CONTAINS FLASHING LIGHTS
Same aircraft. Same day. Same route, just backwards. Flying EI-IHW for the second time in a day home on FR9814 from Barcelona to Stansted. With a departure time of 19.15, I was praying it would stay light for at least our takeoff but unfortunately daylight was not on my side, and the sun set at around 18.30. Boarding right on time at around 19.00, and the Captain introduced herself, which is already an improvement from earlier that morning, and because the aircraft was only roughly 50% full, the cabin crew moved a couple of passengers around for distribution purposes, meaning I had half a row to myself!
We pushed back bang on time at 19.15 for the longest taxi out to the Runway I've ever seen, passing some interesting aviaiton on the way out, with the likes of an Emirates A380, a completely plain branded A320, plenty of 737s, and a cargo 757 in the distance. I cut out most of the taxi as is pretty long, boring and dark but We finally made it out to Runway 24L and took off, making a very sharp bank to the left straight after takeoff taking us over the water and some lovely views of the city lit up at night, with a lovely MAX thrust increase at 10:58. Up to our cruising altitude of 38,000ft, which was literally nothingness from the start of the Pyrenees to Final Approach into Stansted, as the thick layer of fog from that morning was still there. I give you another loo review (this time the smaller, rear one) and I skip ahead to the approach into Stansted, which I should say was all very exciting.
Around 30 minutes before landing, the cabin crew tell us that we should turn all electronic devices off as the Captain is going to autoland the aircraft due to the reduced visibility. As the aircraft was basically flying itself, it meant we came smashing into the runway and the breaks slammed on straight away, using the most amount of reverse thrust ever. I wasn't even supposed to film it at all, but it was worth risking it for the exciting video.
This flight beat 2 of my personal records: Harshest landing, and earliest arrival. We arrived 17 minutes early, beating the previous record, also held by Ryanair, of 15 minutes.
