Ex-Google RECRUITER EXPLAINS: This Mistake DESTROYS Your Resume
3:53 Farah's long-winded rambling answer. Yawn.
That’s the point glad you found it
3:22 Again, question about right fit. What about reasonable asks? E.G. when a job's description looks more like a 10 year old's Christmas Wishlist Asking for 10+ years of experience multiple competing technology stacks. E.G. 10 years of .Net and 10 years of Java and 10 years of python and 10 years of PHP for the pay of someone with 10 years of experience? Is there even a right fit in such a position? In these scenarios, should no one apply? Because one guy who does meet the qualifications can get paid massively more money elsewhere.
3:22 Right fit eh? Who would you say is the right fit when a job is asking for 10 years of experience with a technology that is only 8 years old? Asking because I have actually seen this.
Hey I get it I’ve been coding since I was 11 (basic) and have a bachelors degree in CS. Do those job posting happen, yes. Are they common, no. Should you apply to them, obviously not because no self respecting hiring manager would have allowed that post to happen. The job market is tough and unfair, I get it. That’s why Ive been making content for over 4 years. So show what actually goes on behind the scenes and what will move you forward in the process of getting a new job
Hey, Farah. Question - many ATS systems ingest your resume and then create their own version of your experiences. Do recruiters ever look at the ATS version of your experiences? Thanks!!!
Recruiters don’t rely on parsed data as much as you think we do. We go straight to the resume because we know how unreliable data extraction can be. Now, I’ve used ATS systems to source candidates that are in the entire database and that’s when parsed data comes in handy but even if I pull up a profile I’m still looking at the resume
hmmm...this video sounds like a trick video .... fishy
Neurodiverse and terrible with "rizz" or "networking" etc. Not made for typical boomer *morality* either, so I have to engage with way way too much FAKERY and since faking is see-through... :( So I've been stuck at fresh college grad, only unpaid intern level for 15+ years :( Fifteen... effing...years. My life is over and I am doomed/cooked because of this... I have went through every well regurgitated resume trick/tip etc. And I will bomb anything "social" including memorizing behavioral/interview questions etc. WITHOUT a way to bring written notes and such with me to reply... and I don't know why that is forbidden or verboten to be honest... it seems utterly discriminatory and nepotistic to begin with... @Farah_Sharghi
What you fail to mention is that the single most important thing is to know someone at the company lol.
Is it ok to read answers to “tell me about yourself” question ?
17:42 Dinner reservations analogy: make your resume the exact spectacular dish the hiring manager/recruiter asked for. The JD is the menu. Sell the sizzle rather than the plate and silverware.
Glad you like my analogy! 😊
I applied for a Junior post. They called me Senior? How should I respond?!!
You say thank you and you move forward in the hiring process ☺️
Most useless people in the company .. HR. Try always to avoid them and build your network!
Let clarify. Recruiting is a function of HR, and at larger companies recruiters are their own function. Recruiters hire, HR maintains.
Love this. Just fyi you have a typo on vacation* in one of the slides.
You can't use fancy resumes with images, etc. if you want to get by the ATS systems. I've learned that the hard way. Ironic that AI increases creativity with Midjourney, etc. and then kills it when applying for jobs. 😆
I talk about this in other videos, there’s no getting past ATS systems. They’re digital filing cabinets and no there are not auto filters. People who say that ATS are preventing you from getting a job are using predatory practices to either get views or to sell you things. I’ve built two and used 7 when I was actively recruiting.
@Farah_Sharghi this was my observation. I get calls when I email a company directly, rarely is this an option, and virtually zero responses using automated system. I've used ChatGPT to make my resume ATS compliant, so hopefully, it helps. TedAI podcast has good episode on AI in HR, included in one episode is how an a AI when fed company resumes of most successful employees started filtering resumes from candidates giving the most weight to people named Thomas. Unfortunately, too many H4 personnel are putting too much faith in AI hiring tools. It's a cluster ef, especially for technical hires.
If a company comes back months later with another role they think might be a fit, it's too late. I need a job now, not months from now. They can take their job and stick it up their ass.
I am absorbing your content like a sponge - thank you for distilling the information so clearly and comprehensively! However, I have a hard time relating to the "quantifying" requirement (e.g. the Google XYZ formula). I work in the international public sector (regulatory) and I find that it is very hard to find meaningful metrics. Do you have any experience with/insights on that? Thanks!
Great advice, Farah!
Amazing content. A little bit hard to follow cause you just look too cute with those expressions.
Can a guy without a formal college degree get hired in google?
Everyone says to put real number achivements on a resume (increase sales by 6%... etc.) when so many jobs silo you into not being able to do anything really important beyond the narrow scope of your job. I've spent so much time trying to expand my job responsibilities, but I'm always fenced in to my job where I'm a top performer, but there just isn't much exciting to talk about there. I am getting many new certifications, but that doesn't give me these kind of specific achievements to list on my resume. It seems like an impossible jump to make, and I don't have time to mess around with this. I need to be making like double what I used to make, and I need to make it a year ago.
Google is racist to White males. This recruiter encapsulates why corporate America functions as badly as it does.
Hey Farah! Great video, I shared it with some of my grad class as they're currently looking for jobs. Question, what background check processes do FAANG companies usually go through? My friend made up 2 internship experiences for a Software Developer role at a FAANG company, but he ended up getting the job anyways. How could this be? I though FAANG companies used a 3rd party service such as HireRight, or even TheWorkNumber to verify if the candidate worked where they said they worked, and the duration of their employment. Do they not check extensively? I'd appreciate this information!
You can do your own background check on yourself to see what comes up ☺️ they’re all pretty much the same
@ thank you so much for the response! How so if you don’t mind me asking? Thank you again and keep up the amazing and helpful content!
Ok, where I could find the tool to make a right resumee like she learned?
It’s called working for 25 years (software engineer, stock broker & investment advisor, recruiter), and working as a private wealth manager & recruiter in Silicon Valley. Experience > Google Search. Which hilariously is what a lot of folks use when they become job search & career coaches when they have no experience in corporate or on either side of the hiring table 😊
It's truly Awesome. Keep rocking mam.....
you are Drama 😂miss
😏
what every happened to a firm handshake?
This is the best and most informative video i've ever seen. THANKS A LOT
thank you
Linkedin is corporate garbage
Can you help me me please if so send me your phone number Sent
Loved the video,; concise, informative, well-paced and appealing ❤👍🙂
I’m confused. These are like, obvious for those wanting to get a mall security job. I expected something actually useful from “Google uber all the things better” yet nothing better than any other job.
