Statistics vs Machine Learning

For More Details visit at : www.mlminds.com/ Stats and ML folks use different terminologies for the same things. SAS Institute claims that they hardly have anything in common. But well both deal with data so in a broad sense they do overlap with respect to various ideas. But there are clear differences in terms of their origins, role, stress on rigour of results, stress on input data properties...

    Logistic Regression is just that, a regression method. Its predicted value is interval type - the probability of being the 1 case, which can take on any value over the interval [0,1]. It is, in fact, the mean 0/1 value that you expect for a given x. Logistic Classification is the classification method that uses the predicted probability from Logistic Regression and a cutoff - often, but not always 0.5 - to predict the class of a new data point. There are plenty of times where you are not interested in predicting the class of a particular new data point, but rather need to know the expected payoff overall. For example, if you have 100 customers with a particular x value and you estimate the probability of someone with that x buying your product to be 0.6, then you don't want to just classify all 100 as 1's (buyers). That would make you think that you'll make far more money than you likely will. Instead, you would want to know that, on average, 60 of them will be buyers and 40 will not (100 Bernoulli trials with p = 0.6.) If your margin is $20, then you expect to make $1,200, not $2,000.

    You tried to distinguish between two stage object detectors like R-CNN and single stage object detectors like YOLO at 9:50 saying the earlier is a machine learning technique and later one is of deep learning. But both of them involve incorporating CNNs for the task of recognition. Thus both are deep learning techniques indeed.

Such concepts are better explained via youtube channels like statquest. sorry to say, but what a terrible way of explaining stuff. Seems like you are studying yourself from the e-document.

    Hello, I am from India and i am currently in class 12th. Now i have this very big doubt on weather i should take B.Tec in CSE or AI. I want to persue my career in AI and i will doing till PhD. What my parents thinks that i should take CSE for B.Tec, coz if i don't like AI then i would not be left with more options, and what my side is, that i just love AI, like i literally love it. So nowaday there are some colleges which offer a B.Tec course in AI. So i have compared the curriculums of Both AI and CSE and what i found is if yoh are clear that you want to do AI then definitely you should take AI in B.Tec. So i have this confusion of what to do in my B.Tec, can you please help me through this. It would be really a great help to me. My only consern is that if i take CSE then the topics like ML, AI, digital fabrication, AI and Humanity, DBMS, Computer networks, robotics, etc. I will miss this all as strong base, as direct in master i will be having less time, if i opt for AI then i have a preety good amount of time, and other side it's a wide spectrum open to me if i take CSE, so this is what my prospective is so what should i choose?

      Its great that you already know what you want to do in life even before joining engg. But as a mechanical engineer from NIT Warangal with some knowledge, (currently doing some data analytics courses ) I support your parent's view. I dont know how much u know about AI. But for many beginners its just a fancy term. BTech is a place which transform you completely. So ur opinion might change in future as ur parents said. I advise you to join CSE and you have 4 full years to learn subs u missed on your own. There are 100s of courses in udemy, coursera and youtube where you can learn subs of AI which u miss in CSE. But for AI engineer, programming is definitely added adv which u will do in depth if you take CSE. I'm just a beginner of data science course and even I can understand basics of ML AI on my own which is not the case with core programming which u learn in CSE. Research well before taking decision. I'm just a amatuer and gave my opinion with limited knowledge I have.

    In Spatially Separable kernel I don't understand how the actual number of multiplications are reduced. Lets say we have a 3x3 kernel and a 3x3 input. The first vector will perform convolution with the 3 rows of the input, right? 1 convolution involves 3 multiplication and 3 convolutions will require 3x3 = 9 multiplications. I feel that the reduction will happen only if there were matrix multiplication taking place. But in convolutions we are doing element-wise multiplication and hence we can't see reduction in cost, unless you are taking into account things like parallelization or broadcasting.

    • @saiyeswanth2157
      @saiyeswanth2157 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      perhaps look at it this way, say the final output of a convolution operation has Z datapoints, and k is kernel size, then for each of Z points, we require k*k multiplications and additions, so total number of operations is Z*k*k, but in separable convolutions, for convolution with first 1d filter, we get Z*n multiplications and additions, and for second we get another Z*n multiplication and additions .. so total number of operations will be 2*Z*n <<< Z*n*n for large n
