How to Zero or Calibrate a Scale
มุมมอง 14K5 ปีที่แล้ว
How to Zero and calibrate your new or used scale. RCBS, LYMAN, DILLON, HORNADY, and others. Important points:: 1. Make sure scale is level 2. Clean/inspect pivot point 3.Set to zero, adjust fine adjustment screw (White plastic on far right back) 4. If you have to add weight to the pan lead is best or something that won't rust or corrode over time. More info available at Redeyereloading com webs...

Just purchased this in great condition.Thank you for the video it was helpful.
I know this is an old video and you might never see this, however I wanted to thank you for the video. I’ve been reloading 30 years, and most of that time I’ve used a 10-10 to measure my loads. Last year I purchased a Redding 10x competition pistol measure (man, is that well worth the $) and recently I noticed I was getting some small, but unusual variations in zeroing the scale. All it needed was a good cleaning (as you suggested) and it’s now back to its reliable self. Thanks again.
nice video.. whats the minimum caliber that you can loading with this press? .17?
Just bought a used Lyman D-5 and was very disappointed when it arrived and seed to be drastically off. Then found your video. Low and behold the pan base was EMPTY! Now I can fix 'er up!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Powder is now $60 a pound. 😢
I got lucky and picked up an 8 lb jug of pull down for cheap. Seems to be very similar load data to tac, which is my go to. Gonna load up some testers this weekend and see for sure.
Great video
How do you know which bushing size you need?
Well wher are the diagrams?
That press is filthy!
Do you know if it is true that wc844 is temp stable and flash suppressed?
Hey redeye do u have an email I can reach out to you I need some help I just started reloading and need help
Yes sir. Redeyereloading@gmail.com
Thanks, I've got some finer points to look into.
If your looking to let go of some of the cal. Heads. I'm your guy.
Man I would love to get my hands on those Sierra 200gr 35 Remington projectiles. Good stuff right there
One day someone will go through my decades of stuff like this while I'm pushing up daisys.
Turn your phone sideways when doing videos for U tube would help your video a lot. Hope that helps.
Lots of kool stuff ❤😊
The 300 Savage is a nice find and I could use some of it.
Nik, the purple sealant is used in the subcal .308/ 30-06 spotter tracer rds used for carl gustav recoilless rifles
Very nice nick. . That a amazing buy out. Love ❤️ when seen the 200gr 358 bullets and 150gr .30 cal
Good to see ya doing well nik
Thank you for showing us how NOT to calibrate a 10-10 scale! Calibrating is done on the poise of the 10-10 by adding or removing material. usually it is fine the way it is. But IF you have to calibrate it, make sure the scale is leveled 100%, knives and pivots are clean. The knives should not have any burrs! Then move the poise in increments of 50gn and write down what you read. Go all the way up to 500gn. If done, you have an idea what your scale really shows and where it begins to show an offset. Usually I move the poise to 300gn and add or remove weight at the back of the poise to get it leveled at 300gn. This will reduce the error significantly and your 10-10 is tuned. Now repeat the steps and check in 50gn increments and enjoy a calibrated 10-10
That’s a load of crap
Any info out there on American Reloading 38 special No1pulldown powder? The container lists a load for 9mm but none for.38 special.
Looks like the plunger is "stuck out" on your seater insert. That can happen from rust... but it doesn't look rusty. Can also happen when the plunger is over extended and the return spring doubles on itself. Easy to fix, just push the plunger back into place with some prod like a small screwdriver or hex wrench. You're seater insert isn't set into place (loose retaining screw on the side). There are instructions online for getting the position set correctly, and it can be locked into that position. Like the eccentrics. Simple. The newer ones have three sliders. Still simple. Loading primers in the tube is a pain in the butt using the presses "tray" as the press will likely be mounted on a bench or at least a board. They make a great stand-alone tray as an accessory (and it comes with the new presses). I really like my Co-Ax primer press. Super simple, primers don't flip about like they do in the newer Lee hand press. My only quibble is that the handle on the Co-Ax will "bounce" if you let go of it, and that will knock a primer out by mistake. Gotta release handle first, take out primed case second. That's just technique I suppose.....
Thanks for sending me here to look at this, Nik. I have one of these in mint condition, with TWO of the steel base units and a full set of the brass rotors. I stil don't know if I will ever sell it or if I will use it. I like the fact that if I had just the right rotor that dropped a perfect load of let's say Blue Dot or Power Pistol, and I was reloading for let's say 44 Rem Mag, and I could have the perfect drop for that round. Then all I would have to do is set down my reloading block with primed cases, and then - rather than running that up UNDER a powder measure - I could just set this DOWN on each case mouth and twist the rotor for a powder charge. It would actually be much faster and almost zero chance of tipping the case over. I checked the drops with a scale those drops are extremely accurate!! I would sell it if I got the right amount, though.
Great video.
Is the lever size 1/2 " or 9/16", new press or old press?
The little silver plunger is supposed to move freely inside the larger black piece. And the plunger should be spring-loaded to pull back when the handle is released. The black piece should be held firmly in place, flush with the face of the tool, by the set screw on the side.
Fix your flag.
After all these years, I never knew that 😊
What about MP540 in 30-06
very informative great video.
Thanks for sharing. Do you know if anybody runs wc860 in a 28 Nosler and if so how does it run?
What is w872? Is it good for 7rum?
WC872 is a powder used in 20 m/ m cannon. I bought several 8 pound jugs years ago from HI Tech ammo located in St Louis, MO. According to the relative burn rate chart, it is listed after IMR 5010 and WC860. I bought my powder with the intent of using it in reduced velocity rifle ammo using cast bullets but haven't had time to work on load development. Being a slow burning powder, I will likely need to use magnum primers for a cleaner burn. Like always, proceed with caution when developing new loads.
Well explained. Thx
Thanks
They came with seaters for large & small primers, plus had another set of jaws for.thicker rims like the .45 autorim. It would sit flat on the bench, if mounted on side of bench gravity wouldn't bring primers in line to go into brass. Dad bought one in '75 or '76. The newer Forster have E-Z Just jaws that move in grooves on face of seating tool.
These are old scales. They haven't been made for decades. The lead shot oxidizes and this changes its weight. I have found that I have to add a little bit of lead shot to re-calibrate. Try taking a piece of lead birdshot and crushing it with pliers. Then use scissors to cut off small pieces to ad to the scale pan hanger to get back to zero. Yes, use check weights to be accurate.
Interested in the 32 wcf mold in still available
Absolutely more casting stuff and some brass 12 gauge if you can find any
Any 223 steel molds please let me know
