Ex-Google RECRUITER EXPLAINS: This Mistake DESTROYS Your Resume
Where does being the top talent come into the mix?
If your information is correct, then your method may be wrong? It sounds to me a lot like Teams Trading, the hiring process doesn't want or need individual application. To use Google as the example, and to use Dungeon Crawling as the metaphor, the king wants a knight to slay a dragon, but the knight needs a whole bunch of people to make the armor, weapons, clothing, horse care, cooking and cleaning, navigation and budget, etc., but the knight is needed to lay the princess thus the king won't waste the star talent, so instead the king goes to the guild and hires Team Dragon Busters! and all the king needs to do is pay the mission rank rate and properly define the mission task delivery to the guild master. If your method is that individual porcelain rank adventures are to apply to the guild master for the king's mission, no matter how basic it appears to be, that will NEVER happen. The guild hall prefers to register teams, a group of task capable members, so unless one of those goes to the guild master and asks for a new member, isn't it better to approach the guild master as a team, even if collectively it has no experience in anything? If Google is the king, the recruiter is the guild master, and they have to take the mission parameters above consideration to the qualifications of any one individual. This means that a resume is worthless, the cover letter is actually the required document! It's the vital summary of the team as to what it is and does which attracts the offerings of missions from the guild master. If it sounds like the king's work, then it is for the king's men, not man, otherwise the knight could handle it. This insight suggests to me that Google ought to consider an open public sub-contracting division for competition based problem solving. If Google needs something accomplished, outsource it to the public on a rewards for solutions accomplishment system, a first come first served merit ranking corporate ladder of one's own building. Success in record becomes the resume, so registration as a team in fair competition is more practical in order to impress for later higher-ranked special tasks, which means Google needs to parcel out tasks for porcelain rank all the way up to platinum rank. Otherwise, you just end up with a mythical resume backlog of unqualified people who aren't qualified to earn qualifications, and that's a very strange looking dragon to me!?
I want to take you to dinner.
Not great advice! Hackers, crackers and identity thieves and fraudsters love any ehere they can't pick up private information. LinkedIn is absolute dream come true for criminals. Yes get a job and lose all your data, money and life! Brilliant.. No thanks.
dear Farah, can you please give an intro for hrbp role with over 2.5 years of experience
Thank you I added the key words just like 2 weeks ago ! So true , my profile views increased !
Nice! 😊 👏🏼
Amazing input.
Farah, thanks for another great video. I have a couple of questions not related to this video, so I would be very grateful for your answer, it would really mean a lot to me. My background: - I come from the EU; - I have over a year of internship in local companies in the EU (not world-famous companies); - I have medals from international competitions in physics (I was top 20 in the EU); - I have my own small startup (actually a side project that has real users and small income for 2 years), many other projects and open-source contributions; - completed BS (poor GPA - < 3.0/4.0), currently pursuing MS, both degrees related to CS. I plan to apply for internships and new grad positions at Google and similar companies. Can a bad GPA keep me from getting interviews? What are my chances of getting interviews in most Google-like companies if you can give a rough estimate? Should I focus on achieving a good GPA in Masters studies or continue doing what I love more - local internships, Leetcode, side projects? Any additional advice is welcome. Thank you very much.
Excellent
Love the Office Space two Bob's scene: "Seems like you've been missing work a lot lately." "Actually, I haven't been missing it at all."
The Bob's! What I find to be hilarious is that he was just being blatantly honest and to them that showed leadership skills and they promoted him for not going to work because he was bored. That's not far off from real life. Side note, I own a red Swingline
@@Farah_Sharghi Lol. Plz be careful if they say your desk is being moved!

How is finding the for right fit facilitated by scanning someone from head to toe, up and down before assessing qualifications and speaking to a person?
I really like your videos, but I would like confirmation. It seems like you are saying ATS systems do not filter out people. But well-known systems like Workday, Taleo, Greenhouse, etc do have features to filter out candidates, and it is well known that big companies use them. Are you saying this is not happening?
That’s correct it’s not happening. Why? Because they’re completely unreliable. Also I used Workday at NYT and Greenhouse at Lyft and they didn’t have these features. Also, any company that has a government contract can’t legally use those filers. And Tesla uses Taleo as their ATS so no they don’t use it either
Recruiting is broken because recruiters got no time and skill in parsing resumes / profiles. AI will make it easier for us to bypass recruiters or get the same result as now. At least, it will reduce the number of useless recruiters at the least.
Thanks for this video - I love the way you take us on the inside track! I've had a question for years about putting specific percentages for years - if I say I increased profit by 25% ... how do I get that number? I imagine it's a bad idea to pull it out of the air, and people who work in sales, for example, have access to that kind of information - but what if I'm looking for a management position, and one of the things I did was develop/implement a system that increased productivity - the increase was obvious - but is it quantifiable?
Linkedin is connected to deviant freemasons and the mafia. I would never approach them for anything. They are ballsy, stupid and have no consideration for others. Money is their only god.
All tech interviews ask crazy coding questions. Already ai is available
SUUUUUUUUUperb!!
Farah: How's your new year going? Me: Hole in my windshield...So yeah.
That's a different kind of performance 😧😁
Recruiter: “Make a great impression.” Candidate: “Is this an acting role? If so I want to be the main protagonist.”
