    Would you mind repeating the test with the same amount of jugs (say 15 for both) and take the shot from 20 yards away? It may not produce any different results from what you have found but I do feel 20 yards is a reasonably average distance for shots taken on whitetail.

      Also, your draw length and poundage is impressive. Most of us redneck folks don’t have that kinda strength or wingspan. Would it be to much trouble to repeat the test as stated in my other comment with the bow set on 70lbs and at a 28-29” draw length? You got the wrong idea bud . A 400 grain arrow will blow thru a deer easily even lower than that but my point is time from arrow to target is more important not a lobbed arrow at plus or minus 200 fps that animal will duck that at 20 yards. Lots of people fail to realize alot of loss of peneyration is due to not " properly" tuning their bows which kills penetration more than anything. This crazy heavy arrow thing is for no good lots of misses and wounded animals. Try shooting tac with those arrows lol!!

    • @paulheberling2750
      @paulheberling2750 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bro, that 400 grainer will stop on a deers shoulder, easily. And a quartering to deer is hard to see a lot of the time! I think you could easily wound a lot of deer with arrows that don’t pass thru. You don’t lose deer because of too much penetration. I do agree the jumping the string may be more of an issue. But usually deer go down before they jump and if so, a heavier arrow seems to be better since they drop quicker. Catch my vibes? 😉

    • @brokenarrow6491
      @brokenarrow6491 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@paulheberling2750 That is incorrect. I shot a buck at almost 30 yards with a 380 grain arrow traveling 315 fps with a swhacker 1.75" broadhead and it went through the shoulder bone, through the heart into the opposite shoulder bone and both front shoulders were broken. He plowed on his chest and expired. His legs were flopping loose when loading him in the truck. Shot a doe last year and broke the offside leg bone on exit. I break bone with ease with this set-up. I've been bow hunting 51 years now. I've shot slow bows, fast bows, heavy arrows and light arrows and my current set-up is the best I've used by far for whitetails. I have one pin 0-40 yards and the pin never leaves the deer. I will never go back to a heavy slow arrow. If that's what gives you confidence and that's what you want to shoot you should. Confidence is everything but what you said I don't find to be true. I shoot a tuned bow and that is extremely important for penetration.

    • @it_is_finished
      @it_is_finished หลายเดือนก่อน

      Heavy vs light is like fixed vs mechanical, the argument will never end. For me it’s finding that happy medium. A mid weight arrow (450-650) is ideal. If you take shots 40+, closer to 450 is probably better. If most of your shots are around 20 yards, around 600 gr is an advantage. JMO

    • @Wildarkansan
      @Wildarkansan หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@it_is_finished my thoughts exactly. Split the difference. Unless it's a griz or moose, anything arrow in the 500gr with good foc and a stupid sharp fixed blade broadhead is the way to go. @paulberling2750 has the ranch fairy setup. Which I'm a fan of. Lots of science behind that. If you are an elk guy or western hunter though, 60 yard shots or more may be your best opportunity. Heavier arrows don't lose ke as fast as lighter ones. But slower arrows at that distance are a disadvantages too

  • @mikeftball44
    @mikeftball44 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So I think there is a give and take with arrow weight. You shoot from two feet away and yea i am sure you might hit the deer. I dont need an arrow to go a foot in the ground past the deer at 20 yrds when i get enough with a 450 gr that still passes through. Big difference is my arrow arch and speed leads to less time for a deer to react to the shot and tighter windows I can shoot in. It’s give and take depending on what you hunt. I’d like to see you at 20-40 yrs make the 1700gr arrow fly straight through 10 jugs

    • @paulheberling2750
      @paulheberling2750 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t have enough of these heavy arrows to use to sight in my bow to them. They’re expensive to make so I can’t afford to lose any. Hence I shoot so close. Gotta make sure they have the ability to hit all the jugs. But notice the results when we do between light and heavy arrows 😎

    • @mikeftball44
      @mikeftball44 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My point is you are showing that supper heavy arrows is the way to go. My point is you still get a pass through with the lighter arrow yet you now have the speed to be able to fit it in tighter spots at much more ranges with more forgiveness. Be off by 5 yards with a heavy arrow you miss the deer, be off with that on a light arrow you are off two or three inches. Has to be a balance of speed and weight.

    • @paulheberling2750
      @paulheberling2750 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mikeftball44 well, personally, I’d rather miss the deer than miss my mark and hit three inches above the lungs and wound the deer. It's a great idea, but if you're not weighing out apples to apples, then you're not gonna have an accurate test.The four Millimeter may hit the table may not have hit the table. But when you start adding extra weight to the five millimeter, then you're not getting an accurate representation of what either arrow can do, because one's way lighter than the other two hundred and fifty grains, right I'm pretty sure that the 4 mm would have penetrated just as far as your 5 mm. Yes… but that APA has a 26lb draw weight advantage. When you consider that, it’s not that efficient compared to the Omen.

    Hard to compare with draw weight and draw length difference so large, but I would say the omen the winner by quite a bit. 26# lighter and only about 10fps slower with much higher arrow weight to draw weight ratio

    • @paulheberling2750
      @paulheberling2750 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. it seems to me that the higher powerstroke really is more efficient than higher draw weight when you compare the grains per pound specs.

      @@paulheberling2750 I almost bought an Omen this winter. The thing that scared me off was the low brace height, but that’s where the long power stroke comes from. I got a Darton Prelude instead. I Like it a lot, probably would have enjoyed either bow

    I haven't commented yet but I've watched every one of these videos. Very impressive speeds with the omen considering how much lighter the draw weight is compared to the DG

    So we all know that when we put our releases on, we need to keep it at the same length/tightness for consistency. How are you supposed to do that with this type of mechanism?

    • @paulheberling2750
      @paulheberling2750 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually I had the tension set as far back on my wrist as I could get it. And the length of the jaw was set by an Allen screw. So it was pretty consistent
