The Philippines has alot of beautiful natural beaches, but the infrastructure and public transportation need to improve. So getting around the country without a guide could be quite difficult. Travelling here is not as intuitive as Singapore or Thailnd. In terms of language barrier you won't have a problem because most people in the Philipppines speak English. In terms of food well that varies. Personally I like Filipino food, they have great breakfast meals like tapsilog and tocilog. Try the local cuisines like adobo, sisig, or kare-kare. The Philippines is a country with it's pros and cons, which is the same with every country in the world. The beaches is among the most beautiful in the world, as for the city, well it is what it is.