I'm considering working with you! I got laid off from my job in November, and it seemed like a dead-end job where I didn't do much. My resume and LinkedIn really need to be revamped. Also, my interview skills need to be improved in both the behavioral and technical aspects. I really want a Data Scientist or Data Analyst role, but I am open to other related roles. Although you might be only able to help with improving my profile, I wonder if you can point me in the right direction in finding a coach that can help me with that too. While FAANG-like companies are amazing, I am open to whatever company will satisfy me. I would like to fulfill my dreams while being reasonable at the same time.
The whole process is ridiculous. What happened to on the job training, investing in people. People aren’t puzzle pieces. People are adjustable, they learn, they grow, they change. Half the time, I’m more familiar with needed skills and the culture of the field than the recruiter.
I'm concerned about providing too much location information, photos, and personal details on LinkedIn due to identity theft.
What I took away was LinkedIn essentially becomes a C.V while Resume becomes a focused snapshot that best matches the job description... wish I had known about this a few months ago
So true... Made that mistake loong ago... Nice Jazz Bass on the back by the way ;)

I've heard people say using tools like Resubot can really help streamline the job application process. Might be worth checking out if you're struggling with resumes.
These LinkedIn tips are a game changer. I’m definitely going to start building my network more strategically.
Glad you found the video helpful!
I came across this platform called ResuBot that helps create ATS-friendly resumes. Seems like it could be useful for those looking to optimize their job applications.
Great tips here. I always thought my LinkedIn was good enough, but now I see there's definitely room for improvement.
Your welcome! Go forth and conquer!
This video is so helpful. I didn't realize how many simple mistakes I was making on LinkedIn. Time to update my profile.
Glad you’ve found it helpful! 🙏🏼
It feels like all that is relevant to the US job market only.
This is odd that the software cannot read two column resumes. But I'll make a test and re-apply with a single column resume.
Does an MBA from an Ivy League school help you land a job more quickly?
No, get an MBA if it’ll help you get a job you want. Just getting an MBA for the sake of it is just spending your time & money. With any degree know why you’re getting it and how it’ll help you in the future.
@@Farah_Sharghi Thank you!
wow I really appreciate this advice thanks.
"I travelled all around the world."
Buttback ❤
I remember my first stroke.
So, how does your explanation contradict a commonly spread "biased" opinion: (1) If you ask for too much, you will be rejected in favor of candidates (possibly less qualified) with lower salary expectations. (2) If you ask for too little, the company will greedily "swallow" (hire) you, enjoying a low-paid, qualified professional on its staff?
I have an in-depth long form video all about salary & comp
For those getting upset on how this lady is demanding a 'Perfect' candidate as if HR wants to marry the candidate, I think, all she is doing is helping us all the inside real stuff which goes on to getting hired for a position. We can either choose to live in an ideal utopian world, or be ready to take advantage of information and put efforts to get best out of the situation for us.
I would even take a shitty in my situation, been applying for ages, ghosted after 1st or 2nd interview 😢
Watch my video on Tell Me About yourself. You’re likely giving too generic of answers that don’t have specific details of your accomplishments and/or your answers are unrelated to the job requirements. Make these shifts & it should help
😮 You're taking the channel a bit too seriously...😄 USP: Content creator/Stunt woman 🤔
🤣 I think you’re right lol!
Yes, I have been known to vent at work, then sometimes it will be awkward the next time I see that person. Keeping it professional is best!!
Gosh, was on the other side. The recruiter had 0 clue about the team and the missing "skills", supplied us with 3 candidates and we had to hire someone, lol. So, I hear here lot of mistificaton of the recruiters - they are not that special guys at all, they do not have the claimed insides and many times do not understand the role they are recruiting for. Hence, they many times throw out the right candidates and bring poor matches to the hiring managers.
That could be said of anyone's profession & you're right, not every recruiter is great at their job. So sometimes folks need to try a multi-prong approach to applying to jobs, for example, getting referrals so the referrer can vouch for them and explain to the recruiter and/or HM why they're a great fit
Google ads uses the media planner I built out as a proto UXR in the Venice "LAX" (Bin-5 to be exact) office as a contractor. To be perm, I had to do an 8 week process as if I was a nobody.
Workday = trash. MANY MANY MANY firms use a subdomain and require you to create NEW ACCOUNTS... EACH TIME.
What I don’t like the most about Workday is that it’s clunky and you have to make an account. Like what’s the point of making an account & holding onto passwords when that person is applying for a job? That’s just dumb development of software
@@Farah_Sharghi it gets better when we get "this email address is already registered" but you can't use it, and need to reset your password to re-upload to a different submission, probably losing your previous application
@@TimHunold ITS THE WORST! I've had to use Workday as an ATS and its horrible. You know the reason why companies use it is because it's free if they use it as their HRIS system. I know this bc when I worked at The Times we met with the team and that what Workday said to us. They have a free & paid version & we were using the free one. It was so bad and my hiring managers refused to use it so I built out a tracking system using Airtable and had to MANUALLY add candidates I wanted to present to hiring managers. Not the ones that did make it through, just to present. Every. One. By. Hand. Including typing in all of their details. Awful
