn and blowing down the back fence in my 30 foot garden.
0:16 and here someone somewhere thought he was winding up an air raid siren
Coolest thing I've seen in months. Many thanks for that.
Comments like yours are much appreciated and make the whole effort worthwhile!
A hand cranked turbojet engine. Doesn't get much cooler than that.
Holy sweet Jesus! I want one!
I was waiting for you to start the damn thing.
Bye bye fuel.
Just saw this video! I have a 102 that I have been working on. Machined an adaptor to fit a large truck starter to the inlet gear case. Controlling it through an aftermarket golf cart motor controller. This lets me control the torque application. Now I just need to built a control box and do a test run! A couple questions: can I just blank off the bleed air connections? What are you using for ignitor exciter? I have a couple but the leads seem to be the most difficult thing to find.
Hi, the bleed air connections can be blanked off. I made my own ignitor and connectors. Think that you can see the box beneath the engine in the video. It operates off an integral 11volt Lithium battery. The starter motor is a 24volt, 5.6kW Bosch, drawing around 400,500,700 Amps in three stages. I use car starter relays to handle the currents. Oh, ignitor units do come up on ebay. Bought one to play with from rays-teksurplus.com a while ago for £58. Made by Plessey. Pete
I am fascinated by the idea of someone having a working turbine engine in a 30ft-garden. Lol. Leaf blowing will not be an issue in those 30ft I guess :D
Good Lawnmower engine
Man, that thing likes to eat fuel doesn’t it
Dyson new hair dryer
Great turbine, love the sound of both start up and running down. How are your neighbours?
Hi Pete! We would love to feature you on our Supercar Blondie page, do you have an email i can reach out on? Thanks
email? Can't do that via YT. Have tried Bennett, your agent but address not recognised.
That whould make one heks of a genarater and one loud one at that
When the dude across the street wont shut up with his mustang, he hasnt seen grandpas toys
totally awsome, real clean kept turbine, thank you ever so much for shareing this, really enjoiyed that.
Thanks for your kind and appreciative comment.
I would love to own this 😊
Is that a Turbo Jet or a Turbo Shaft? The angled exhaust makes it look like it was designed for a Helicopter!
Hi, It's a single-shaft turbojet. the angled tail extension is my addition in order to divert the exhaust thrust from my lawn, car and fence.🙂
Mean while I am trying to put a speaker in a extended induction fan to make a sort of jet engine! Than this guy has one in his small backyard 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dusty house? What dust??
You are my sort of neighbour! I think we would get on well! :D
Why? And why is it in your garden?😂
Why? Because I can, and it's only in the garden for the video, otherwise it resides indoors. 🙂
Brillliant! 😂👍🏻
You only need to construct a full scale Eagle spacecraft now
Total Nutter!
Sounds like the Klopec’s basement
Insurance claim - external wall of house destroyed by foreign object
My finger would be shaking too.
a350 sounds
Why??..........because I can.👍👍
We need this on a car
Looking at fuel consumption, this and other reasons is why we don't use these [gas turbine] engines in land vehicles like automobiles, train locomotives and sea going vehicles/vessels like ships and submarines. Plus the fact that for a relatively simple design, they are still incredibly expensive. I don't mind reciprocating engines at the moment, though. My 12.5 horsepower tractors consume that amount of fuel (this case, gasoline, or petrol for the UK across the pond and Australia and New Zealand) over more than four hours versus this being a few minutes.
It likes fuel!
Awesome i want one for my school auto program any offers ?? BTW love the way the fuel level went down
Nice BBQ 😀
És ez mire jó?😮
I guess if you gave it some herbs it would go straight through your wall....
Wow, that JP4 just disappeared
I have no idea what I'd use it for, but I wouldn't mind having one sitting around, you know, just to have.
Hi Russell, yes, I just fancied owning one as a "conversation piece" but then decided it might be more interesting to run it.🙂
Hand crank my ass, with help from the electric starter.
Is That The Engine That Was Fitted To The Aluete Military Helicopter, Sound Sounds Familiar, From My old Army Days
Hi Darren, no, it was primarily used in the Hunting-Percival Jet Provost trainer. It does not have a power turbine or output shaft for helicopter use.
Thank You For The Information yes For Sure I Do Remember Looking In To See What Was Going On , And Was A Prop Shaft For Sure,
Quiero uno!!!!!
im glad my neighbour doesnt have a jet engine hobby project in his backyard
I’d welcome you as a neighbour .
Wicked!!
I want one
How the how the how the how...
I bet there’s no Mosquitoes in your backyard. The little nasty bugs, NOT the WW II fighter / bomber.
Not very good on gas, is it?
That'll shut the damn stereo down quickly
